Mango Sorbet

July 11, 2024

Mango sorbet is the perfect dessert for anyone craving a refreshing, light, and naturally sweet treat. Bursting with the vibrant flavor of ripe mangoes, this frozen dessert is not only simple to make but also a delightful alternative to traditional ice cream. Made with just a few ingredientsripe mangoes, lime juice, and a bit of sugar, mango sorbet offers a smooth and creamy texture without any dairy, making it a fantastic option for vegans or anyone with lactose intolerance.

The beauty of mango sorbet lies in its simplicity. You only need three main ingredients: fresh, perfectly ripe mangoes, a bit of sugar to enhance the natural sweetness, and lime juice to add a zesty tang. If you’re using frozen mangoes, you can skip the ice, which helps prevent the sorbet from becoming too hard or icy. The key to the best mango sorbet is to use the ripest mangoes possible, choose fruit that’s soft and fragrant, ensuring that it will bring out the most flavor.

To prepare the sorbet, start by blending the mango flesh with sugar and lime juice until smooth. For an extra creamy consistency, you can add a small amount of coconut milk or water. This gives the sorbet a rich, velvety texture, balancing the tangy lime with the natural sweetness of the mango. Once blended, the mixture is poured into a shallow pan and frozen until it’s firm enough to scoop.

Unlike traditional ice cream, mango sorbet is lighter and offers a refreshing tropical taste, making it perfect for warm weather. The vibrant orange color adds to its appeal, making it not just delicious but visually enticing as well. It’s also incredibly versatile, serve it in a bowl as a standalone dessert or scoop it into cones for a fun frozen treat. For a creative twist, try topping the sorbet with a sprinkle of fresh mint, coconut flakes, or a drizzle of fruit syrup for added flair.

Mango sorbet is not just a dessert, it’s a palate cleanser, an energizing sweet snack, and a fantastic way to highlight the natural sweetness of mangoes. Whether served after a hearty meal or as a light treat in the middle of the afternoon, it’s sure to satisfy your cravings and cool you down on a hot day. And the best part? It’s incredibly easy to make, requiring minimal ingredients and preparation. Give this tropical sorbet a try and indulge in the delightful flavors of summer year-round.

This sounds easy but “churn 20-30 minutes” depends so much on the machine. Mine took almost 45 minutes, so I nearly panicked.

My kids loved this! Perfect for hot days. We added some mint for garnish, yum!

Sounds delish! Mango and mint is a great idea. I gotta try that! 😋

5 stars but also… I don’t have an ice cream maker. Can I just freeze it and scrape like a granita? Pls answer.

Yes, you can—freeze it and scrape like granita. Just don’t expect the exact same super-smooth texture as churned sorbet. I’d pour it into a shallow container, freeze ~30–45 min, then rake with a fork/scraper, and repeat every 30–45 min until it’s icy and evenly broken up. Then let it freeze a bit longer if you want firmer bites.

Why does it take so long to freeze? I wanted to eat it right away! 😩

  5. 5 stars
Wow! So refreshing and delicious! I used honey instead of sugar, and it was still incredible! 5 stars!

I thought sorbet had eggs? This is weird.

I was skeptical, but it turned out great! Just make sure your mangoes are ripe.

I totally agree! Ripe mangoes make all the difference. This sorbet is a hit during summer!

Simple enough, and I like that it doesn’t use dairy. I’m a little worried about how firm it’ll get after freezing, but 4 hours should be plenty.

Totally get the freezing concern. I’ve made similar fruit sorbets—4 hours usually gets it scoopable, but it can firm up more in a very cold freezer. If it’s too hard, just let it sit 5–10 minutes before serving.

I don’t have an ice cream maker, can I just freeze it? Also, what’s lime juice? 1 star.

Yes, you can just freeze it! But it might not be as creamy without an ice cream maker. You just need to stir it every once in a while while it freezes.

Lime juice is just the juice from limes… but you can leave it out if you don’t have it. Just freeze the mango mix directly if you don’t have a machine, it’ll still taste good!

I was nervous about the sugar syrup, but it dissolved fine. Mine needed a tiny extra splash of lime at the end. Still tasted like summer.

That’s awesome—mine was nervous too, but the syrup totally came together once it simmered. Love that “summer” description 😄

I didn’t have lime juice so I used lemon instead. Still turned out great! Highly recommend!

Mangoes are seasonal, what if I can’t find them? Can I use frozen mango instead?

    1. User avatar ArabianNights says:

      5 stars
Yes, frozen mango should work just fine! Just let it thaw a bit before blending. Enjoy your sorbet!

  13. 5 stars
Made this last night—so bright and fresh! The lime really wakes up the mango. I used a little less sugar and it was still perfect. Definitely a repeat.

  14. 3 stars
Honestly, it was just okay. The mangoes weren’t sweet enough this time, maybe just my luck. 3 stars.

  15. 3 stars
Too sweet for my taste. I think next time I’ll cut the sugar in half.

    1. User avatar carroll.runolfsdottir says:

      4 stars
I hear ya! Sometimes, it’s just too much sweetness. Cutting the sugar sounds like a great plan!

    2. 2 stars
But sugar is what make it sweet! Why bother if u cut the sugar? Just doesn’t sound right to me.

  16. User avatar shakia.hickle63 says:

I was skeptical. Was it really going to taste good? The answer: YES!!

I didn’t think it would be that easy! Gonna try it this weekend, thanks for sharing!

I’m skeptical about sorbet without any dairy, but wow. Texture was smooth after churning and freezing. I used very ripe mangos, so maybe that’s the key.

Isn’t sugar bad for you? I don’t know why people keep putting it in food.

    1. User avatar booker.botsford says:

      3 stars
I think sorbet needs sugar. Otherwise, it would just be frozen mango mush, right?

    2. User avatar ethyl.terry81 says:

      4 stars
Sugar can be bad, but in moderation, it’s okay. The mangoes are naturally sweet too!

  19. 4 stars
I don’t have an ice cream maker. Can I just freeze the mixture? Will it still work?

    1. 4 stars
Yes, you can just freeze it! Just remember to stir it every hour or so. It might not be as smooth, but it’ll still taste great!

    2. 2 stars
I don’t think freezing it will work the same. You need an ice cream maker for it to get that creamy texture. Maybe try making popsicles?

  20. 2 stars
I used frozen mango and it didn’t turn out well. Maybe fresh mango is key?
