If you love bold, savory flavors and are looking for a fun, delicious twist on a classic Japanese dish, Yakitori-Style Chicken and Green Onion Wraps are a must-try. Inspired by the popular yakitori skewers, these wraps bring the sweet and savory glaze of grilled chicken and green onions to a handheld, easy-to-eat meal. Packed with flavor and perfect for lunch, dinner, or a fun appetizer, they’re sure to become a new favorite.
The key to yakitori-style cooking is the savory-sweet marinade, typically made with soy sauce, mirin, and a touch of sugar. This glaze infuses the chicken with a rich umami flavor, while the caramelized edges add a delicious depth. When combined with green onions, which become tender and slightly charred when grilled, you get a perfect balance of smokiness, sweetness, and freshness.
What makes these wraps stand out is how they transform the traditional yakitori skewers into something even more portable and convenient. Instead of threading the chicken and green onions onto skewers, they’re wrapped up in a soft tortilla, creating a flavorful and satisfying handheld meal. The tortilla holds the filling together while adding a subtle warmth and texture that complements the savory filling.
These wraps are versatile and can be customized to suit your taste. You can add extra vegetables, like bell peppers, cucumbers, or even shredded carrots for added crunch and freshness. A drizzle of extra yakitori sauce or a sprinkle of sesame seeds can elevate the dish, adding extra flavor and visual appeal.
Yakitori-Style Chicken and Green Onion Wraps are the perfect blend of tradition and innovation. They bring the familiar flavors of yakitori in a new, easy-to-enjoy format that’s ideal for busy days or casual gatherings. Whether you’re craving something savory, sweet, or simply want to try something different, these wraps are sure to impress with their irresistible combination of flavors.

Just okay. The chicken was a bit dry, maybe I cooked it too long?
That can definitely happen! Make sure to keep an eye on the chicken while grilling. Next time, try pulling it off the heat a little earlier.
This recipe is AMAZING! The chicken turns out so juicy and flavorful. My family devoured it!
Quick and easy! Perfect for a weeknight dinner, my kids really liked it.
This is awesome! I love Yakitori! The marinade is so tasty!
Looks good but I think Yakitori should be grilled on actual skewers, not wrapped. Just saying!
I totally agree! The marinade makes all the difference. What’s your favorite part of the recipe?
This recipe is amazing! The marinade is so flavorful, my family loved it!
I totally agree! The marinade really takes it to another level. I’ve made it twice already!
Really? I found it a bit bland. Maybe I should’ve added more spices or something.
This recipe is amazing! The flavors are spot on, and it’s super easy to make. My family loved it! 🍽️
I tried this but used honey instead of sugar and it was way too sweet. Maybe adjust that for next time?
Thanks for sharing! I always find honey too sweet in recipes too. I think your idea to adjust sugar is a great tip.
Just okay. Chicken was dry. Maybe I grilled it too long?? Idk.
Why do we need mirin? Can I leave it out? I’m on a budget and can’t find it anywhere.
You can totally leave out the mirin! Just add a little extra sugar to keep it sweet, or maybe try using some apple juice instead? It should work fine!
You need mirin to give it that authentic flavor. If you skip it, it won’t taste the same! Just find another way to affrod it, maybe buy in bulk? It’s worth it.
Quick and easy but wasn’t enough for the whole family. You might need more than just 4 chicken breasts. 🐔
I had no chicken, so used tofu instead, turned out decent!
Tofu is a great substitute! I never thought of that, maybe I’ll try it next time.
Ugh, tofu instead of chicken? That’s totally not the same! Stick to the recipe, please.
Yum! Best wrap ever! Will make again for sure!!!
Not sure about this one. Chicken and green onions? Sounds weird. 🤷♂️
Weird combo? Not really! It’s called yakitori for a reason! Just because you don’t see chicken with green onions at every restaurant doesn’t mean it won’t taste good. Just try it!
I totally get it, but trust me, the marinade makes it delicious! Give it a try. 👍
Too much soy sauce, it was way too salty for our taste. I won’t make this again.
I totally get that! Soy sauce can really overpower if you’re not careful. Maybe try less next time? More sugar can help balance it too! Just a thought.
I don’t have sake. Can I just put more soy sauce? Gonna try it.
Sure, more soy sauce should work! Just make sure to balance the saltiness. Hope it turns out yummy!
Pretty good! But I had to use brunch wraps instead of tortillas, and it still worked out! Thx for sharing!
Brunch wraps? Really? That doesn’t seem right, but if it taste ok, who cares?
Using brunch wraps sounds creative! Glad it worked for you. Gonna try that next time!
My kids are picky eaters, but they gobbled these up! Will make again!
That’s awesome! It’s always great when kids actually like what we cook. What did you serve with it?
I tried this but it was a bit salty for my taste. Maybe less soy sauce next time?
Absolutely delicious! Grilled the chicken just right, and my kids keep asking for more! Definitely a keeper!
So glad your kids loved it! I made it too and my family enjoyed it! Definitely a tasty dish!
Noodles would taste better instead of these wraps. Just saying!
Hmmm, can you use other veggies instead of green onion? I hate those things.
I didn’t have mirin, so I used honey instead. It was still pretty good!
I tried this and it totally fell apart on the grill. The chicken is too soft, or maybe I overcooked it? Not sure if I’ll make it again.
Why do you even need the sake? Just use more soy sauce. 🤷♂️
Yummy! 🍗🔥
Absolutely! This looks super delicious. Can’t wait to try it! 🍽️❤️
Is it really that easy? I don’t know if I trust the chicken cook time. 🤔
Yum! I added some spicy sauce on top and it rocked! Will cook this for friends for sure.
