Creamy Avocado and Cucumber Soup

August 8, 2023

Creamy avocado and cucumber soup is the perfect dish for warm days when you want something light, refreshing, and full of flavor. Silky in texture and cool on the palate, it’s a modern take on chilled soup that feels both luxurious and wholesome. With minimal ingredients and zero cooking involved, it’s as easy to make as it is satisfying to eat.

At its core, this soup is a blend of ripe avocados and crisp cucumbers. The avocado brings that signature creaminess, while the cucumber adds a clean, slightly sweet taste that balances everything out. Add a splash of lime juice for brightness, a bit of garlic or shallot for depth, and some yogurt or sour cream for extra tang and richness. The result is a smooth, velvety soup with a delicate green hue that looks as good as it tastes.

What makes this dish so appealing is its versatility. You can dress it up or keep it simple depending on your mood or occasion. Want something more substantial? Add fresh herbs like dill, mint, or cilantro. Prefer a kick of spice? A little jalapeño or a dash of hot sauce will do the trick. It’s easy to tailor the flavor to your liking.

Presentation is another fun part of this dish. Serve it in chilled bowls or small glasses as an appetizer. Garnish with a swirl of yogurt, chopped herbs, a few cucumber ribbons, or even a sprinkle of crushed pistachios for texture. It’s elegant enough for a dinner party, yet simple enough for a casual lunch.

Creamy avocado and cucumber soup isn’t just delicious, it’s also nourishing. Packed with healthy fats, fiber, and antioxidants, it leaves you feeling refreshed rather than weighed down. Best of all, it comes together in under 15 minutes, making it ideal for busy days or last-minute entertaining.

This is one of those recipes that proves simplicity and freshness can go a long way. Cool, creamy, and endlessly customizable, it’s a chilled soup you’ll want to return to all summer long.

I was skeptical at first—avocado in soup? But wow, it was delicious! Will definitely make again.

  2. 2 stars
I followed it exactly and it came out pretty bland. Maybe my avocados weren’t ripe? I also forgot to chill it long enough—could that be why it tasted “meh”?

  3. User avatar Kurtis Pacocha says:

    4 stars
This is a fun twist on soup. I was skeptical about the cayenne, but it adds a nice little kick. Blended silky smooth.

  4. User avatar alonzo.ohara says:

Honestly I don’t get the hype. Avocado soup sounds like baby food. Idk. But I guess the texture is cool? 2/5 from me.

    1. User avatar houston.tillman1973 says:

      4 stars
Totally fair—avocado soup does sound a little… weird at first 😂 But once it’s blended with yogurt + lime, it’s actually pretty refreshing, not like baby food. Texture’s the whole point, I guess!

  5. User avatar andrea.gislason65 says:

    5 stars
SO GOOD! Perfect for a hot day. I could eat this every day. Yummy!

  6. User avatar lelia.lubowitz53 says:

This tasted like a smoothie pretending to be soup (in a good way). I was skeptical about the yogurt, but it works. Would absolutely make again.

    1. User avatar germaine.towne says:

      5 stars
Haha yes!! That description is spot on — creamy like a smoothie but spoonable. I was worried about the yogurt too, but the lime/cayenne keeps it balanced. Definitely saving this for a repeat.

  7. 3 stars
Not bad but I found it bland unless I added more salt than the recipe said. Also my garlic was strong, so I might use less clove next time.

  8. User avatar Super Saiyan Vegeta says:

    5 stars
Super duper creamy! I added a bit more garlic and it was delish! Will make again for sure!

  9. 4 stars
I made it without garlic because I can’t stand the taste. Still pretty good.

  10. 4 stars
Greek yogurt + avocado is brilliant, but I found the garlic a bit strong. I’d recommend half a clove if you’re sensitive to raw garlic.

  11. User avatar guadalupe.heidenreich says:

I’m skeptical about the cayenne in a cucumber soup, but it actually worked. Not spicy-spicy, just a little “kick.” The texture is super smooth.

    1. User avatar loyce.weber says:

      5 stars
Honestly, I was also side-eyeing the cayenne at first 😅 but the “little kick” makes sense with the lime—glad it worked for you. Smooth texture sounds perfect.

  12. User avatar nereida.nicolas73 says:

I didn’t have cilantro, so I used parsley. Still came out well, I think. More salty tho, lol.

    1. User avatar Prostetnic Vogon Kwaltz says:

      4 stars
Using parsley instead of cilantro is a clever workaround! Glad it still worked out for you.

  13. User avatar elwanda.hermann7 says:

    4 stars
I’m not a huge cilantro person, so I swapped it for parsley. Still tasty, just different. Would make again for a quick cold lunch.

  14. User avatar janita.rowe says:

Why would anyone eat cold soup? I’m confused. I guess it’s a fancy thing?

    1. User avatar wellRespected says:

      2 stars
I dunno, sounds weird. Why not just heat it up? Soups gotta be hot, right?

    2. User avatar Jitan Sa'mi says:

      4 stars
Cold soup is actually really refreshing! Especially in hot weather. Give it a try before judging!

  15. User avatar sammy.sporer78 says:

    5 stars
Wow, this soup is so refreshing! Perfect for summer days. I loved the hint of lime!

  16. User avatar Eddie the Computer says:

    5 stars
The cilantro is doing WORK here. I used less cayenne because I’m not trying to suffer, and it was perfect. Chilled leftovers were even better.

  17. User avatar alan.hartmann89 says:

    4 stars
Loved the texture, but I think 1 cup broth is a little much—mine came out thinner than expected. Next time I’ll start with less and blend longer.

  18. User avatar emerson.rogahn says:

    1 star
This is too fancy for me. I just wanted something quick and easy.

  19. User avatar bernie.fay19 says:

    5 stars
Made this last night—so refreshing! The avocado makes it super creamy without any cooking. I added a little extra lime and it really popped.

  20. 4 stars
This is actually really good. I’m no chef but this took like 10 minutes. My blender did not like the garlic clove tho lol.

    1. User avatar jane.stanton2024 says:

      3 stars
I tried this and it was kinda bland for me. Also my blender hates anything too thick—maybe I should use more broth? The cayenne was the only thing that tasted like anything lol. Still, I’ll give it another shot.

    2. User avatar delaine.kuhic92 says:

      5 stars
Haha I love that your blender “did not like the garlic” 😂 Mine usually whirs through it, but I’ve learned adding the garlic first helps. This soup is *way* better than I expected for how fast it is!

  21. 1 star
Nah. I won’t eat cold soup. Soup should be hot or it ain’t real soup.

  22. 5 stars
Yummy! Very creamy, love it! 😋

  23. User avatar eleonor.schneider1963 says:

    1 star
Eww no. This sounds gross. Why would you put yogurt in it!

  24. User avatar tad.swaniawski says:

    5 stars
This soup was soooo good! I can’t believe how simple it was to make.

    1. 5 stars
I’m glad you loved it! It’s super easy and refreshing, perfect for hot days! 🌿

  25. User avatar erich.collier65 says:

    4 stars
I followed it, but I accidentally forgot the cayenne… and honestly it was still good. Next time I’ll use it carefully because spicy isn’t always my thing.

    1. User avatar Mr. Kristofer Fahey says:

      5 stars
Good to hear it still worked! I actually love how adaptable avocado-based soups are—cayenne just adds a little kick, not the whole flavor. Next time add it gradually so you can control the heat.

    2. User avatar ricardo.gutkowski19 says:

      4 stars
Honestly I think cayenne is kinda overkill in a cucumber soup 😅 If you forgot it and it was still good, that means your base is balanced. I’d just do less next time or skip it completely.

  26. User avatar leatrice.mills17 says:

    5 stars
Easiest recipe ever! Loved it! My kids asked for seconds!

  27. User avatar francisco.kling says:

    4 stars
I have no idea what a cilantro is. I just used parsley. Still came out fine tho!

  28. User avatar Mayor Hagen says:

    5 stars
Yum! I added some shrimp on top for protein, and it was a total game changer! Highly recommend!

  29. User avatar darius.fadel77 says:

    5 stars
Surprisingly good. I was worried the avocado would be too heavy, but the cucumber keeps it light. Would totally make again for summer lunches.

  30. 3 stars
Not bad, but I found the garlic a little strong for my taste. I’d probably half the clove or roast it first. The flavor is still nice and bright though.

    1. User avatar jesusita.schroeder says:

      5 stars
Totally get that—garlic can be punchy in a raw blend. Roasting it (or just using 1/2 a clove like you said) would make it much smoother. Glad the rest still hits “bright” though!

  31. User avatar karol.hayes1975 says:

    4 stars
I added a splash more broth because mine came out thicker than expected. Still delicious though—very “spa” vibes.

  32. User avatar Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz says:

    3 stars
This feels kinda fancy for something that’s basically blender guac + soup 😅 Still tasty, but I’m not sure I’d serve it to guests. Needs more salt, in my opinion.

    1. User avatar damaris.gulgowski says:

      4 stars
Totally get it 😄 I’ve made it and it is very much “blender guac + soup” vibes, but I think that’s the charm. If you’re finding it needs more salt, try adding a pinch at a time—also it can depend a lot on how salty your broth is.

  33. 4 stars
I was skeptical at first, but this actually turned out really good! Can’t believe how easy it is.

    1. User avatar liberal.hero says:

      5 stars
I was doubtful too, but this soup is a game changer! So refreshing and easy. Definitely making it again!

  34. User avatar Bernadette Sporer says:

    1 star
Nah, not for me. I prefer my soup hot, this was too cold!

    1. User avatar garland.ondricka says:

      4 stars
I totally get that! Some soups just feel wrong when they’re not steaming. Have you tried heating it up a bit?

    2. User avatar stan.cummerata62 says:

      3 stars
But it’s meant to be cold! It’s refreshing for summer. Maybe you should try other cold soups?

  35. User avatar Eloisa West says:

    4 stars
I messed up and forgot the lime juice, but it was still okay. Would try again.

  36. User avatar Dwarven Centurion says:

    2 stars
I guess avocado soup is a thing now. It’s okay, but I’d rather just eat guac with chips than drink it.

    1. User avatar steve_maga says:

      3 stars
Avocado soup… interesting. I tried something like this once and it tasted kinda like green smoothie. If you’re not blending it long enough it’s not creamy, and mine stayed chunky 😅 But yeah guac with chips is hard to beat.

    2. User avatar emilio.graham97 says:

      5 stars
Honestly I love this—avocado + cucumber is super refreshing, and the yogurt makes it feel lighter than guac. Totally get the “just eat guac” take though 😄

  37. User avatar fredia.robel35 says:

    4 stars
So refreshing for the hot weather! I didn’t have cilantro so I used parsley instead. Still yum!

  38. User avatar normand.zemlak80 says:

    2 stars
Ugh, can’t stand cold soups. Does it have to be chilled? What if I just eat it warm?

  39. User avatar ruthann.ward80 says:

    5 stars
Yum!! I added some tomatoes too and it was delightful. Thx for the recipe!

    1. 2 stars
I don’t get why you’d add tomatoes to soup like this. Isn’t it supposed to be creamy?

    2. User avatar garret.aufderhar1975 says:

      4 stars
Tomatoes? That’s interesting! I never thought of that. How did it change the flavor?

  40. User avatar Rickey Renner says:

    5 stars
This tasted exactly like guacamole soup which is kinda weird but kinda awesome. The texture was perfect though—no chunks.

    1. User avatar Sina Koch says:

      5 stars
Guacamole soup is weirdly the best description 😄 I get what you mean—the avocados + lime make it super spot-on, and blending it smooth definitely nails that texture.

  41. User avatar terese.baumbach39 says:

    5 stars
Love it, love it, love it! The cayenne gives it a kick. Yum!

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree! The cayenne really adds that extra punch. I can’t get enough of this soup! 😋

    2. User avatar Ilban Richese says:

      2 stars
I dunno, cayenne in soup? Seems weird to me. What does it even taste like? 🤔

  42. User avatar boyce.medhurst6 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but my blender didn’t get perfectly smooth—there were little bits of cucumber. Maybe I should’ve chopped smaller.

  43. User avatar hyon.klocko30 says:

    5 stars
So easy to make! I made it for my friends and they loved it too. Thanks for sharing!

  44. User avatar geoWizard says:

    1 star
This was bland. Like, where’s the seasoning? I followed it exactly but it needed way more lime and pepper. I’m not sure what I did wrong.

  45. User avatar benito.huel28 says:

    5 stars
Made this for lunch—so fresh and creamy without being heavy. The lime + cayenne combo is 👌. I blended a little longer for extra smoothness.

  46. 3 stars
Not gonna lie, mine came out too thick. I think my avocados were extra small or my broth was off. Adding more broth fixed it though.

    1. 3 stars
Huh, mine was thin at first, so maybe I did something different. Did you blend the cucumber too long? Also, avocados aren’t usually that small where I live… but adding broth makes sense though.

    2. User avatar Spriggan says:

      5 stars
Totally get it—avocados can vary a *lot* in size and water content. I’ve had the same issue when mine were smaller, and yeah, a splash more broth usually brings it back to that nice creamy-but-sippable texture.

  47. 5 stars
This sounds ridiculously refreshing. I love avocado + cucumber together, and the lime/cilantro combo is exactly my vibe. Going to try it as a light lunch—great for hot days!

    1. User avatar alida.pfeffer says:

      4 stars
I’m skeptical it’ll be “soup” enough with just 1 cup broth… but the creamy avocado base sounds legit. Might add a splash more broth or extra yogurt. Thanks!

    2. User avatar teofila.cummerata2 says:

      5 stars
Yesss—avocado + cucumber + lime is such a winning combo. I can already imagine how silky and cold it’ll be. Definitely trying this for lunch this week!

  48. User avatar timothy.sawayn62 says:

    2 stars
It was okay, but kinda bland. I feel like it needs more spices or something.

    1. User avatar bill.gutkowski says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! I added some chili flakes and it made a big difference. More spice is a must!

    2. User avatar leonard.blick says:

      3 stars
Bland? I thought it was refreshing! Maybe you just need to try adding more lime next time?

  49. User avatar rolland.marks12 says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, the cayenne felt a bit aggressive for soup. Maybe I’ll cut it in half next time. Still a nice flavor and super easy.

    1. User avatar trent.mcdermott37 says:

      5 stars
Totally get what you mean—cayenne can be way more punchy than you expect in a chilled soup. Cutting it in half next time is a smart move. Glad the base flavor still worked for you though!

  50. User avatar clement.hagenes70 says:

    4 stars
Quick and easy! But isn’t garlic bad for dogs? Just saying!

    1. User avatar estelle.boyle74 says:

      4 stars
Yeah, garlic can be harmful to dogs, but I think this recipe is just for humans! Looks yummy though!

  51. User avatar paris.rogahn74 says:

    3 stars
Cilantro ruins everything!!! I subbed parsley and it was much better. Still, not my fav.

  52. User avatar chantay.schultz77 says:

    2 stars
This is too green for me. I like my soup to look like soup, not like a salad in a blender.

  53. User avatar shaun.olson says:

    3 stars
It looks nice, but that seems like a lot of ingredients for soup. I like simple.

  54. 2 stars
I didn’t like the cilantro in this. I think it ruins the flavor. Next time I’ll skip that.

  55. User avatar akiko.halvorson94 says:

    3 stars
Cilantro? Gross. I’d rather use parsley! But the sou[d] looks yum.

  56. 5 stars
5 stars. So easy and tastes expensive. Like restaurant vibes.

  57. User avatar hugh.rippin81 says:

    4 stars
Avocado soup? Who knew!?! This is my new go-to recipe.

  58. User avatar rex.herman41 says:

    1 star
This is just guacamole in soup form… 🤔 Kind of weird if you ask me.

  59. User avatar adam.medhurst59 says:

    5 stars
I made this and it’s surprisingly refreshing. The avocado makes it super creamy without any cooking—great for hot days. I added a bit more lime and it really popped.

  60. User avatar simone.klocko says:

    4 stars
It’s not bad, but I wish there was some crunch. I served it with diced cucumber on top and that fixed everything for me.

    1. User avatar emerson.lueilwitz says:

      5 stars
I totally get that—this soup is smooth, so a crunchy topping makes it way more interesting. Diced cucumber sounds perfect!
