Fig and date energy balls are the ultimate no-bake snack that’s both satisfying and nutritious. Packed with natural sweetness from dried figs and dates, along with the richness of nuts and seeds, these little bites provide a perfect balance of energy-boosting ingredients. Whether you need a quick breakfast, a pre-workout snack, or a midday pick-me-up, these energy balls are the perfect option.
The base of this recipe includes dried figs and dates, both of which are naturally sweet and full of fiber. Dates, in particular, are known for their natural sugars, which give you an immediate energy boost without the crash that comes from refined sugar. The figs add a bit of chewy texture and a subtly earthy sweetness that complements the dates beautifully.
To bind everything together, you’ll add a handful of nuts, such as almonds, walnuts, or cashews, which provide healthy fats and a crunchy texture. Seeds like chia, flax, or pumpkin seeds can be mixed in for added nutrients, including omega-3 fatty acids, protein, and fiber. A little bit of coconut flakes or cacao powder can be added for extra flavor, making these energy balls even more delicious.
The best part about making fig and date energy balls is that you don’t need an oven, just a food processor. Simply blend the dried fruit and nuts together until they form a sticky dough. If the mixture is too dry, you can add a bit of water or a spoonful of honey to help everything come together. Once the mixture is ready, roll it into small balls, and refrigerate for at least an hour to allow them to firm up.
These energy balls are great for meal prepping and storing in the fridge for easy access throughout the week. They’re portable, convenient, and full of wholesome ingredients, making them a perfect snack to take on the go. Whether you’re fueling up before a workout, enjoying an afternoon snack, or simply craving something sweet, these fig and date energy balls are a nourishing and satisfying treat.
This recipe is simple to prepare and requires minimal ingredients. By blending figs, dates, and nuts together and shaping them into balls, you can have a batch of these delicious snacks ready in no time. These are dangerously easy. The texture is exactly what I want—sticky and not crumbly. I rolled mine in coconut and it tasted like dessert but without the guilt.
not very filling 😕 makes me hungry again 30 min after eating!!!
These balls aren’t a meal, just snacks! If you’re super hungry after, try having them with a banana or something!
I totally get what you mean! They might not be super filling, but they’re a good energy boost. Maybe pair them with some yogurt?
Dumb question but can I use frozen figs? Don’t wanna go to store.
I don’t know, the texture is weird for me. I prefer my snacks crunchy.
Meh, they’re okay. I thought they would be crunchier. more nuts next time!
I was skeptical about dates + figs + chia, but wow. Great for a quick snack. Next time I’ll probably process a little longer so the texture is smoother.
Same! I didn’t think dates + figs + chia would taste good together, but these are dangerously snackable. I do blend a little longer too—makes them smoother and less “chunky chewy.” Great recipe!
Is the Nutritional Information for one energy ball? Or is it for the entire recipe?
The nutritional information is per serving, representing one energy ball. We’d love to hear about your experience with the recipe—how did it turn out?
I thought these were too sweet. Maybe cut down the honey next time. Not for me.
Not bad, but I found it a bit too sweet for my taste. Maybe less honey next time?
Energy balls, more like rubber balls…not my favorite snack.
Trying this tonight! Hope it turns out as good as it sounds.
Five stars. Easy. No regrets.
These are dangerously good. Sticky, sweet, and not overly complicated—perfect for a quick snack. I used a mix of almonds and walnuts and they held together great after chilling.
Never made energy balls before but it was easy. Just what I needed after a workout!
I followed the steps exactly and they kinda crumbled. Maybe my dates were dry? I ended up pressing them hard and refrigerated longer, which helped.
Yeah, dry dates can totally make them crumble. I’ve noticed if the dates are a little older/hard, you need either more honey or a quick splash of warm water to get that sticky consistency. Refrigerating longer definitely helps too.
My kids ate them so fast I didn’t get to try one 😂 The coconut coating is a win. Will double the batch next time.
Do Not Mix Dates and Figs! Bad combo! Just stick to one, please!
Hmmm, I thought these would be more filling. I ate like 5 balls and still felt hungry. What’s up with that?
I hear you! They can be a bit light, but I guess they’re more of a snack than a meal. Have you thought about adding some protein powder or having them with yogurt?
Great recipe! I skipped the nuts due to allergies and they turned out fine.
The ingredient list is a little chaotic (nuts section says 1 cup but then parentheses with examples). I assumed mixed nuts and it worked, but I wish it was clearer.
They taste like cat food… I’m sorry but I cannot eat this. 1/5
I dunno… the texture was kinda off for me. Maybe I blended them too much? Not sure I’ll try again.
I don’t get why everyone loves these. They taste too sweet for me.
Honestly I think 1 cup figs + 1 cup dates is overkill sweet. Mine were so sticky I could barely roll them, like dough that didn’t want to be balls.
I made them with what I had (walnuts + cashews) and they turned out pretty rich and filling. The chia helps a lot, I think. Would make again.
Nice! Using walnuts + cashews sounds like a great upgrade—chia is such a game changer for texture. Glad they held together for you. 😊
Tried these today—super sticky like the recipe said and they actually hold together. Sweet but not candy-sweet, and the chia adds a nice little texture. Will make again!
Interesting—mine didn’t hold together at first. I might’ve under-blended or my dates were drier. Still tasted good though. Any tips on how long you blended?
Yes!! I had the exact same experience—really sticky once you blend it right. I also love the chia texture. Makes me want to keep a stash in the fridge.
Can I use nut butter instead of real nuts? I got allergies. Plz let me know.
So good! I rolled half in coconut and half in cocoa, and they disappeared fast. 1 hour in the fridge was enough for me—no weird aftertaste.
Love this idea—coconut + cocoa sounds like the perfect combo. Glad 1 hour worked for you! I’ll try that next time.
Meh, not really my thing. Too chewy and I prefer salty snacks.
Pretty simple, but I had to add a tiny splash of water because my food processor wasn’t having it. Still tastes awesome though.
I didn’t have figs so I used prunes. Still good but not the same. Maybe worth a try if you run out!
This is not a recipe. It’s just fruits mashed together! What is the difference?
These turned out super sticky (in a good way). I added a pinch of salt and they taste like dessert but I feel better eating them. The coconut coating is a nice touch.
These are so delicious! I love how easy they are to make. I added a dash of cinnamon too. Definitely making again!
I dunno… the figs were really weird tasting to me.
Nah, I think figs are great! You must’ve got a bad batch or something. They add a nice sweetness.
I get what you mean! Figs can be an acquired taste. Maybe try adding more honey next time?
Can I skip the chia seeds? I don’t have any and really wanna try this. Thanks!
I made these to share but I ended up eating them all by myself! So tasty!
Way too sweet for me. Dates + figs + honey is like sugar overload. I’ll probably cut the honey next time or use less dates.
Made these for my kids and they devoured them! Will make again!
Are these really that good? I thought they would taste weird with the figs and dates. 🤔
That’s awesome! My kids loved them too! I added some chocolate chips for extra sweetness.
This was super easy and fun to make with my kids! Messy but worth it. 4 stars!
Sounds great! I love making messy recipes with my kids too. They just love getting their hands dirty. Can’t wait to try these!
These look great! Do they last long in the fridge? I wanna make a bunch.
The ratio felt perfect—figs + dates make them naturally sweet. I’d add a pinch of salt next time though to make the flavors pop more.
Totally agree about the sweetness—figs + dates really do most of the work. I tried a tiny pinch of salt once and it made the flavors pop way more too!
Hmm I don’t know… I feel like too much salt would ruin the whole “healthy dessert” vibe. I just add a bit more vanilla instead and it tastes fine to me.
Sounds good, but figs? Eww. I’d rather eat something else. No thanks!
I didn’t have figs, so I used prunes instead. Still worked out fine.
Prunes are a great substitute! Good thinking!
Energy balls are always a bit suspicious to me—usually they taste like health food. These actually taste like real dessert though, so props.
Honestly same—I feel like energy balls are usually all “healthy” and no flavor. But these sound like they’d actually hit that dessert craving with figs + dates. I’m in 😄
I found these way too sweet for my taste. Maybe less honey next time? Not sure if I’ll try again.
Yum! Perfect for a quick snack on the go. I made mine with coconut and they were a hit!
Pretty healthy-sounding but I’m skeptical. Dates and figs are still a lot of sugar. They’re tasty, sure, but I wouldn’t call them “healthy” without portion control.
Totally agree—“healthy” is doing a lot of work here. Dates + figs are basically candy if you don’t portion it. I make these but only eat 1-2 and that’s it 😅
Not my thing. Shoulda added more chocolate, lol.
I dunno, I think they taste great as is! Plus, adding chocolate kinda defeats the purpose lol.
More chocolate? But this is supposed to be healthy! Can’t just load it with sugar, you know?
Just made these! Can’t wait to see how they taste after refrigerating.
These energy balls have saved my life! Perfect for on-the-go!
Um, this recipe seems kinda simple. Won’t it be too sticky? I don’t know about this…
5 stars for sure! My kids love these and I feel good about it.
Yum! I rolled it in crushed almonds instead of coconut. So tasty!
Honestly, I think these could use some chocolate chips too. Just saying!
Kinda confusing with all the nuts. Can I just use peanuts? Asking for a friend.
My kids loved them! I added some cocoa powder and they are bomb. Will definitely make again.
The flavor is rich and sweet, but I wish it had a pinch of salt or something. Still, it’s a solid base recipe and the chia adds a nice texture.
Love these energy balls! Perfect for my smoothie bowls, added some protein powder too. YUM!
Fig and date energy ballz? Sounds weird but taste good.
Meh. Just tasted like sweet mush. Not really what I expected.
Honestly, if you wanted somethin’ else, maybe try different nuts? Or add chocolate. That’s how I make ’em better!
I thought they were tasty! Maybe you overcooked them? They should be a bit chewy, not mushy.
Too much honey in these. My husband thought they were too sweet too. But the kids love it!
I love chia seeds but 2 tbsp felt like a lot—mine turned out a bit too crumbly. Next time I’ll reduce it to 1 tbsp and see.
Did I really need to refrigerate for an hour? I ate them right away and they were fine! LOL. Love this recipe!
I forgot the coconut and still they were good. But like, who needs coconut anyway? LOL.
OMG these are the bomb! Made them for a party and they were gone in minutes. 😍
Fig and dates? Gross. Who even eats that? Not for me.
I love figs and dates! They make such a great snack. You should give it a try!
Love the flavors—fig + date is such a good combo. Next time I’ll add a tiny pinch of salt to balance the sweetness, but overall solid recipe.
Huh, a pinch of salt? I usually just add more vanilla or cocoa and call it balanced 😅 but I get what you mean. These look so good though—thanks for the tip!
Totally agree—fig + date really is magic. The honey makes them sweet sweet, so your salt idea sounds perfect. I’ll try that next batch!
Nah, not my thing, guess I like salty snacks. These are too sweet for me.
Sweet? Nah, they just taste like healthy stuff. Stick with your salty chips then! 😄
I get you! They’re really sweet for veggie munchies, but maybe try adding some salt next time?
I made these, but my balls didn’t hold together. What did I do wrong?
Sounds like you may have needed more honey or chia seeds to help it stick.
Maybe you didn’t blend it long enough? Mine hold up well after a good mix.
Yum! Have made this recipe twice now, and it’s a total hit! I added some chocolate chips too.
Made these for a party and everyone loved them! They disappeared fast. Will make again and maybe add some chocolate chips next time!
5 stars! So easy to make. Perfect for a quick snack. Can’t wait to share with my friends!
Boring. I expected more flavor. Vanilla is nice but I feel like it needs cocoa or cinnamon at least. Also mine wouldn’t roll—kinda just mashed.
Mine wouldnt roll either 😅 I think it was because I pulsed too little—felt more mashed like yours. I had to keep blending until it was super sticky, then chill 30-60 min before rolling. Also, I used less honey than it says… maybe that mattered.
I get what you mean—vanilla-only can taste a bit flat. Next time I’d add a pinch of cinnamon or a couple tbsp cocoa powder to the mix. I also like adding a few extra tbsp of chia for a thicker hold.
Not gonna lie, mine were a bit dry and crumbly at first. I think my dates weren’t super soft. After I pulsed longer and pressed harder, they finally stuck together.
I subbed peanut butter for the honey since I was out. Came out great! Just a tad sweet for my taste though.
Ain’t no way these are healthy, they’re still candy, right?
I made these for a hike snack and they held up really well in my bag. Sticky like the recipe says—perfect for rolling.
Nice! I’ve been worried about them turning into a crumbly mess in my bag, so that’s reassuring. Sticky is definitely the way to go for rolling—thanks for sharing!
I tried making these but they just fell apart. Not sure what I did wrong.
These are amazing! I made them for my kids and they gobbled them up. Will definitely make again.
Glad to hear your kids enjoyed them! These are a hit in my house too. 😊
I used what I had—almonds only—and they still held together. Vanilla tasted kinda muted, so next time I’ll bump it. Overall, a win.
Just made them, and they are so good my kids ate them up in no time. Thanks for the recipe!
I’m not a fan of figs, so I replaced them with prunes. They worked just fine! Very good recipe!
Prunes? That’s a neat idea! I’ve never thought of that. Glad you liked it!
I used peanut butter instead of honey because I was out of it. Still worked!
Energy?? More like snacks for squirrels. 😆 But they taste good!
Snacks for squirrels? I think they are more like little balls of joy. Just try them before you judge!
I don’t know what squirrels you are talking about, these are delicious! Perfect for my hikes! 🥳
I dunno, the figs were too sweet for me. I think next time I’ll switch to just dates.
How long do they last in the fridge? I made a big batch!
Mine wouldn’t really bind until I warmed the honey slightly. Also I used walnuts only, still delicious. Not mad at it. 😅
Super easy to make! My kids loved rolling them up into balls. Will definitely keep this recipe!
So glad your kids loved it! My family enjoyed these too. Great recipe!
They look good but can you really call this cooking? It’s just mixing stuff!
I love figs, but I’m allergic to nuts! Anyone have suggestions what to use instead?
You could try using sunflower seeds instead of nuts! They’re great and nut-free.
These are absolutely delicious! Perfect for a quick snack on the go!
I tried these yesterday and they were a hit! Even my kids gobbled them up. Super easy to make too!
I dunno, they seem a bit too sweet with all those figs and honey. What if I use less honey? Anyone tried that?
These are soooo good! I can’t believe how easy they are to make. Thank you for sharing!
I’m glad you enjoyed them! They really are super simple. Perfect for a quick snack!
Too sweet for my taste. Maybe next time I’ll skip the honey.
These are amazing! A great little snack for when I’m on the go. I used peanuts instead of almonds. Will make again!
I never thought of using peanuts! That’s a great idea! I’ll have to try it your way. Thanks for sharing!
But aren’t almonds healthier? Peanuts are cheaper tho, I guess. Wouldn’t mind trying to make em but not sure…
Great recipe! But I didn’t have chia seeds, so I used flax instead and they turned out just fine. My kids can’t get enough!
These were so delicious! I loved making them with my kids. Definitely a keeper!
I followed the recipe to the letter, and they still came out dry? Any ideas on what I did wrong?
I followed it exactly and mine came out a bit dry/crumbly at first. I ended up drizzling a little extra honey and it worked. Still tasty—just watch the moisture.
These are AMAZING! I could eat them every day. Great energy boost!
These are amazing! I rolled mine in cocoa powder and it tastes like dessert. I’ve already hidden them from myself.
