We love uncovering the comfort foods that celebrities turn to when they want something quick, nostalgic, and satisfying. From Katie Couric’s peanut butter and bacon sandwich to Paul McCartney’s sugar butty, these three-ingredient wonders remind us that sometimes the simplest snacks are the best. Margot Robbie absolutely loves chippy sandwich.
Now, Margot Robbie has revealed her own favorite, and it’s one we could happily eat every single day. While you might expect an Australian staple like a cheese and tomato toastie, Robbie’s choice leans more Irish than Aussie. Meet the chippy sandwich, a humble yet iconic combination of bread, butter, and potato chips.
What Is a Chippy Sandwich?
A chippy sandwich, also known as a crisp sandwich, is exactly what it sounds like: fresh bread layered with butter and stuffed with crunchy potato chips. The idea may sound simple, but the taste and texture are unmatched, crispy, salty, buttery, and comforting all at once.
Robbie’s version has a distinct Irish twist thanks to her choice of ingredients: Tayto Cheese & Onion crisps and Kerrygold butter. Tayto is an Irish brand famous for inventing the first flavored potato chip back in 1954, and their signature cheese and onion flavor is legendary. Pair that with the richness of Kerrygold butter, and you’ve got a sandwich that’s far greater than the sum of its parts.
Ingredients
- 2 slices of fresh white bread
- Kerrygold butter (or your favorite salted butter)
- 1 bag of Tayto Cheese & Onion crisps (or another cheese-and-onion chip if unavailable)
Instructions
- Prepare the bread: Lay out two slices of fresh bread. Spread a generous amount of Kerrygold butter on one or both slices.
- Add the crisps: Open your bag of Tayto Cheese & Onion crisps and pile them onto one slice of buttered bread. Press down lightly to make them stick.
- Assemble and enjoy: Top with the second slice of bread, gently press together, and slice in half if desired. Enjoy immediately for maximum crunch.
Why Margot Robbie Loves It
While filming A Big Bold Beautiful Journey with Colin Farrell, Robbie revealed she ate one of these sandwiches every single day on set. Farrell even prepared them for her in advance, wrapping them in foil and labeling them with an “M” so they’d be ready before early call times.
It’s proof that comfort food doesn’t have to be complicated. With just three simple ingredients, you can recreate Margot Robbie’s favorite sandwich at home, and enjoy a taste of Ireland while you’re at it.
