Grilled Greek Salmon

May 14, 2024

Few things say summer like the smell of fish sizzling on the grill, and this Grilled Greek Salmon is as bright and satisfying as a sunset over the Aegean. With its simple yet vibrant mix of lemon, olive oil, garlic, and herbs, this dish delivers bold flavor with minimal fuss.

What makes Greek-style salmon stand out is its focus on fresh ingredients. The marinade is classic, extra virgin olive oil, fresh lemon juice, minced garlic, oregano, and a touch of thyme or dill. It’s zesty, earthy, and balanced, enhancing the natural richness of the salmon without overpowering it. Letting the salmon soak up these flavors for even 15–30 minutes before grilling makes all the difference.

Grilling the salmon adds a subtle smokiness and crisp edges while keeping the inside perfectly tender. It’s fast, too, a few minutes on each side is all it takes. You can use a gas grill, charcoal, or even a grill pan if you’re cooking indoors.

Pair this dish with a Greek village salad (think tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, olives, and feta), a scoop of orzo, or grilled vegetables like zucchini and eggplant. A drizzle of tzatziki on the side? Even better. It’s the kind of meal that feels elegant but is easy enough for any night of the week.

Grilled Greek Salmon is more than just a healthy dinner,  it’s a little escape to the Mediterranean. The combination of juicy fish, fragrant herbs, and citrusy brightness is both comforting and refreshing. It’s a favorite for summer cookouts, but honestly, it’s welcome any time of year.

So the next time you’re craving something fresh, light, and satisfying, fire up the grill and let Greece come to you, one bite at a time.

This recipe is amazing! The salmon turned out perfectly. Definitely making it again!

Salmon again? I prefer chicken. But my family loves it. So I give it a good score.

    1. 5 stars
I get it! But salmon is so much healthier than chicken! Your family is lucky to have you whip this up for them.

  3. 3 stars
Didn’t grill well for me—stuck to the grates a little. Next time I’ll oil the grill more or use foil. Flavor was decent though.

Try patting the surface of the fish dry before marinating, too. Also don’t move it for the first couple minutes on the grill—once it releases it’s way easier. Flavor’s decent is right!

    2. User avatar sheron.tromp says:

      4 stars
Yeah, that happens—salmon is so delicate. I’d definitely give the grates a good oiling (and make sure they’re preheated hot). Foil works too, but then you lose some char.

So simple, yet so good! I usually mess up fish, but this was foolproof. Thanks for sharing!

I’m glad to hear it worked for you! Fish can be tricky, but this marinade makes it super easy.

    Yum!!!!

This was super flavorful! The combo of oregano, basil, and lemon really made the salmon taste “Greek-ish” without being overpowering. I’ll definitely make it again.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—oregano + lemon on salmon is such a good move. I like to add a little extra garlic next time for a punch. Great review!

Grilling salmon is easy, but I never add all those herbs. They just confuse the flavor!

I dunno, I feel like 4-5 minutes is too short. Mine was undercooked. Be careful!

  9. 3 stars
Doesn’t seem right. I thought you had to cook salmon longer? I might be wrong but it felt a bit raw to me.

  10. User avatar janell.gibson2009 says:

The directions are straightforward, but mine stuck a bit to the grill. I think I should’ve oiled the grates more. Flavor-wise though it was solid and not fishy at all.

    1. 5 stars
Yep, oiling the grates is huge—especially for salmon. I also pat the fillets a little dry before grilling so the marinade doesn’t make things tacky. Glad it still tasted great!

  11. User avatar rosaria.rutherford says:

I didn’t have dried basil, so I swapped extra oregano. Honestly it was still pretty good—more punchy than I expected.

  12. 2 stars
Why would you grill salmon? I’ve always baked it… but who knows? 🤷‍♂️

    1. 5 stars
Grilling adds a smoky flavor that baking just can’t match! You should definitely give it a try. 😋

    2. 3 stars
      I dunno, I prefer baked too… but maybe it’s worth a shot? 🤔

  13. 4 stars
I loved the lemon in it! Be sure to use fresh herbs if you can, it makes a big difference!

  14. User avatar laurel.damore34 says:

So easy to make! I paired it with rice and it was perfect.

I think grilling salmon ‘about 4-5 minutes per side’ is misleading. Like… medium-high heat can be anything depending on your grill. I burned mine. 🙁

  16. User avatar joseph.corwin46 says:

    Yum!!! 🤤

cooked it too long, now i got a fish brick lol! but the taste was fine.

  18. User avatar Margot Fenring says:

Greek-ish vibes! I added a sprinkle of feta on top and it took it to another level. Would make again.

The ingredient list says 1 lemon sliced but also parsley for garnish… I used the whole lemon and it was a bit too tangy for me. Maybe reduce lemon juice next time.

  20. 1 star
Salmon is too fishy for me. This sauce couldn’t save it. Not my thing.

  21. User avatar Falmer Spellsword says:

    3 stars
I think 4-5 minutes per side is a bit optimistic for thicker fillets. Mine was flaking but not fully cooked, so I had to finish it. Flavor still great.

  22. User avatar shelba.jones73 says:

    3 stars
Mine stuck a little—maybe I should’ve cleaned/grated the grates better. Otherwise seasoning was great. Next time I’ll oil the fish/foils.

  23. User avatar Vroomfondel says:

This is the best salmon recipe I’ve ever tried! So flavorful and easy to make. Definitely a keeper!

  24. User avatar nidia.heller says:

I used lime instead of lemon ’cause thats what I had, it worked out fine. Pretty good!

  25. User avatar columbus.frami says:

I forgot to marinate it and still turned out yum. Just grilled it as is 😄.

    1. User avatar Super Saiyan Blue Goku says:

That’s awesome! Sometimes keeping it simple is the best way. I can’t believe it still turned out so yummy without marinating! I’ll have to try that.

This salmon recipe is a winner! The flavors are amazing, and it was super easy to make. Will definitely make it again!

I found it too bland. Maybe I did something wrong? I added hot sauce but it still didn’t work for me.

    2. User avatar myron.cronin81 says:

      5 stars
I’m glad you liked it! This recipe is definitely a keeper. Did you have any sides with it?

  27. User avatar morton.nienow says:

    3 stars
4-5 minutes per side feels short for thicker fillets. I had to add time; next time I’ll go by temperature instead of minutes.

  28. User avatar cassandra.schultz96 says:

    4 stars
This recipe looks fancy but isn’t that hard. My husband loved it, so thank you!

  29. User avatar melvin.oconnell says:

    3 stars
5 minutes per side turned into 7 on my grill (hotter than I expected). Still good though—just more well-done than planned.

    1. 5 stars
Ahh that happens—grills can run hotter than the thermometer, for sure. Glad it still turned out tasty though! Next time I’d start checking around 4 minutes per side and pull it the moment it flakes.

  30. 3 stars
Isn’t salmon too oily? I don’t get why everyone loves it so much. I tried this and it was just okay for me.

    1. User avatar nelson.sanford says:

      4 stars
I can see why you feel that way! Salmon can definitely be oily, but I think it’s all about the preparation. Maybe try it with less oil next time? You might like it better!

  31. User avatar porfirio.flatley1951 says:

    5 stars
5 stars for how easy it is. Also my kids ate it (rare)! I’ll try adding a pinch of chili flakes next time.

  32. 5 stars
Simple and delish! Used fresh herbs instead. Makes a big difference!

Made this tonight—so bright and herby. The 4–5 minutes per side was perfect on my grill. Will definitely do again.

  37. User avatar alex.bayer says:

This recipe is amazing! I made it for dinner last night and the salmon turned out so flaky and flavorful.

  38. User avatar Mystic Gohan says:

So easy. I followed it and everything came out great. 10/10 would grill salmon again.

  39. User avatar shane.mueller says:

“Medium-high” grill is too subjective. I almost overcooked mine. Still good, just not the best texture.

  40. User avatar dwight.osinski88 says:

Pretty solid combo of flavors. I added a pinch of red pepper flakes and it kicked it up. Salmon stayed juicy too.
