Greek Lemon Chicken and Potatoes is a comforting, flavorful dish that captures the essence of Mediterranean home cooking. It’s a simple, one-pan meal that combines tender, juicy chicken with crispy, golden potatoes, infused with lemon, garlic, oregano, and olive oil for a bold, zesty flavor.
The key to this dish is its marinade. Fresh lemon juice, olive oil, minced garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper come together to create a tangy and aromatic blend that tenderizes the chicken while flavoring the potatoes. The chicken is typically bone-in and skin-on, which helps retain moisture and develop a beautifully crispy skin as it roasts in the oven.
The potatoes are cut into wedges or chunks and roasted alongside the chicken in the same pan. As the dish bakes, the potatoes absorb the flavorful juices from the chicken and lemon-garlic marinade, resulting in a savory, caramelized finish. Some versions also include a touch of chicken broth or white wine in the pan to add depth and keep everything moist.
Greek Lemon Chicken and Potatoes is best served straight from the oven, garnished with fresh herbs like parsley or dill and a sprinkle of crumbled feta for added richness. Pair it with a Greek salad, warm pita bread, or a side of tzatziki for a complete meal.
Whether you’re serving a casual family dinner or entertaining guests, this dish offers comfort, flavor, and simplicity in every bite. It’s a perfect way to bring the sunny flavors of Greece into your kitchen any time of year.

I’m not sure about all that lemon juice. It sound too acidic. Is there a substitute?
Yum! Chickens and potatoes came out spot on. Excellent!
I think 400°F is too low? At least for my setup. Also, I used chicken thighs instead of leg quarters and it didn’t taste as “Greek” as I expected—needs more oregano maybe.
Super easy to make! I just threw everything in there and it turned out great! 👌
This recipe is amazing! The chicken was juicy and had a great flavor. Will definitely make again!
This was amazing! The chicken was so juicy and the potatoes were perfect. Will make again!
meh. Didn’t wow me.
Not bad, but mine came out a bit bland. I doubled the salt by accident on one batch and it was better, so maybe my lemons were less juicy? I dunno.
Maybe try zesting too? I always add lemon zest and a tiny bit more garlic. If you doubled salt and it was better then yeah, your lemons probably weren’t as punchy. Mine came out bland once when I only used bottled lemon juice.
Ugh, that sounds frustrating. I’ve found lemon juice varies a LOT—if your lemons were smaller/drier, the whole dish can taste muted. Also, this recipe’s salt is pretty modest for 4 legs + potatoes; doubling salt (carefully!) usually helps more than people expect.
I followed the recipe but my chicken came out dry. What did I do wrong? 🤔
Is there a way to make this quicker? I’m not good at waiting an hour!
You could try cutting the chicken and potatoes smaller. They might cook faster that way!
Easiest recipe ever! I threw everything in and it turned out great. The only change I made was adding a bit of rosemary. So good!
Seems too complicated for me. Can’t I just throw the chicken into the pot and let it cook? 🤔
My marinade looked a little thin (like more liquid than paste), but it still worked. I think brushing the chicken halfway might make it even better, though.
Made this for dinner with my mom and it was a hit! We added some feta on top, yumm!
Delicious! I added some rosemary and it turned out fantastic. Highly recommend! 👍
Did you know you can also use sweet potatoes for this? A bit different but yum!
Not bad but a bit too lemony for my taste. I think half the lemon juice would suffice.
I love lemon! But I guess some people don’t like it so strong. Maybe just add less next time!
so easy to make and delicious! even my picky kids loved it!!
Honestly, I thought the chicken was overcooked. Maybe check it sooner? My potatoes got all mushy too. 😕
Quick and easy recipe! Loved it!!! Great for weeknight dinner.
Absolutely delicious! The chicken was so juicy, and the potatoes were crispy! I’ll definitely make this again. 🍋🐔
Best chicken ever!!!!
I totally agree! This chicken is amazing! I made it last night and my family loved it. Definitely a keeper! 🍗❤️
This was delish! My family loved it. I added some extra lemon juice because I like it tangy.
It turned out okay but I thought the chicken was a bit dry. Maybe I cooked it too long? 🤔
This recipe is a winner! The chicken was so juicy and the potatoes were perfect! Thank you!
I didn’t have olive oil, so I used butter. It was a disaster! 😬
I followed the recipe but the chicken was a bit dry. Maybe I cooked it too long?
Made this for a potluck, everyone raved about it! Best recipe ever! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Lemon chicken? More like lemon disaster! My kids hated it and I ended up ordering pizza. Never again.
Sorry to hear it didn’t work out! My family loves it, the lemon gives a nice zing. Maybe give it another shot with less lemon?
I love Greek food! This is a great recipe, but I’d add some feta on top for extra flavor.
Oregano? Is that really necessary? I just don’t like it, might try without.
Chicken was undercooked. Not sure if I did something wrong, but won’t try again.
Sounds like you might not have cooked it long enough. The chicken should be fully cooked at 1 hour. Try checking that the internal temperature reaches 165°F next time!
Too much lemon for my taste. Maybe just one lemon next time? Not sure I’d make it again. 😕
not bad, but I added too much cayenne pepper. spicy wooooo!
Too much lemon for my liking. I think I’ll cut down on that next time.
It was okay… but can I substitute regular potatoes for sweet potatoes? Asking for a friend.
I think the recipe is missing something… maybe some herbs? It was just kinda bland for me.
Nah, I think it’s fine as is. Chicken and potatoes are supposed to be simple, not overdone! Just add some hot sauce if you want flavor.
I agree! A sprinkle of fresh herbs would elevate this dish so much. Maybe some parsley or thyme would do the trick!
This recipe was okay, but I think it needs more seasoning. It felt bland to me. Maybe a little more salt?
Not sure why the author said cayenne pepper, I don’t think it belongs in this recipe. Just use regular spices, people!!
Super easy! Made this for my family and they loved it. Just like my grandma used to make.
Chicken and potatoes? Yawn. Tried it but it’s not for me. Maybe my taste is just diffent.
This is basically just roasted chicken, right? Not even Greek really. Whatever, still good.
The lemon flavor was strong—in a good way—but I might add a touch of honey or extra oil next time to balance it. Still tasty and not dry.
Okay, but why do all the ingredients need to be mixed together? I just kinda threw the stuff into the pan. It still turned out okay tho. 😂
Mixing the ingredients helps the flavors blend better! But hey, if it turned out okay, who am I to judge? 😂
But isn’t that a bit risky? What if it didn’t taste good? I usually follow the recipe to the letter!
Chicken good but the potatoes took too long to cook! Next time I will pre-cook them!
Yum! I added some rosemary because I’m fancy like that. It was delicious!
I tried it, but my potatoes were mushy. Can someone tell me what I did wrong?
This was a hit at dinner last night! The chicken was so juicy and flavorful. Will make again!
So glad to hear it! This dish really makes the flavors pop! 🍋🍗
Was it really that good? I tried a different recipe once and it turned out dry. Maybe I’ll give this one a shot.
Wow, my family devoured this! Even my picky son loved it. Thanks for sharing!
The recipe sounds good, but my oven takes forever to cook. Might try slower baking next time.
OMG, this is like the best thing ever!! My whole family loved it!
I don’t get why everyone loves this recipe so much. The flavors were too strong for my taste.
I was skeptical about just baking everything together, but wow. The chicken stayed juicy and the oregano + paprika combo is legit. Easy weeknight win.
Same! I usually worry chicken gets dry when it’s all mixed together, but this sounds like the perfect balance. The lemon + garlic situation alone has me convinced 😄
I tried making this but the chicken didn’t cook through. I think I didn’t bake it long enough. Next time I’ll follow the timing better.
I forgot to add the cayenne and it was so bland! I won’t be making this again unless I fix my mistake.
I didn’t have paprika or cayenne, so I left them out. It turned out fine but felt like something was missing.
Yummy! But is paprika really necessary? Can we just skip that one? Chef skills not great!
Just 1 hour in the oven? Seems too short… my chicken take longer usually! 🤔
chicken tasted ok but my potatoes burnt!!! I think I baked too long. 🙁
Sorry about the potatoes! Everyone burns something once in a while. Maybe try checking them a bit earlier next time?
I don’t get why this has such high ratings. Mine turned out undercooked, and the potatoes were mushy. Maybe I did something wrong?
Leemon chicken? More like yummm chicken! Loved it! I’m now a kitchen god.
Simple and delicious! Perfect for a weeknight dinner. Will make again for sure!
I was skeptical about the cayenne, but it added a nice kick! My family loved it.
it was alright, but not what I expected from a greek recipe. kinda bland tbh.
Delicious! I added some feta cheese on top before serving, and it was a nice twist. This recipe is a keeper!
Made this tonight—so bright and flavorful. The potatoes got properly crispy, and the lemon-garlic sauce smelled amazing while baking. Will definitely cook again.
I tried this but my potatoes were still kinda soft after an hour… maybe my wedges were too big? Also I think I used too much garlic? It was good though, just not crispy.
Totally agree—this combo is such a win. The lemon-garlic smell is unreal and the potatoes get that perfect crisp. 😋
Yum! Who knew lemon could make chicken taste so good? I added some thyme too! Highly recommend.
Lemon on chicken? Sounds weird. Are you sure it was good? 🤔
I totally agree! Lemon really elevates the flavor. Great idea adding thyme!
The cooking time was off. My chicken was still pink after an hour. I had to cook it longer. Not thrilled with this.
So easy and so good! I love how the chicken came out crispy. Yum!
This was absolutely delicious! The flavors were perfect, and the chicken was so tender. Definitely a keeper!
Wow!! This dish is soooo good, I could eat it every day! 😍
I don’t like garlic, so I skipped it. Still tasted good to me! Just saying for others.
Easy and tasty! Didn’t have cayenne pepper so I used chili powder – still turned out great.
This recipe is amazing! The flavors are so bright and delicious. My family loved it!
I don’t have cayenne pepper, can I just use more paprika? 🤔
What is cayenne pepper? Is that like a spicy version? I used black pepper instead and it turn out okay.
Spicy? I thought it was like a fancy version of black pepper, but just using black was good enough for me! Less fuss.
Cayenne pepper is definitely spicier than black pepper! It adds a kick you might enjoy if you try it next time. Glad it turned out okay for you!
Yummy! But I think cayenne pepper is too spicy for my taste. Maybe use less for moderate heat?
Tried this but had no lemon, used lime instead. Taste was okay. Still edible tho.
Yummy!
This was super tasty! The lemon really kicks it up a notch. Definitely making again!
Why not just fry the chicken? This sounds too complicated for a simple meal. Who has time for all these spices?
This was an absolute hit at my dinner party! The flavors were so vibrant and the chicken was juicy. Will definitely make this again!
Why do I need to use lemon juice? Isn’t there a lemon in the recipe? Seems kinda redundant.
Lemon juice is used for its acidity, which helps tenderize the chicken and adds a burst of flavor that complements the whole dish! Just having a lemon might not be enough for good taste.
Pretty solid. I used a bit less cayenne because my kid hates spice, but otherwise followed it. Next time I might roast 10 more minutes for extra browning.
The timing felt off for my oven. After 1 hour the chicken was almost done but the potatoes weren’t as crispy as I expected, so I added another 20 minutes.
That makes sense—ovens vary a lot. I’ve had the same issue where the chicken hits temp sooner but the potatoes need extra time. Did you toss the wedges halfway through?
Hmm my oven runs hot so 1 hour works for me, but if your potatoes weren’t crispy, maybe cut them bigger/smaller? Also 200°C for 1 hour feels low? I’d try roasting on a wire rack next time so the bottoms brown better.
