Cranberry Sauce With Jalapeños

November 26, 2024

Cranberry sauce with jalapeños is a bold and flavorful twist on the classic holiday side dish that everyone knows and loves. It keeps the sweet-tart essence of traditional cranberry sauce but adds a little heat that surprises and delights. If you are looking to liven up your Thanksgiving or holiday table, this spicy cranberry sauce is the perfect way to do it.

The base starts the same as any traditional cranberry sauce – fresh or frozen cranberries simmered with sugar, water, and sometimes a splash of orange juice or zest. As the cranberries cook, they soften, burst, and create that thick, glossy sauce we all recognize. The magic happens when you stir in finely diced jalapeños. The peppers infuse the sauce with just enough heat to wake up your taste buds without overpowering the natural tartness of the cranberries.

The level of spice is completely customizable. For mild heat, remove the seeds and membranes from the jalapeños. If you like it hot, leave some or all of them in. A little bit of fresh ginger, a pinch of salt, and a squeeze of lime juice can also brighten the flavors and balance the sweetness perfectly. Some even like to stir in a spoonful of honey or swap water for orange juice to round out the sharp edges.

Cranberry sauce with jalapeños is incredibly versatile. Of course, it pairs beautifully with roast turkey or chicken, but it is also amazing as a spread for leftover turkey sandwiches. Try it with grilled pork, spooned over baked brie, or as a zesty topping for tacos. It even works surprisingly well alongside roasted vegetables or added to a cheese and charcuterie board.

For drinks, this sauce pairs well with crisp white wines like Sauvignon Blanc, light-bodied reds like Pinot Noir, or even a refreshing sparkling water with citrus. The hint of spice complements savory dishes while offering something unexpected.

Simple to prepare and bursting with flavor, cranberry sauce with jalapeños brings just the right amount of sweet, tart, and heat to make your holiday table unforgettable.

Cranberry sauce with jalapeños sounds like a bad idea. Who came up with this?!

I dunno about this one… cranberries and spicy stuff? Seems weird to me. My family didn’t like it at all.

  8. 4 stars
It’s easy to make but I think I used too many jalapeños. 😬 Next time I’ll do less.

  9. 5 stars
Tried this at Thanksgiving and everyone loved it! People were surprised and had seconds. Five stars all the way!!

Can someone tell me if I can use canned cranberries? I’m not a fan of all that boiling. 🙄

    1. User avatar isiah.damore1996 says:

      4 stars
Yeah, you can use canned cranberries! Just make sure to adjust the sugar since they might be sweeter. Good luck! 😊

  11. 3 stars
Too much heat for my family 😅 I’d use 1 jalapeño next time.

  12. User avatar dorcas.hudson says:

Perfect for Thanksgiving! The orange juice adds a nice flavor. Totally making this again!

    1. User avatar Loonquawl says:

Jalapeños in cranberry sauce? That sounds weird. I’m skeptical about this combo.

  13. 5 stars
Loved it! Made it for Thanksgiving and everyone asked for the recipe! ❤️

  14. 3 stars
I didn’t have orange juice, so I used apple juice. It turned out okay, but I feel like I missed out on the real flavor. Might try it again with the right ingredients.

    1. User avatar jose.welch says:

      4 stars
I think apple juice is a good substitute! Sometimes you gotta work with what you got. I bet it was still tasty!

    2. User avatar Spider Soldier says:

      2 stars
Nah, apple juice won’t cut it. You gotta use the orange juice for that zing! Try it again, but don’t cheat next time.

  15. 4 stars
I added more jalapeños and it was still super tasty. Spicy food rocks! 🔥

  16. User avatar bernard.tillman says:

Cranberries are sour not spicy! I don’t get it. Is this even a real recipe or just a joke? 😂

    1. User avatar brittni.crooks2015 says:

      2 stars
Nah, sounds weird to me. Cranberries are just tart, not spicy. What’s next, chili in pie?

    2. User avatar krishna.hirthe27 says:

I think it’s a real recipe! Adding jalapeños gives it a unique twist. So why not?

  17. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

I tried this recipe, but it didn’t thicken like I expected. Followed everything but still watery. Disappointed.

    1. User avatar mathWizard says:

      4 stars
I’m sorry to hear that! Maybe the heat was too low when you simmered it? It needs to bubble a bit to thicken properly.

    2. User avatar ariel.bergnaum34 says:

      3 stars
Disappointed? That’s rough! I had mine turn out a bit watery too but added some cornstarch and it thickened right up.

  18. User avatar cassie.miller37 says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I’m skeptical about mixing fruit and jalapeño, but this surprised me. Balanced sweetness, not just heat.

    1. 4 stars
Wait… jalapeño in cranberry sauce? That’s wild 😅 but I guess if you seed them it won’t be too spicy. I might try just one next time.

    2. 5 stars
I was really skeptical too—jalapeño + fruit sounds like a prank—but wow, the orange helps a lot. The sweetness totally balances the heat.

  19. User avatar alisa.block says:

    4 stars
I made this for a party and some people were like bleh but i loved it! lol

  20. User avatar val.williamson says:

    2 stars
Not sure about the jalapeños. I like spicy food, but this tasted kinda weird together? Cranberries are tart and jalapeño feels too sharp.

    1. User avatar Mrs. Darnell Dicki says:

      4 stars
Totally get what you mean. Jalapeño can come off “sharp” if you don’t balance it enough—next time try using just 1 pepper (or remove more seeds) and maybe simmer a few minutes longer so it mellows.

  21. 3 stars
Followed the simmer times pretty closely, but mine never really “thickened” like the recipe says—more like a loose jam. Maybe I cooked it too low?

  22. User avatar jonelle.toy says:

    2 stars
Ugh, I hate spicy food! I should’ve known better than to add jalapeños. I ended up adding more sugar to balance it out. Not doing that again.

  23. 2 stars
Cranberries r sour, right? They don’t need jalapeno!! Lol

  24. User avatar wilton.ullrich84 says:

    4 stars
Great balance of sweet and spicy! Even my picky brother loved it!

    1. User avatar Dorian Wehner DVM says:

      2 stars
Really? My kids hate cranberries! They’ll never eat it with spice.

    2. User avatar titus.marks36 says:

      4 stars
I never thought of adding jalapeños to cranberry sauce! Gonna try it out, thx!

  25. User avatar Super Saiyan 2 Gohan says:

    5 stars
I love that this is so easy! I made it for Thanksgiving, and everyone was amazed. Thanks!

  26. 4 stars
Not gonna lie, simmering 20 minutes seems a bit long but I followed it anyway. Sauce came out thick and glossy, and the seeds must help. Nice!

  27. User avatar Sand-Dial says:

    4 stars
I made this for a cook-off, and people were surprised by the spicy flavor! They were expecting the usual stuff. Pretty great!

  28. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    5 stars
This sauce is fantastic! The jalapeños add a unique twist that my family loved! Definitely making this for Thanksgiving!

  29. User avatar kelley.stoltenberg10 says:

    2 stars
Yuck, way too spicy for my taste. I think I’ll stick to the traditional recipe. Also, why would you put peppers in cranberry sauce?

  30. User avatar amee.jacobson34 says:

    3 stars
Took me longer than 10 mins to cook, but maybe I messed it up. Anyway taste was good, I guess.

  31. User avatar isreal.rohan says:

    4 stars
Kinda weird combo in my head: cranberry + jalapeño. But I followed it exactly and it ended up good. Still, I’ll warn people it bites a little.

  32. User avatar alec.barrows says:

    3 stars
1-2 jalapeños is kinda vague lol. I used 2 and now I regret everything. Still good though, just spicy-spicy.

  33. User avatar tracy.langosh94 says:

    2 stars
Cranberry sauce is already sweet-tart, so adding jalapeños feels… wrong? Like why ruin a good thing. Also fresh OJ is unnecessary in my opinion.

  34. User avatar darrick.watsica says:

    3 stars
I followed the recipe to the letter, and it turned out too spicy. Maybe use less jalapeños next time.

  35. User avatar vernita.stokes says:

    2 stars
I think cranberry sauce is overrated anyway. This one just proved it. Sorry!

    1. User avatar Draugr Scourge says:

      4 stars
I totally disagree! Cranberry sauce is a classic! The jalapeños sound like a fun twist. Maybe you just had a bad batch?

  36. User avatar waldo.cormier says:

    5 stars
Love how bright the orange juice is with the cranberries. The jalapeños give it that “sweet then kick” thing that makes it super addictive.

  37. User avatar Emily Saunders says:

    5 stars
Wow, this is a game changer! I never thought to add jalapeños to cranberry sauce. It was so zesty and fresh! Definitely a 5 for me!

    1. User avatar halflife4 says:

      2 stars
I dunno, jalapeños in cranberry sauce? That sounds weird to me. Why mess with a classic? I’ll stick to plain!

    2. 5 stars
That’s awesome to hear! I love spicy stuff – can’t wait to try it. Great recipe!

  38. User avatar Colin the Security Robot says:

    3 stars
Pretty good, but mine never really thickened like I expected. I simmered the full 20 mins too. Ended up more like a syrup—still tasty on turkey.

  39. User avatar Rob McKenna says:

    4 stars
So good, I didn’t know I was missing out on spicy cranberry sauce. Will make again!

  40. User avatar sherrill.walker2016 says:

    4 stars
Easy to make and soooo good! Will be making this every year now!

    1. User avatar wilfred.nolan says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! It’s such a fun twist on traditional cranberry sauce. Jalapeños add kick! 🌶️

  41. User avatar valeria.walsh says:

    2 stars
Not sure about the jalapeño—cranberries are already kinda spicy tangy. I guess I’m just cautious.

  42. User avatar Faramir says:

    5 stars
Wow, the jalapeño + orange combo sounds way more interesting than classic cranberry sauce. I’m definitely trying this for Thanksgiving this year.

  43. User avatar mary.pacocha55 says:

    5 stars
Delicious! I made this for Thanksgiving and it was a hit. Everyone asked for the recipe!

  44. 5 stars
This was amazing! The jalapeños added a perfect kick, totally transformed the sauce. Will make again!

  45. User avatar daria.krajcik1965 says:

Yuck, this was terrible. Cranberry sauce should be sweet not spicy. Never again!

  46. User avatar britany.renner says:

    4 stars
I dunno, didn’t think cranberries and jalapeños would mix. Guess I was wrong! It was surprisingly good!

  47. User avatar lenard.lesch42 says:

    3 stars
My grandma used to make something like this but without spice. I tried it your way. Not bad but kinda wish I stayed traditional.

  48. User avatar melba.stokes2005 says:

Wow, this sounds amazing! I love the idea of adding jalapeños to cranberry sauce. Can’t wait to try it!

    1. User avatar Charles Darwin says:

      2 stars
Are you sure about that? Seems weird to me. Sweet and spicy sounds kind of off. Dunno if I’ll try it.

    2. User avatar joan.rice63 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! Jalapeños in cranberry sauce sounds so unique. It’s like a party in your mouth! 🎉

  49. User avatar Katelin Ruecker says:

    3 stars
Jalapeños in cranberry sauce? Nah, I’m not convinced. Plain cranberry is classic!

    1. User avatar sung.hand says:

      4 stars
I totally get where you’re coming from, but give it a shot! The heat of jalapeños adds a fun twist to the sweetness of cranberries. Trust me, it’s worth it!

    2. User avatar aide.zemlak2013 says:

      2 stars
Nah, plain is better. You don’t mess with a classic! 🍗

  50. User avatar arnoldo.stoltenberg says:

    4 stars
Super easy. I accidentally used less orange juice (like 1/2 cup) and it turned out too thick at first, but after cooling it was alright. Flavor is legit.

    1. 5 stars
Tried it last weekend—so good. The jalapeño heat sits in the back nicely and the orange makes it feel super bright. I did need a few extra minutes to get it to thicken, but cooling helped a lot.

    2. User avatar Draugr Scourge says:

      4 stars
Mine was way too thick too, i only had like half the oj but i kept simmering forever 😅 still tasted good though. Next time i’ll follow the cup. Cranberry + jalapeño is a wild combo but it works!

  51. User avatar denny.walker says:

    5 stars
This is the best cranberry sauce! The jalapeños give it such a nice kick!

    1. User avatar Sand-Dial says:

      2 stars
Eh, I’m not sure about spicy sauce with cranberry. Sounds weird to me… 🤔

    2. User avatar danial.schimmel95 says:

      5 stars
I didn’t think jalapeños would work in cranberry sauce, but wow! You made me a believer! 🍽️

  52. User avatar ward.schimmel98 says:

    3 stars
Mine didn’t thicken much after 10 extra minutes—maybe my cranberries were drier? Still tasty, just more like a compote than a sauce.

  53. User avatar rickey.dicki says:

    5 stars
I was skeptical about the jalapeños, but wow! This recipe is a game changer. Sweet and spicy perfection!

    1. User avatar burton.sporer1986 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! I never thought I’d like jalapeños in cranberry sauce, but it works so well! Definitely a keeper!

    2. User avatar Valarie Rice says:

      2 stars
Jalapeños with cranberries? That’s a bit weird, don’t you think? I prefer my sauce plain. Maybe I’ll skip this one.

  54. User avatar flavia.cartwright12 says:

    5 stars
Cranberries are good for you. This is a smart way to eat them. I like the orange juice part!

  55. User avatar nichol.bashirian37 says:

    3 stars
I’m confused about the jalapeños… are they gonna make it too spicy? 🤔

    1. User avatar Obdulia Berge says:

      4 stars
I was worried about the jalapeños too at first! But they actually add a nice kick without being over the top. Just make sure to taste it before serving! 😊

  56. 5 stars
This recipe is the bomb! The sweetness with spice is just perfect! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    1. 5 stars
I totally agree! I made this for Thanksgiving and it was a hit! The little kick from the jalapeños is so good! 😍

  57. User avatar karen.paucek2010 says:

    3 stars
Made this last night, and my kids were like, ‘What is this?!’ They didn’t like the spiciness. I’ll stick to the plain stuff from now on.

    1. User avatar colette.west20 says:

      4 stars
I totally get it! My kids are the same way. Maybe try reducing the jalapeños next time?

  58. User avatar bud.lynch91 says:

    5 stars
So good! We had it with turkey and it was a hit! I want to try it with fish next.

  59. User avatar gayle.hand25 says:

    4 stars
This is good but too spicy for my kids 😩. I think it’s better without the peppers.

  60. User avatar will.haley says:

    4 stars
OMG yumm! I made this for a gathering and everyone loved it! Will definitely make it again.

  61. User avatar Noelia Funk says:

    2 stars
Meh, I don’t think sweet and spicy mix well. Just keep it traditional with just sugar and cranberries.

  62. User avatar mariette.blanda68 says:

    3 stars
Interesting combo. I’d buy it but I’m not sure I can cook that.

    1. 2 stars
Sounds good, but I’m not a “boil and hope” cook 😅. Also do you mince the jalapeño with seeds? Mine would probably end up too hot.

    2. User avatar veola.nolan says:

      4 stars
I get you—this looks spicy but it’s actually pretty simple. Just simmer and stir until it thickens. You can start with only 1 jalapeño if you’re nervous.

  63. 2 stars
I don’t know about this recipe. Cranberry sauce should be sweet, not spicy! I think the jalapeños ruin it. Two stars.

  64. User avatar dee.bahringer says:

    3 stars
I used bottled orange juice and it was still fine. I think fresh is best, but honestly it’s hard to justify squeezing every time. Flavor was good either way.

    1. User avatar Falmer Shaman says:

      3 stars
I’m gonna be a little skeptical—bottled OJ usually has more sugar and preservatives, so I’d think it’d change the tartness. But if it tasted good, fair enough. Did you adjust the sugar at all?

    2. User avatar terrence.rath89 says:

      5 stars
Good to know bottled juice works! I’m with you—fresh is great, but who wants to squeeze oranges every time. Glad the flavor still came out.

  65. User avatar sherice.thiel27 says:

    3 stars
I tried this and the jalapeños made it too spicy for my kids. I prefer the regular recipe. 🤷‍♀️

  66. User avatar christopher.marquardt32 says:

    4 stars
I added 2 jalapeños like the recipe says and it was definitely spicy. Still super tasty though.

  67. User avatar Jaime Rolfson says:

    2 stars
I don’t know about adding jalapeños. Sounds weird to me. What were you thinkin’?

  68. 3 stars
Easy to make, but I think I put too much jalapeño… it’s too hot now. Next time, I’ll use less.

    1. User avatar Cordie Greenfelder DDS says:

      4 stars
Jalapeños can be tricky! Maybe just try a tiny piece next time to test the heat before adding more.

    2. User avatar frederick.hickle21 says:

      3 stars
Too hot? I thought jalapeño was mild. Must be my taste. lol

  69. User avatar arlette.gislason says:

    4 stars
I used juice from a bottle (oops). It still came out great, but next time I’ll squeeze fresh like it says.

  70. 4 stars
I used 1 jalapeño and thought it would be mild, but wow—still got some heat. Tastes amazing though. Next time I’ll try 1/2 jalapeño lol.

    1. 5 stars
Haha yep jalapeños love to humble us. Glad it still tasted amazing though—next time half it is! 😄

  71. User avatar tajuana.welch60 says:

    5 stars
Loved the sweet-tart balance! The jalapeño kicked in nicely without being overpowering—perfect with turkey.

  72. User avatar berna.kuphal says:

    1 star
Cranberries + jalapeños = weird combo. 1 star for trying but never again!

    1. 4 stars
I thought it sounded strange too, but it’s actually pretty good! The sweetness of the cranberries balances the heat from the jalapeños.

  73. 5 stars
    Mmm! Tasty!👌

  74. User avatar kathey.conn1989 says:

    4 stars
Super easy recipe! I didn’t even have to watch the pot that much. I added some cinnamon for a twist; came out delicious!

    1. User avatar hedy.weissnat24 says:

      5 stars
Sounds yum! I love the idea of adding cinnamon. Gonna try that next time!

    2. User avatar pauline.kris1958 says:

      2 stars
Wait, jalapeños in cranberry sauce? That’s weird. Not sure about that combo.

  75. User avatar marnie.beatty77 says:

    3 stars
Pretty straightforward recipe, but I’m skeptical about using only orange juice for liquid. Would it be too thick or sour if the cranberries are extra tart? Might need a splash more orange juice.

  76. User avatar Claudio Nienow says:

    4 stars
Made this last Thanksgiving—mine was a little too spicy because I didn’t seed the jalapeños enough, lol. Next time I’ll use 1 pepper for sure. Still delicious though.

  77. 5 stars
This is great on turkey but also weirdly good with cream cheese on crackers. The color came out really pretty too.

  78. User avatar carter.goyette21 says:

    5 stars
Easy recipe! Only thing—fresh orange juice matters. I tried store-bought once and it tasted flatter. This version is bright and clean.

  79. User avatar apolonia.botsford says:

    5 stars
This was a hit at our Thanksgiving dinner! The jalapeños gave it just the right kick. 🌶️ Definitely making it again!

  80. 5 stars
Love the sweet-tart vibe here, and the jalapeño addition sounds like it would really punch up the flavor. I bet it’s amazing with turkey or even a cheese board.

  81. 5 stars
This is the best cranberry sauce ever! Sweet and spicy, just like my grandma used to make but with a kick!

    1. User avatar margarite.schroeder16 says:

      3 stars
I can’t believe you put jalapeños in cranberry sauce! That sounds crazy! But I guess some people like spicy stuff.

  82. 5 stars
5 stars for the creativity! I never thought of adding jalapeños. 🥳

  83. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    3 stars
Mine didn’t thicken much after 10 minutes, so I simmered longer. Eventually it worked, just plan for extra time.

  84. 2 stars
Cranberry??? why not raspberry huh? Just sayin! Not for me.

    1. User avatar taylor.hamill says:

      5 stars
Cranberries have that tartness that really complements the heat from jalapeños! It’s a classic combo, try it sometime!

    2. User avatar foster.schuppe52 says:

      3 stars
Raspberry sauce is great too, but this is about cranberries! I think it works well for Thanksgiving. Just saying!

  85. User avatar olivia.grant66 says:

    1 star
This is just sugar and bitter berries. Honestly, y’all are crazy if you think this tastes good. 😬

  86. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    2 stars
Why would you ruin cranberry sauce with jalapeños?? Just keep it sweet! I’m giving this a 2.

I accidentally left the seeds in my jalapeño… that was a mistake 😂 Still, it’s bold and I’m not mad. Works great as a spicy topping.

Wow, this is a unique twist! I never thought to add jalapeños to cranberry sauce. Can’t wait for Thanksgiving!

This is the first time I’ve done jalapeños in sauce and it turned out way better than I expected. My family asked for more on leftovers!

Cranberry sauce should be sweet and tangy, not spicy! Idk who thought jalapeños were a good idea.

The orange juice ratio feels a little high to me. I liked it, but it tasted more like orange cranberry drink than sauce at first.

The orange juice makes it taste brighter than I expected. I’ll be making this every year.

Isn’t it kinda weird to put jalapeños in something sweet? Not sure about this one…

I’m not usually into spicy fruit sauces, but this one was actually balanced. The sweetness tames the heat and the orange keeps it bright. Solid.

Tried this and it was… interesting. The heat of the jalapeños was a bit too much for my family. Maybe I’ll skip them next time.

This tastes like holiday food should taste. Sweet, spicy, and not too complicated—win.

I made it and it was… okay? Mine turned out kinda bitter even though I followed the steps. Maybe I didn’t seed the jalapeño enough? Also, 10 minutes felt short for thickening, I had to cook longer.

Totally agree—this is sweet, spicy, and so easy. I used 1 jalapeño and it still had a nice kick. Great with turkey (and even vanilla ice cream as a weird bonus).

    Yum.

Skip this one. Just get the canned stuff. This is way too much work for not great taste.

This is such an easy upgrade to store-bought cranberry sauce. Simmer time was spot on for me.

Made this for Thanksgiving and it was a hit. The jalapeño heat is super balanced with the orange—nice kick without being too spicy.

I used 1 jalapeño (seeded) and it was still spicy enough to make me raise an eyebrow. Next time I’ll try 1/2 just to tame it a bit.

I was worried the jalapeños would overpower it, but the cranberries keep it balanced. I used 1 pepper and it’s perfect heat for me.

Brought it to a boil and it foamed like crazy for a minute. Stirring helps. Sauce was worth it.

Same here—mine foamed like crazy for a bit too. I just kept an eye on it and stirred more often, and it turned out great. That jalapeño kick with the orange is awesome.

The cooking time checks out—my cranberries burst around 10 minutes. Sauce thickened nicely after the second simmer. Chilled, it tastes like fancy store-bought (but better).
