Greek Lemon Chicken and Potatoes is a comforting, flavorful dish that captures the essence of Mediterranean home cooking. It’s a simple, one-pan meal that combines tender, juicy chicken with crispy, golden potatoes, infused with lemon, garlic, oregano, and olive oil for a bold, zesty flavor.
The key to this dish is its marinade. Fresh lemon juice, olive oil, minced garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper come together to create a tangy and aromatic blend that tenderizes the chicken while flavoring the potatoes. The chicken is typically bone-in and skin-on, which helps retain moisture and develop a beautifully crispy skin as it roasts in the oven.
The potatoes are cut into wedges or chunks and roasted alongside the chicken in the same pan. As the dish bakes, the potatoes absorb the flavorful juices from the chicken and lemon-garlic marinade, resulting in a savory, caramelized finish. Some versions also include a touch of chicken broth or white wine in the pan to add depth and keep everything moist.
Greek Lemon Chicken and Potatoes is best served straight from the oven, garnished with fresh herbs like parsley or dill and a sprinkle of crumbled feta for added richness. Pair it with a Greek salad, warm pita bread, or a side of tzatziki for a complete meal.
Whether you’re serving a casual family dinner or entertaining guests, this dish offers comfort, flavor, and simplicity in every bite. It’s a perfect way to bring the sunny flavors of Greece into your kitchen any time of year.

I’m not sure about all that lemon juice. It sound too acidic. Is there a substitute?
Yum! Chickens and potatoes came out spot on. Excellent!
I think 400°F is too low? At least for my setup. Also, I used chicken thighs instead of leg quarters and it didn’t taste as “Greek” as I expected—needs more oregano maybe.
Super easy to make! I just threw everything in there and it turned out great! 👌
This recipe is amazing! The chicken was juicy and had a great flavor. Will definitely make again!
This was amazing! The chicken was so juicy and the potatoes were perfect. Will make again!
meh. Didn’t wow me.
Not bad, but mine came out a bit bland. I doubled the salt by accident on one batch and it was better, so maybe my lemons were less juicy? I dunno.
Maybe try zesting too? I always add lemon zest and a tiny bit more garlic. If you doubled salt and it was better then yeah, your lemons probably weren’t as punchy. Mine came out bland once when I only used bottled lemon juice.
Ugh, that sounds frustrating. I’ve found lemon juice varies a LOT—if your lemons were smaller/drier, the whole dish can taste muted. Also, this recipe’s salt is pretty modest for 4 legs + potatoes; doubling salt (carefully!) usually helps more than people expect.
I followed the recipe but my chicken came out dry. What did I do wrong? 🤔
Is there a way to make this quicker? I’m not good at waiting an hour!
You could try cutting the chicken and potatoes smaller. They might cook faster that way!
Easiest recipe ever! I threw everything in and it turned out great. The only change I made was adding a bit of rosemary. So good!
Seems too complicated for me. Can’t I just throw the chicken into the pot and let it cook? 🤔
My marinade looked a little thin (like more liquid than paste), but it still worked. I think brushing the chicken halfway might make it even better, though.
Made this for dinner with my mom and it was a hit! We added some feta on top, yumm!
Delicious! I added some rosemary and it turned out fantastic. Highly recommend! 👍
Did you know you can also use sweet potatoes for this? A bit different but yum!
Not bad but a bit too lemony for my taste. I think half the lemon juice would suffice.
I love lemon! But I guess some people don’t like it so strong. Maybe just add less next time!
so easy to make and delicious! even my picky kids loved it!!
Honestly, I thought the chicken was overcooked. Maybe check it sooner? My potatoes got all mushy too. 😕
Quick and easy recipe! Loved it!!! Great for weeknight dinner.
Absolutely delicious! The chicken was so juicy, and the potatoes were crispy! I’ll definitely make this again. 🍋🐔
Best chicken ever!!!!
I totally agree! This chicken is amazing! I made it last night and my family loved it. Definitely a keeper! 🍗❤️
This was delish! My family loved it. I added some extra lemon juice because I like it tangy.
It turned out okay but I thought the chicken was a bit dry. Maybe I cooked it too long? 🤔
This recipe is a winner! The chicken was so juicy and the potatoes were perfect! Thank you!
I didn’t have olive oil, so I used butter. It was a disaster! 😬
I followed the recipe but the chicken was a bit dry. Maybe I cooked it too long?
Made this for a potluck, everyone raved about it! Best recipe ever! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Lemon chicken? More like lemon disaster! My kids hated it and I ended up ordering pizza. Never again.
Sorry to hear it didn’t work out! My family loves it, the lemon gives a nice zing. Maybe give it another shot with less lemon?
I love Greek food! This is a great recipe, but I’d add some feta on top for extra flavor.
Oregano? Is that really necessary? I just don’t like it, might try without.
Chicken was undercooked. Not sure if I did something wrong, but won’t try again.
Sounds like you might not have cooked it long enough. The chicken should be fully cooked at 1 hour. Try checking that the internal temperature reaches 165°F next time!
Too much lemon for my taste. Maybe just one lemon next time? Not sure I’d make it again. 😕
not bad, but I added too much cayenne pepper. spicy wooooo!
Too much lemon for my liking. I think I’ll cut down on that next time.
It was okay… but can I substitute regular potatoes for sweet potatoes? Asking for a friend.
I think the recipe is missing something… maybe some herbs? It was just kinda bland for me.
Nah, I think it’s fine as is. Chicken and potatoes are supposed to be simple, not overdone! Just add some hot sauce if you want flavor.
I agree! A sprinkle of fresh herbs would elevate this dish so much. Maybe some parsley or thyme would do the trick!
This recipe was okay, but I think it needs more seasoning. It felt bland to me. Maybe a little more salt?
Not sure why the author said cayenne pepper, I don’t think it belongs in this recipe. Just use regular spices, people!!
Super easy! Made this for my family and they loved it. Just like my grandma used to make.
