The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of three types of bread produced by Maryland-based Upper Crust Bakery LP. The recall, affecting six states, was issued after a small glass fragment was discovered on a piece of seeded bread.
According to a statement shared with People, the bakery voluntarily initiated the recall after an employee found the glass fragment. A subsequent investigation traced the contamination back to sunflower seeds from a supplier.
The recall began on April 12, 2025, and the FDA later classified it as a Class II recall on April 25—meaning the product may cause temporary or reversible health effects.
As of April 30, the recall remains ongoing. However, Upper Crust Bakery stated it is “extremely confident” the issue has been resolved thanks to quick action, robust quality systems, and dedicated staff. The company also reaffirmed its commitment to product safety and quality.
