Cordon Bleu

December 2, 2024

Cordon Bleu is a classic dish that combines tender meat, rich cheese, and crispy breadcrumbs into one deliciously satisfying meal. Traditionally made with chicken, veal, or pork, the meat is pounded thin, filled with ham and Swiss cheese, then rolled, breaded, and pan-fried or baked until golden brown and perfectly melted inside.

Though many associate Cordon Bleu with French cuisine, its exact origins are debated. The name “Cordon Bleu,” which means “blue ribbon” in French, originally referred to an order of French knights known for their excellence—and later, became a symbol of culinary distinction. Over time, the term came to be associated with dishes that represent high standards of cooking.

While the dish may not have originated directly from a French kitchen, its preparation and presentation follow the precision and flair of traditional French techniques. From carefully layering the ingredients to sealing them tightly before breading, each step requires attention to detail, much like many authentic French recipes.

Cordon Bleu is also incredibly versatile. Some versions add Dijon mustard, a nod to its French flavor roots, or use Gruyère cheese for a deeper, nuttier taste. It’s often served with creamy sauces, such as Mornay or béchamel, both staples in classic French cooking.

Today, Cordon Bleu is enjoyed around the world, not just in fancy French restaurants but also as a comforting homemade dish. It’s a favorite for family dinners and special occasions alike, offering a hearty combination of flavors and textures that never fail to impress.

Whether you’re savoring a gourmet French meal or enjoying a weeknight dinner, Cordon Bleu stands out as a timeless recipe. Its French name, rich filling, and golden crust all come together to create a dish worthy of its blue – ribbon heritage.

This entrée is easy and delicious!

Tip: Try to use the largest chicken breasts you can find so you’ll be able to roll them more easily.

Tried to make this but the chicken rolled apart in the oven. I think I might’ve overcooked it? Not sure what went wrong. Smelled good, tho.

This recipe is so delicious! I didn’t have Swiss cheese, so I used cheddar, and it turned out great! Will definitely make again.

This recipe is so good! My family loved it.

I made this for dinner last night and it was a hit! Super easy to follow.

  4. 4 stars
Looks easy! I’m gonna try it with turkey ham and mozzarella. If it’s not crispy enough, I’ll crank the oven to 400°F at the end.

    1. User avatar sandi.toy50 says:

      4 stars
Turkey ham is kinda salty, so go easy on the salt. Also, 400°F at the end might over-brown the breadcrumbs if they’re already dark—maybe cover loosely with foil first if needed.

    2. User avatar flora.emmerich says:

      5 stars
Nice! Turkey ham + mozzarella should work great—just make sure the chicken stays thin and even so it cooks through without drying out. If you want extra crisp, I’d broil for 1–2 minutes instead of only relying on a higher temp.

  5. 3 stars
It’s okay, but 350°F feels a bit low to me—mine took longer than 25 minutes. Also I ran out of patience for the toothpicks and just cut carefully.

  6. User avatar donn.hettinger says:

I’m impressed it’s this straightforward, but I’d maybe add a little mustard or garlic to the breadcrumb mix. Would punch it up.

    1. User avatar vania.heaney65 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—it’s super approachable. I’ve done panko + a pinch of garlic powder before and it really does “punch up” the crust. Mustard in the breadcrumb mix is an interesting idea too!

    2. 3 stars
Mustard seems kinda weird in breadcrumbs to me 😅 I’d rather just add garlic powder to the breadcrumbs or mix a little Dijon into the egg wash. Also 350°F feels low, should be closer to 400°F so it browns faster.

  7. User avatar dick.vonrueden80 says:

So easy and delish 😋! I used cheddar instead of Swiss because that’s what I had. Still good! Thanks!

    1. User avatar Devon Ortiz says:

      5 stars
Cheddar sounds like a great idea! I might try that next time. Thanks for sharing! 😊

    2. 3 stars
I don’t know… Swiss is supposed to be part of the recipe. Isn’t that kinda important? 🤔

  8. User avatar venus.ebert1979 says:

    3 stars
It turned out okay, but I found the chicken a bit dry. Maybe I cooked it too long? Not sure if I’ll try it again.

  9. User avatar catharine.prohaska1968 says:

2 pieces chicken breast, 2 slices ham, 2 slices cheese—seems too little for how thick I made my rolls. I ended up using extra ham/cheese.

  10. User avatar minda.braun82 says:

    2 stars
I find this hard to believe. Can chicken really be that delicious? I’ve never seen it done before like this.

    1. 5 stars
OMG, yes! Cordon Bleu is SO good! You gotta try it! Chicken can be super yummy when done right!

  11. 4 stars
I followed it pretty much exactly, but I needed closer to 30 min in my oven to get the chicken fully cooked. Still delicious though!

    1. User avatar ALTplusF4 says:

      5 stars
Glad it worked for you! Oven temps can be so inconsistent—30 minutes totally makes sense for chicken breasts. What temp did you cook yours at?

  12. 2 stars
Unpopular opinion: cordon bleu should be breaded in a thinner way. This came out more like schnitzel. Still good, just not what I was picturing.

  13. 3 stars
Not sure about the 350°F—felt too low for the crisp. I got color, but I wanted more browning. Still good flavor.

  14. 3 stars
Ok but who exactly measures ‘to taste’ salt and pepper? 😂 I winged it and it was fine, just sayin’.

    1. 5 stars
Haha fair point 😂 I usually do a pinch, then another, then stop when it “tastes right.” “To taste” is basically code for “season until you’re happy.”

  15. User avatar coretta.cassin1962 says:

Not the best recipe. I accidentally burnt mine because I didn’t know how to sear properly. Maybe video tutorials would help?

    1. 4 stars
I totally get what you mean! Video tutorials can really help visualize the steps. Maybe try turning the heat down next time to avoid burning?

  16. 2 stars
I tried it and my breadcrumb coating slid off on the skillet, idk what I did wrong. Still tasted good though—maybe my eggs were too thin?

  17. User avatar quinton.bartell47 says:

    2 stars
Y’all, I messed up and forgot the egg! Still turned out fine but I’m missing the crunch. Will follow the recipe next time, lol.

  18. User avatar Alia Atreides says:

    5 stars
So much cheese, love it! Could eat it every day!

  19. 3 stars
This sounds great but I’m skeptical about 350°F for only 20-25 minutes. With thicker chicken, that’s risky. Anyone else cook longer?

  20. 3 stars
The instructions are clear, but I think 1 cup breadcrumbs is a lot—mine got way too dry on the outside. I added a splash of oil to the mix.

  21. User avatar melvin.hessel28 says:

Cordon bleu? Sounds fancy but tastes like chicken nuggets lol!

  22. User avatar marc.yundt1990 says:

Tried this tonight and it actually came out really crispy. The ham + Swiss combo is perfect, and the toothpick step saved me from the filling leaking everywhere. 10/10 comfort food.

Can you use any cheese? I don’t like Swiss.

  27. User avatar roderick.osinski46 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but my chicken took closer to 30 minutes to cook through at 350°F. Maybe my rolls were thicker. Still flavorful though—nice combo of ham and Swiss.

  28. User avatar guillermo.little50 says:

    2 stars
Idk why but my breadcrumb coating got soggy in the oven. Maybe I didn’t sear long enough or my oven runs humid? Any tips?

  29. User avatar jennine.doyle94 says:

    5 stars
This was super easy and delicious. Kids actually ate it. Salt and pepper at the end is key.

    1. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

      5 stars
Yes!! The salt and pepper at the end really makes it pop. I also love that it’s not too fussy—my kids usually won’t touch “fancy” food but they ate this too.

    2. User avatar jarrod.romaguera says:

      3 stars
I tried it but mine got a little dry even though I followed the time. Next time I’ll probably bake a bit less and make sure the chicken is really pounded thin. Still tasted good though.

  30. User avatar nicolas.kunze says:

    2 stars
I messed it up. The chicken was dry. Maybe I cooked it too long?

  31. 4 stars
My buddy said to add spices to the flour mix. Gonna try that next time!

    1. User avatar rosia.rice3 says:

      5 stars
Spices sound great! Makes it more flavorful. Let us know how it turns out!

  32. User avatar lemuel.hackett94 says:

Cordon what? I always thought it was just a fancy name for chicken nugget. Not bad tho, my husband liked it, I guess it’s a win.

  33. User avatar Gene E. Yuss says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight and it came out super crispy! The panko really helps. I baked it closer to 25 min and it was perfectly cooked.

  34. 2 stars
I don’t get how this is a French dish. It’s just chicken with ham and cheese!

  35. User avatar wellRespected says:

    5 stars
Five stars. Also, Swiss cheese never melts right for me but this time it did! lol

  36. User avatar kevin.wolff says:

    4 stars
I’m not usually a “breaded chicken” person but the instructions are clear. Mine needed like 5 extra minutes in the oven because the center was still a bit pink. Still tasty though!

  37. User avatar Mystic Gohan says:

    2 stars
I think 20-25 min is too short—mine was still pink after that. Also, I ran out of flour so I just did egg then breadcrumbs… still worked somehow.

  38. User avatar porter.heidenreich says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly and the breadcrumbs stayed a bit soft. Next time I’ll sear a minute longer and maybe broil at the end for extra crunch.

  39. User avatar katina.stamm says:

    3 stars
I don’t understand how you can make this without seasoning. Just salt and pepper? That’s kinda boring.

    1. User avatar otha.mohr84 says:

      5 stars
Salt and pepper are all you need! This is how classic recipes are made! Don’t overcomplicate it!

    2. User avatar marshall.wilkinson says:

      4 stars
I kind of agree with you! It’s like they forgot the garlic or something. But maybe the ham and cheese adds enough flavor?

  40. User avatar lawanda.johnston says:

    5 stars
Chef level!! I served it with mashed potatoes and everyone went back for seconds. The crust is the star.

  41. 3 stars
I don’t have Swiss cheese, can I use cheddar? 🤔

  42. User avatar benjamin.reynolds6 says:

    2 stars
Did you really use 1 cup of breadcrumbs? Mine were like, dry as a desert. 😅

    1. 4 stars
I had the same issue! I think the type of breadcrumbs makes a huge difference. Panko is supposed to be light and crispy, but maybe mine were old? 🤔

    2. User avatar mikel.vandervort92 says:

      3 stars
1 cup is a lot! I usually only use half a cup, and mine turned out fine. Maybe the dry ones were just your breadcrumbs? 🤷‍♂️

  43. User avatar earnest.crona says:

    2 stars
This is okay, but I’m skeptical about the whole “roll up and bake” thing. The breading should just stay on its own, ya know?

  44. 3 stars
I scratched that and made a veggie version with tofu… still good!

  45. User avatar else.douglas2001 says:

    5 stars
OMG!!! This was amazing! So crunchy and tasty. My kids loved it! 🌟

  46. User avatar ed.bogisich87 says:

    3 stars
The instructions were great, but my ham was thick and it didn’t roll well. What a fiasco! 😩

  47. User avatar jettie.schiller1959 says:

    3 stars
Do I have to use Panko breadcrumbs? Can I just use regular ones? 🤔

    1. User avatar scottie.wolff49 says:

      5 stars
You can totally use regular breadcrumbs! They won’t be as crispy as Panko but it’ll still taste great! 😋

    2. 4 stars
I think they should work fine, but I’ve heard Panko makes it crunchier. Idk, maybe trying a mix could be cool too?

  48. User avatar yolanda.johnson42 says:

    5 stars
Easiest recipe ever! Doing it again next week.

  49. User avatar maurice.hayes says:

    3 stars
Mine got a little soggy because I seared too long and then baked it too long. Next time I’ll watch it harder—flavor was still good.

  50. User avatar dorian.mohr says:

    4 stars
Only 20-25 minutes?? That’s like a little too short for me. Chicken can be tricky. Still, the flavors are solid.

  51. User avatar keila.murray says:

    5 stars
Love that you sear first then bake. I did 2 minutes longer in the oven and it came out perfect. Toothpick removal was scary lol but fine.

    1. User avatar leopoldo.greenholt53 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! I do the same—those extra couple minutes usually make it *just* right. Also the toothpicks… I thought I was gonna launch one across the kitchen 😅 but slicing after is so much easier.

  52. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    3 stars
Not sure if I like this. My husband said it was too salty.

  53. User avatar Bowerick Wowbagger says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have panko, so I used regular breadcrumbs. Texture was okay, but it wasn’t as crunchy. Flavor still hit.

  54. User avatar evelina.collier says:

    2 stars
Maybe I did something wrong, but the filling leaked a little when slicing. Could be my ham was too thick or I didn’t seal well.

  55. User avatar neil.gleichner75 says:

    4 stars
Cordon what? Never heard of it before! But now I’m hooked!

    1. 5 stars
Cordon Bleu is a classic! You’re gonna love it! 😍

  56. User avatar kieth.mayert says:

    3 stars
Love cordon bleu but I’m skeptical about the toothpicks—mine slid out and the filling tried to escape 😅. Next time I’ll tie them or use less roll pressure.

    1. 4 stars
Ugh yes, toothpicks are the make-or-break part 😅. I started using 2 toothpicks per roll and it helped a lot. Also don’t overstuff—cheese really wants to escape!

  57. User avatar lauren.heller2022 says:

    2 stars
Can I use cheddar instead of Swiss? Never heard of this dish before, sounds kinda weird. ⭐⭐

  58. User avatar Eccentrica Gallumbits says:

    5 stars
Yummy!! Quick and easy. I added some garlic powder and it made a big difference!

  59. User avatar Mr. Prosser says:

    3 stars
Umm, I have a question… Why do we need to pound the chicken? Can’t we just roll it? 🤔

    1. User avatar rolando.dubuque88 says:

      5 stars
Pounding the chicken helps it cook evenly and makes it tender. Rolling it might not get the same result. 😋

  60. User avatar eldon.murphy1999 says:

    4 stars
Yum! The crunch from the breadcrumbs was amazing.

    1. User avatar Duncan Idaho says:

      5 stars
Totally! The breadcrumbs make it so crunchy! I always use Panko too for that extra crunch.

    2. User avatar Margot Fenring says:

      2 stars
I followed the recipe but mine turned out soggy. Maybe I used too much oil? Not crunchy at all. 🙁

  61. 4 stars
I don’t have a meat mallet so I used a rolling pin. Kinda jank but it worked. Toothpicks were annoying though—splurged and got kitchen twine next time.

  62. 2 stars
Cordon Bleu? Isn’t that French? I thought it was Italian. 😅

  63. 4 stars
I was skeptical about baking after searing, but it actually saved it. Breadcrumbs stayed crunchy. My toothpicks came out fine—maybe I didn’t panic.

  64. User avatar ayanna.harber says:

    5 stars
Five stars! My kids ate it and asked for more. Also, the smell while searing was unreal—like restaurant vibes.

    1. User avatar Glossu "Beast" Rabban says:

      3 stars
I don’t know… mine came out kinda dry after baking. I think I might’ve overbaked it. Any tips for keeping the inside juicy? Still tastes good though.

    2. User avatar lavinia.sporer says:

      5 stars
Five stars for real! My kids devoured it too—asked for seconds immediately. The searing smell is seriously next-level like you said. Will definitely make again.

It didn’t turn out too good. The chicken was dry. I think I overcooked it.

    1. User avatar Denis Nitzsche says:

Sorry to hear that! Maybe try checking the internal temp next time? 165°F is usually good for chicken.

  68. User avatar frida.anderson says:

This is an amazing recipe! My family loved it, especially my kids. I added some garlic powder to the breadcrumbs for extra flavor. Will definitely make again!

  74. 5 stars
This turned out way better than I expected. The breadcrumb crust stayed nice and crisp, and the Swiss+ham combo is classic for a reason!

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—cordon bleu is one of those combos that just works. Love that you kept the crumb crust crisp.

  75. User avatar Cody Pendant says:

    2 stars
Cordon bleu… with toothpicks?? I mean, I guess it works, but wouldn’t it be safer to just use kitchen string? Mine kinda fell apart lol.

  76. 2 stars
Confession: I didn’t pound my chicken evenly and it cooked uneven. Outer parts were golden but center took longer. Still, easy instructions.

  77. User avatar annabelle.labadie88 says:

    3 stars
350°F seems a little low for chicken rolls. I cooked mine and they were still a bit underdone at 25 minutes. Probably depends on thickness—pound thinner!

  78. User avatar Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings says:

    2 stars
Did I miss something? Why do you roll it up? Seems like extra work.

  79. 3 stars
Not bad but kinda bland for me. Next time I’ll add garlic powder or some Dijon in the breadcrumb. Also 1 tbsp olive oil felt low for searing.

  80. User avatar Gurney Halleck says:

    4 stars
My breading fell off a little when I flipped it, but I realized my skillet wasn’t hot enough. Once hot, it stayed put.

  81. User avatar azzie.wuckert28 says:

    3 stars
I followed it closely but the breadcrumbs didn’t get as golden as I expected. I think my skillet temp was too low. Flavor was good though!

  82. User avatar Ilene Dover says:

    4 stars
Followed it pretty much exactly—though I didn’t have toothpicks and used little skewers. Still turned out great. Next time I’ll add a little mustard flavor though.

  83. User avatar krystal.goldner2026 says:

Not bad, but 350°F seems low. I cooked mine at 400°F and the crust held up better. Just sayin’.

  88. User avatar Carmelia D'Amore says:

I tried it, but the chicken was still raw inside. Might need a meat thermometer next time. 😒⭐

OMG so good! I’m making again tomorrow 😄

  90. User avatar mike.kuhlman83 says:

    3 stars
350°F seems low for how long it cooks. I thought it would be more browner, but the flavor was solid. Next time I’ll sear longer.

Chicken breast is too dry after baking. Fry it instead! Way better!

  92. 5 stars
This is such a satisfying dinner. The breadcrumb crust came out really crisp, and the ham + Swiss combo is classic for a reason.

  93. User avatar Jarod Cartwright says:

    3 stars
The breadcrumb coating tasted amazing, but I think 1/2 cup flour wasn’t enough for two breasts—mine got a little patchy. Maybe depends on how big your chicken is?

  94. User avatar alphonse.cremin46 says:

    4 stars
Delicious! I used less oil and it was still crunchy. Thanks for sharing!

  95. User avatar Android 19 says:

  96. User avatar emmanuel.bauch7 says:

    4 stars
Sounds fancy, but it’s actually pretty straightforward. My breading stayed on better after I let the coated rolls rest 5 minutes before searing.

  97. User avatar henrietta.mann says:

What’s with the toothpicks? I just used string! It worked fine.

  98. User avatar jordan.beer1979 says:

I only had pre-sliced cheese and thicker ham. It was messier to roll but tasted great. Sauce/side ideas would help though.

This is the best recipe ever! My family loves it! 😍

    1. 3 stars
Looks good, but isn’t it a bit too dry sometimes? I had trouble once with that.

    2. 5 stars
I totally agree! This recipe is a hit at our dinner table too! 🍽️

Cordon blue? What’s that? Sounds fancy haha!

    1. User avatar boyd.herzog1972 says:

Never heard of it, but sounds complicated. Can’t you just fry the chicken?

    2. User avatar shery.frami27 says:

      5 stars
It’s actually really delicious! You should definitely try making it! 😋

  104. User avatar aaron.steuber says:

    3 stars
I followed the steps exactly and mine still came out kinda dry. I think my chicken breasts were larger than expected. Would marinate next time.

  105. 5 stars
This recipe changed my life! So easy and delicious. My kids loved it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  106. User avatar gordon.tromp9 says:

Cordon bleu? More like cordon boo! I couldn’t get the rolling right and ended up with a mess. Not easy!

    1. User avatar jocelyn.langworth47 says:

      5 stars
Don’t be too hard on yourself! Rolling can be tricky. Maybe try using a cling film next time to help with the shape? It gets easier! 👍

  107. 5 stars
This is the best Cordon Bleu recipe ever! So easy and delicious! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  108. 3 stars
The idea is solid, but I think it’s missing a step: I didn’t get that classic “cordon bleu” bake texture until I did a quick sauce/gravy after. Also toothpicks were annoying lol.

  109. User avatar johnnie.keeling73 says:

    3 stars
Not sure why people call this cordon bleu if there’s no sauce. Still tasty, just not fancy restaurant vibes for me.

  110. User avatar cassidy.volkman says:

    4 stars
Never thought to roll chicken like that! Pretty neat idea! 👍

  111. User avatar Brighton Early says:

Super easy! I used mozzarella instead of Swiss, and it worked great. Will definitely make again!

  112. User avatar Gail Andrews says:

    2 stars
Honestly I’m not convinced this is “cordon bleu” without making a sauce. It’s still tasty though—just calling it something else might be more accurate.

  113. User avatar sofia.heidenreich66 says:

350°F for 20-25 minutes seems short for chicken breast? Mine was barely done after 20, so I added another 8 minutes. Use a thermometer, folks.

Took you a while? It’s just chicken and ham, how hard can it be? 🤔

  115. User avatar dulcie.will says:

Tastes amazing! I added garlic powder to the breadcrumbs, 10/10 would recommend!

  116. User avatar shoshana.sauer1 says:

Yum! I made this for dinner and my family loved it. Gonna try with different cheeses next time.

  117. User avatar Tommie Gulgowski says:

    4 stars
Really solid instructions, though I had to cook mine closer to 35 minutes at 350°F. Chicken thickness matters a lot.

  118. 4 stars
I didn’t have Swiss cheese, so I used Cheddar. Still turned out great! 😋

  119. User avatar jene.barton says:

Yum, this was fantastic with some marinara on top! 5 stars!

  120. User avatar trey.kulas2010 says:

I’ve never been good at pounding chicken evenly, but I still followed the steps and the roll-up worked. Next time I’ll tie it more securely so it doesn’t shift while breading.

    1. 5 stars
Nice! I’ve also struggled with even pounding, but your note about tying it tighter makes total sense—mine usually shifts during breading if I don’t secure it well.

    2. User avatar tyrone.satterfield59 says:

      3 stars
I tried something like this before… my breading fell off hard 😅 maybe because I didn’t let the seared rolls rest? also 350°F seems low? could’ve been 450?? not sure but it was still tasty.

  121. User avatar keshia.shields1989 says:

    5 stars
This turned out way better than I expected—crispy outside, juicy inside. I used panko and it stayed crunchy even after baking.

    1. User avatar erik.harris53 says:

      3 stars
Huh, mine never stays crunchy after baking… I’m probably doing something wrong. Did you bake on a rack or just in a dish? Also 20-25 min at 350°F sounds kinda short to me for chicken.

    2. 5 stars
Yes!! I’ve had panko go soft in other bakes, so that’s awesome it stayed crunchy for you. Crispy outside + juicy inside is exactly what I want with this.

  122. User avatar sam.marks1954 says:

    5 stars
This tastes way better than I expected—crispy outside, really juicy inside. I used regular breadcrumbs and it still worked. Next time I’ll bake on a rack for extra crunch.

    1. User avatar america.swaniawski13 says:

      3 stars
Hmm I’m not sure about the 350°F for only 20-25 min—depends how thick your breasts are. Mine needed longer to cook through. Still tasty though. Also, I didn’t use a rack and it was a little soggy on the bottom.

    2. 5 stars
Totally agree! Mine came out crispy on the outside and super juicy inside too. I also didn’t have panko and just used what I had—worked great. Baking it on a rack is such a good idea for extra crunch 👌

  123. User avatar ellis.connelly says:

    1 star
2 slices? Seriously? That seems like way too little for an adult meal. I need more meat!

    1. 3 stars
Honestly, 2 slices is normal for fancy restaurants. Maybe you can have a side dish with it? Like veggies?

    2. User avatar karyl.klocko29 says:

      5 stars
I totally get you! I always add an extra chicken breast when I make this. More meat means more yum! 🍗

  124. User avatar Miss Eneida Koss says:

    2 stars
350°F for 20-25 minutes—maybe for thin pieces. My chicken was thicker and it needed way longer. Otherwise, nice idea though.

  125. User avatar Samwise Gamgee says:

    4 stars
1/2 cup flour + 1 cup breadcrumbs felt like too much for only 2 breasts, but I guess better extra than not enough. Texture was nice.

  126. User avatar shirley.kassulke44 says:

    5 stars
Amazing! I swear I could hear the cheese melt inside. Followed temps and it came out perfect. 5/5.

    1. User avatar tommy.adams2017 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! That melty cheese moment is the best part 😄 I love that you followed the temps too—mine sometimes goes sideways when I rush. Glad it came out perfect!

    2. 3 stars
Hmm I tried cordon bleu once and the cheese leaked out so I was sad. Do you actually bake it long enough, like 25 mins, or does the oven temp need to be hotter? Also do you salt the chicken before rolling?

  127. 2 stars
I tried this and it was kinda bland. Like, flavor was missing even with salt/pepper. I think it needs Dijon or a little sauce to really shine.

  128. 5 stars
This came out super crispy on the outside and juicy inside—exactly what I wanted. The Swiss + ham combo is such a classic. I’ll definitely make it again.

  129. User avatar theodore.glover says:

    5 stars
This looks legit. I love that it’s baked after searing—keeps it crisp without drying out. Going to try with Panko for extra crunch!

    1. User avatar elinore.stiedemann says:

      4 stars
Panko might be good, but I’m worried it’ll burn at 350°F if the rolls are too close to the top. Maybe cover with foil if it browns fast? Also, I’d try thinner ham so the cheese melts easier.

    2. 5 stars
Totally agree—baking after searing is the sweet spot. The crisp stays crunchy and it doesn’t end up tough. Let me know how it comes out with Panko!

  130. User avatar Miss Janyce Mertz says:

    2 stars
This recipe seems simple, but it’s really just chicken wrapped in ham. Is that something special?

  131. User avatar shirley.schimmel1965 says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, the toothpick part stresses me out 😂 But it worked. I did run out of panko so used regular breadcrumbs and it was still good.

  132. User avatar marcia.mann says:

    4 stars
I swapped the Swiss for mozzarella, not the same but still good!

    1. User avatar fredericka.aufderhar94 says:

      3 stars
Mozzarella? Really? I can’t imagine it tasting the same. But hey, if you liked it, that’s what matters!

  133. 4 stars
I’m skeptical about the breadcrumbs staying crunchy after oven time… but honestly it was decent. The searing helps a lot. Great comfort food.

    1. User avatar norman.stracke says:

      4 stars
Honestly I used regular breadcrumbs once and they got soft, so I get the skepticism 😅 Panko really does help though. Searing + baking is the sweet spot—nice comfort food call!

  134. User avatar Pasta Fasta says:

    2 stars
My coating fell off a bit when I seared it. Maybe the chicken wasn’t dry enough after pounding? Flavor was still good.

    1. 4 stars
Totally makes sense—if the chicken was even a little wet, the egg/breading can’t really grip after the sear. Next time, try patting it REALLY dry after pounding, and also let the breaded rolls sit 3–5 minutes before going into the pan.

  135. User avatar hyo.kshlerin says:

    3 stars
I tried this but it didn’t turn out as good as expected. My chicken was too dry. Maybe I cooked it too long?

  136. User avatar Pizpot Gargravarr says:

    2 stars
Okay I messed up and forgot to pound the chicken evenly… still turned out edible but one roll was uneven and the coating fell off a bit. Learn from me, pound it!

  137. 2 stars
Honestly, cordon bleu is usually more work than this but this recipe is still kinda annoying. Toothpicks were a pain and the breading fell off a bit. I ate it anyway 😅

  138. User avatar ginny.sporer3 says:

    3 stars
I don’t know about the ham, seems a bit odd on chicken. Is this really traditional?

  139. User avatar celestina.rath2020 says:

    5 stars
OMG, this is like my favorite dish! Crunchy on the outside, melty on the inside 😍. Will make again for sure!

  140. User avatar nita.friesen says:

    4 stars
Toothpicks everywhere lol. Taste was good though—ham + Swiss is a great combo. Would make again.

    1. 5 stars
Haha yeah the toothpicks were a workout 😅 But I agree—ham + Swiss hits every time. I’m making this again!

    2. 4 stars
Taste was fine, but 20–25 min at 350°F felt kinda short for me. Also I used regular breadcrumbs and it got a bit soggy—next time I’ll do panko. Still, good idea overall.

  141. 3 stars
Followed the recipe, but the chicken was a bit dry. Maybe less time baking? 🤷‍♂️

    1. 4 stars
Yeah, I think 20 minutes is too long! Mine was a bit dry too. Try 15 next time! 👍

    2. User avatar vance.schmeler0 says:

      3 stars
I make it all the time and never had that problem. Must be the chicken. 🤔

  142. User avatar rich.kuhic80 says:

    5 stars
This recipe is fantastic! The chicken is so juicy and the ham and cheese just melt in your mouth. I’m making it again for dinner tonight!

    1. 5 stars
I tried this recipe and it turned out great! The chicken was so tender, and I love how easy it is to make. Thanks for sharing!

  143. User avatar Heimerdinger says:

    5 stars
My kids inhaled it. The sear step is legit—golden outside, juicy inside. I used regular breadcrumbs instead of panko and it was still good.

  144. User avatar joe_banana says:

    2 stars
Honestly, the prep is a lot of work for one dinner. If you’re tired, this is not the move—unless you really like breading stuff.

  145. User avatar avery.dach41 says:

    3 stars
Roll the chicken, roll it tight or it spills out! I learned the hard way!

  146. 3 stars
I’m not sure about the order: flour then egg then breadcrumbs… Isn’t it usually flour-egg-breadcrumb? I mean, you wrote that so maybe I’m confused.

  147. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    2 stars
This thing is just fancy fried chicken, why not just call it that? 😒

  148. 4 stars
Not bad at all, but 350°F felt a bit low for my thick rolls. I had to bake closer to 30 minutes. Still delicious though.

  149. User avatar paris.wolf says:

    5 stars
This recipe is amazing! The chicken turned out so juicy. Definitely a keeper!

  150. User avatar chase.harber1979 says:

    5 stars
Do not skip pounding the chicken! Mine was uneven at first and the roll didn’t cook evenly. After I fixed that, the results were way better.

  151. User avatar lavera.stark says:

    5 stars
Made this last night—so crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The panko really helps. I used a little extra pepper and it was perfect.

  152. User avatar Mark A. Roni says:

    3 stars
I’m skeptical about the toothpicks. Mine slid out during searing and I had cheese leaks everywhere lol. Flavor was good, presentation was not.

    1. User avatar odell.morar63 says:

      4 stars
Totally get the toothpick issue—mine did that once too when I seared too aggressively. I started using 2 toothpicks each roll and making sure the roll is really tight before dredging, plus I let them sit in the fridge 10 minutes before searing. Sorry about the cheese leak 😂 but glad the flavor still hit!

  153. User avatar leon.bernhard87 says:

    2 stars
I cooked mine too long and it got a little dry. Maybe my oven runs hot. Still tasted like cordon bleu should, just not juicy.

    1. User avatar Wonko the Sane says:

      4 stars
Yeah, 20–25 min can definitely dry them out if your oven runs hot. Next time try pulling them at like 18–20 and cover loosely with foil if they’re browning too fast. Did you check the internal temp?

  154. User avatar richie.fisher68 says:

    3 stars
Pretty good, but mine was a bit dry on the inside. I think I baked a couple minutes too long. Next time I’ll check temp earlier—350°F is fine, just watch it.

  155. User avatar Zaphod Beeblebrox says:

    4 stars
Cordon Bleu is supposed to be fancy, and this tasted like something I’d order out. The only issue: no sauce mentioned, so it felt a bit dry.

  156. User avatar kermit.towne59 says:

    5 stars
This is an excellent recipe! Simple ingredients, clear steps, and it tastes like a restaurant version. I served it with mashed potatoes and wow.

  157. User avatar buster.dare9 says:

    5 stars
This turned out sooo good—crispy outside, melty cheese inside. I didn’t have toothpicks so I used kitchen twine for a bit and it worked!

  158. User avatar dong.krajcik96 says:

    4 stars
Pretty tasty, but mine leaked a little cheese (rookie mistake with the roll). Next time I’ll tighten it more and maybe chill the rolls before baking. Still worth it.

    1. 5 stars
Glad you liked it! Cheese leakage is super common if the roll isn’t sealed—tightening + chilling before baking sounds like a great fix.

  159. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    5 stars
Pounding the chicken to even thickness is key, and I actually noticed it made the sear/bake more consistent. Will make again!

  160. User avatar Bowerick Wowbagger says:

    3 stars
I followed it mostly but mine was kinda dry. Next time I’ll pound thinner and not over-sear.

  161. User avatar ambrose.lowe71 says:

    3 stars
Ok but how do you pound chicken? I just touched it till it looked thin enough & it worked. LOL!

  162. User avatar Yajirobe says:

    4 stars
    Yum. Simple.

    1. User avatar herschel.harris86 says:

      5 stars
Right? “Simple” is the best way to describe it—crispy outside, gooey inside. 😋

  163. User avatar jazmin.volkman40 says:

    5 stars
    Five stars. That’s it. 😂

    1. User avatar felton.wiegand1986 says:

      5 stars
      😂 Agreed—this one’s a straight-up crowd-pleaser. Did you bake yours at 350°F like the instructions?

  164. 4 stars
I was skeptical about how 20-25 minutes would fully cook chicken rolls, but it worked. I just made sure my rolls weren’t too thick and checked the internal temp.

    1. User avatar winfred.wolf33 says:

      4 stars
20-25 min seems short tbh. My rolls take longer, and mine get dry if i undercook them—maybe my rolls be too thick 😅 but still, temp probe should be mandatory.

    2. User avatar garfield.bednar62 says:

      5 stars
I’m with you—time charts can be wildly off for chicken. Your internal temp check is the key. I usually aim for 165°F (74°C) and it’s perfect.

  165. User avatar hyun.mclaughlin64 says:

    2 stars
I followed it exactly and the coating fell off during searing. I’m not sure if I should’ve patted the chicken dry more or let it rest after egg. Flavor was okay.

  166. 5 stars
This is my go-to when I want something that feels fancy without being impossible. The breadcrumb coating came out really crisp for me.

    1. User avatar frankie.reichert84 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—this feels restaurant-y but not intimidating. I also got a really crisp breadcrumb crust when I used panko. Mine stayed crunchy even after slicing (barely).

    2. User avatar Hung Hahn says:

      3 stars
I tried it and it turned out… okay? My crumbs didn’t really stick as well as yours. I think I should’ve pounded the chicken thinner and I maybe rushed the egg step. Still tasty though, just not super crisp.

  167. User avatar oscar.stiedemann54 says:

    4 stars
I followed it pretty much exactly, but 20–25 minutes felt a little short for my chicken. I ended up adding like 10 more and it was perfect.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—20–25 mins can be too tight depending on how thick your breasts are. Glad you added more and nailed it!

  168. 4 stars
Why the toothpicks though? I just tied mine with kitchen twine and it was way less fiddly. Tasted the same.

  169. User avatar lanny.koch64 says:

    4 stars
Nice recipe, but my rolls leaked a little cheese at the seam. Maybe I should’ve pounded thinner or used less filling?

  170. User avatar kraig.oconnell63 says:

    4 stars
Seems like a lot of steps for chicken with ham and cheese, but I guess that’s the point. My kids ate it all, so… worth it.

  171. User avatar craig.lehner8 says:

    4 stars
I messed up the order and did egg before flour once… not recommended lol. But when I got the dredging right it turned out great.

    1. User avatar windy.dickinson says:

      3 stars
I’m not sure I buy that order mattering *that* much. I’ve done it backwards and still got breading… maybe you just needed more crumbs or a dryer chicken. Either way, congrats.

    2. User avatar lily.beer1984 says:

      5 stars
Haha I’ve definitely done that before—eggs first is basically scrambled-breading chaos 😅 Glad you figured out the dredging though. Sounds like it crisped up nicely.

  172. 3 stars
I cooked it 25 minutes and it was just cooked, but not juicy. Next time I’ll check earlier or maybe bake covered for a bit.

  173. 5 stars
Super comforting meal. The breadcrumb crust is crunchy and the ham/cheese combo is perfect. Would definitely make again for guests.

  174. User avatar wellRespected says:

    5 stars
Honestly I think using panko is key—makes it much crunchier. I used regular breadcrumbs once and it was less impressive.

  175. 5 stars
Chicken rolled with ham and cheese is always a win. I did salt/pepper right on the chicken before rolling and it made a difference. Would absolutely make again.

    1. User avatar junior.hayes says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—seasoning the chicken before rolling is key. I do the same with salt/pepper and it never comes out bland. 👍 Would make again for sure!

  176. 4 stars
Pretty solid recipe. Not really “cordon bleu” like restaurant style though—mine was more like schnitzel roll-up. I’ll do it again, just with a sauce next time (maybe dijon).

  177. User avatar hipolito.ledner32 says:

    5 stars
This turned out super tasty! The breading stayed crisp even after baking, and the ham + Swiss combo is perfect. I did add a little garlic powder to the breadcrumbs and it was even better.

    1. User avatar Ms. Eduardo Watsica says:

      5 stars
Awesome! I love hearing that the breading stayed crisp—mine always ends up a little soggy unless I’m careful. Garlic powder in the breadcrumbs sounds like a great upgrade.
