Tzatziki Chickpea Salad

March 5, 2025

Tzatziki chickpea salad is a refreshing, nutrient-packed dish that combines the best of Mediterranean flavors. With creamy tzatziki dressing, hearty chickpeas, and crisp vegetables, this salad is both satisfying and light, making it an ideal choice for lunch, a side dish, or even a healthy snack. It’s a delightful twist on traditional chickpea salads, offering a creamy, tangy texture thanks to the yogurt-based tzatziki sauce.

The foundation of this salad is chickpeas, which are high in protein and fiber, making them both filling and nutritious. The addition of crunchy cucumber, ripe tomatoes, red onions, and fresh herbs like parsley and dill adds vibrant color and a burst of freshness. The creamy tzatziki dressing, made from Greek yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, and a touch of dill, perfectly complements the chickpeas and vegetables with its cool, tangy flavor. The yogurt’s richness pairs beautifully with the crispness of the cucumbers and the earthiness of the chickpeas, creating a balanced and satisfying bite every time.

What makes tzatziki chickpea salad particularly appealing is its versatility. It can be enjoyed as a light meal on its own, served alongside grilled meats like lamb or chicken, or tucked into pita bread for a Mediterranean-style wrap. The salad is also customizable—feel free to add extra ingredients like olives, feta cheese, or avocado for added flavor and texture.

This salad is not only quick and easy to prepare, but it’s also great for meal prep. The flavors develop and improve over time, making it perfect for storing in the fridge for a few days. It’s also a wonderful make-ahead dish for picnics, barbecues, or potlucks.

With its combination of creamy, tangy, and fresh elements, tzatziki chickpea salad is a healthy, satisfying dish that celebrates the bright, bold flavors of the Mediterranean.

I added some feta and it instantly turned into my favorite lunch. The yogurt dressing clings well to the chickpeas—yum.

Interesting—feta + tzatziki vibes. I usually hate when dressings get watery though… do you find it stays thick or does it get runny after sitting?

    2. 5 stars
Omg feta makes everything better 😄 I love that the yogurt dressing clings to the chickpeas—exactly what I want in a salad like this.

This is super refreshing—tastes like a tzatziki vibe but in salad form. The lemon and dill combo is spot on.

This was ok. But my mom makes it better. Don’t know what she does though.

Pfft. Who needs chickpeas when you can have a juicy steak? This salad is gonna be bland.

I get where you’re coming from! But chickpeas are super healthy and fill you up, too. You can always add some chicken or bacon for that meatiness!

Not my favorite. Chickpeas are kind of boring, right? Just potatoes are better.

    1. User avatar gwenn.konopelski says:

      5 stars
I totally disagree! Chickpeas are super versatile and add a nice texture. Potatoes are just… well, kinda mushy.

Not quite like the tzatziki I know. Garlic is a bit much! But the texture was nice.

Tzatziki flavor ain’t what I thought it’d be but still edible.

    1. User avatar basementDweller says:

I actually love that you tried it! Tzatziki can be hit or miss, but it’s great on different things. You just gotta adjust it to your taste, maybe more garlic next time?

I dunno… I’m not a fan of dill. Could I use something else? Maybe basil?

I used dried dill because I didn’t have fresh, and it wasn’t as aromatic. Still tasted healthy, but I missed that fresh “pop.”

No way this was good! What’s the deal with yogurt in a salad? Just not for me.

  20. User avatar kathryn.orn says:

Why not just make regular tzatziki? Chickpeas feel kinda random, but I get it—still, the texture was a bit weird to me.

  21. User avatar Sean Yost says:

    3 stars
I don’t understand how chickpeas can be salad, but the yogurt dressing was nice.

    1. User avatar Jenifer Murphy says:

Chickpeas are great in salads! They add protein. Glad you liked the dressing!

    2. User avatar tyson.paucek says:

      2 stars
Salad? Really? Sounds more like a weird dip to me. But hey, if you liked the dressing, that’s cool.

  22. 5 stars
OMG this is the best salad ever!!! My kids ate it too!!

  23. User avatar cory.turner59 says:

    2 stars
Okay I tried it but I accidentally used onion powder instead of red onion and it was not the same. Still decent though.

    1. 4 stars
Ahh that makes sense—onion powder won’t give the same crunch or bite as real red onion. I’m glad it was still decent though! Next time maybe use just a little chopped onion (or even swap green onion) to keep that fresh tzatziki vibe.

  24. User avatar lucas.weimann90 says:

    2 stars
Why is this called tzatziki? It’s not like the traditional recipe at all. Don’t get the hype.

  25. User avatar osvaldo.hickle2 says:

    4 stars
I added cumin and it gave it a nice twist! Will make again!

  26. User avatar guinea pig says:

Quick and yummy. Perfect for a hot day. Me and my kids gobbled it up!

    1. User avatar Rito Chieftain says:

      5 stars
Sounds delicious! I’m definitely gonna try this with my family too.

  27. 2 stars
Too much garlic for my taste. Made the whole thing kinda overpowering.

  28. 3 stars
The recipe says salt and pepper to taste, but like… how much? I added too much salt and regretted it 😅

    1. 2 stars
Yeah same happened to me—i just dumped a bunch like a fool. Also i think the lemon juice already salty? So maybe hold off on salt until after you chill it a bit.

    2. User avatar james.hintz says:

      5 stars
Totally feel you 😅 When it says “to taste,” I usually start with ~1/4 tsp salt for this amount, then add more in tiny pinches. Pepper maybe 1/8–1/4 tsp to start.

  29. User avatar Lauren Ortiz says:

    4 stars
Easy recipe. I don’t usually measure 1/4 cup tomatoes right—more like “a handful”—and it still turned out okay, lol. 😅

    1. User avatar mabel.hammes19 says:

      5 stars
Honestly “a handful” is exactly how I do most salads too 😂 Glad it still worked for you! The yogurt + lemon/dill really pulls it together.

    2. User avatar floyd.rosenbaum17 says:

      3 stars
Hmm maybe but tomatoes vary so much—did it get watery? I always worry that eyeballing will throw off the balance with the yogurt.

  30. User avatar Thufir Hawat says:

    4 stars
I did exactly the recipe and it came out great. Only thing: I chopped the cucumber a bit too big, so next time I’ll go smaller for better bites.
