Cranberry Sauce With Jalapeños

November 26, 2024

Cranberry sauce with jalapeños is a bold and flavorful twist on the classic holiday side dish that everyone knows and loves. It keeps the sweet-tart essence of traditional cranberry sauce but adds a little heat that surprises and delights. If you are looking to liven up your Thanksgiving or holiday table, this spicy cranberry sauce is the perfect way to do it.

The base starts the same as any traditional cranberry sauce – fresh or frozen cranberries simmered with sugar, water, and sometimes a splash of orange juice or zest. As the cranberries cook, they soften, burst, and create that thick, glossy sauce we all recognize. The magic happens when you stir in finely diced jalapeños. The peppers infuse the sauce with just enough heat to wake up your taste buds without overpowering the natural tartness of the cranberries.

The level of spice is completely customizable. For mild heat, remove the seeds and membranes from the jalapeños. If you like it hot, leave some or all of them in. A little bit of fresh ginger, a pinch of salt, and a squeeze of lime juice can also brighten the flavors and balance the sweetness perfectly. Some even like to stir in a spoonful of honey or swap water for orange juice to round out the sharp edges.

Cranberry sauce with jalapeños is incredibly versatile. Of course, it pairs beautifully with roast turkey or chicken, but it is also amazing as a spread for leftover turkey sandwiches. Try it with grilled pork, spooned over baked brie, or as a zesty topping for tacos. It even works surprisingly well alongside roasted vegetables or added to a cheese and charcuterie board.

For drinks, this sauce pairs well with crisp white wines like Sauvignon Blanc, light-bodied reds like Pinot Noir, or even a refreshing sparkling water with citrus. The hint of spice complements savory dishes while offering something unexpected.

Simple to prepare and bursting with flavor, cranberry sauce with jalapeños brings just the right amount of sweet, tart, and heat to make your holiday table unforgettable.

      4 stars
I’m sorry to hear that! Maybe the heat was too low when you simmered it? It needs to bubble a bit to thicken properly.

Disappointed? That’s rough! I had mine turn out a bit watery too but added some cornstarch and it thickened right up.

I thought it sounded strange too, but it’s actually pretty good! The sweetness of the cranberries balances the heat from the jalapeños.
