Turkey Quinoa Meatloaf

January 10, 2025

This healthy and flavorful turkey quinoa meatloaf is perfect as a main course. Made with ground turkey, quinoa, and a blend of seasonings, it offers a nutritious twist on a classic comfort food.

Turkey quinoa meatloaf is a lighter, protein-packed version of the beloved traditional meatloaf, offering all the comfort without the heaviness. By swapping out ground beef for lean ground turkey and using quinoa instead of breadcrumbs, this modern take is both nutritious and flavorful. It’s the kind of dish that delivers on taste while sneaking in a few healthy upgrades, making it a smart choice for weeknight dinners or meal prep.

What makes this meatloaf special is its texture and balance. Ground turkey provides a lean, mild base that’s tender and moist, especially when combined with cooked quinoa, which helps hold everything together while adding a subtle nuttiness. The quinoa also boosts the protein and fiber content, making each serving more satisfying.

The flavor is built with a mix of classic aromatics like garlic, onions, and herbs, along with a touch of tomato paste or ketchup for moisture and tang. Some versions include finely chopped vegetables like carrots or zucchini, which add natural sweetness and an extra layer of nutrition without being too obvious.

A simple glaze made from ketchup, mustard, or even a touch of maple syrup adds a glossy, flavorful finish to the top of the loaf. Once baked, the meatloaf slices beautifully and holds its shape, with a golden exterior and juicy, tender interior.

Turkey quinoa meatloaf pairs well with classic sides like mashed potatoes, green beans, or a crisp salad. It’s also fantastic as leftovers, either reheated or served cold in sandwiches. This version of meatloaf proves that comfort food doesn’t have to be heavy to be satisfying. It’s familiar, hearty, and full of feel-good ingredients that make you want to come back for seconds – a true win for anyone looking to eat well without sacrificing flavor.

This meatloaf was surprisingly good! Never thought I’d like quinoa in it. 👍

Simple and healthy, but kinda bland. I added some chili flakes for a kick! 🌶️

  3. 2 stars
Tried it and was disappointed. The quinoa didn’t mix well with the turkey. Maybe I’ll stick to traditional meatloaf.

    1. User avatar lolita.dickinson65 says:

      2 stars
Honestly, meatloaf should just be meat, right? Quinoa is overrated! I’ve tried it and sticking to just meat works better for me.

    2. User avatar fidel.upton53 says:

      4 stars
I totally get you! Quinoa can be a weird texture sometimes. Maybe try it with brown rice next time? I think it might blend better!

  4. User avatar jesusa.davis36 says:

Yum! Even my kiddos loved it. It’s a keeper for sure! 😍

Meatloaf? Sounds kinda boring to me. 🤔

    2. User avatar Cyrus Bartoletti says:

That’s awesome to hear! Kids can be picky eaters, so this is a real win! 😊

  5. User avatar mao.kessler1981 says:

I’m skeptical about quinoa—thought it would make it grainy, but nope. It blends in really well.

  6. 2 stars
Ugh, my meatloaf fell apart! What did I do wrong? Followed the recipe exactly. 😩

  7. User avatar renetta.sawayn55 says:

    5 stars
Made this for dinner and it came out juicy. The quinoa gives it a really nice texture—won’t go back to regular meatloaf now. 👍

  8. User avatar salina.abbott21 says:

Great for meal prep! I’ll be making this every week now. Thanks for sharing!

  9. 4 stars
Loved it, but I put too much ketchup, it was too sweet. Next time, less ketchup!

  10. User avatar gustavo.hills1952 says:

    4 stars
Yummy! But where’s the cheese? I think cheese would make it better!

    1. 5 stars
I totally agree! Cheese would elevate this dish for sure! Maybe some mozzarella on top?

  11. User avatar The Allitnils says:

    3 stars
I tried makin’ this and it turned out kinda dry. Maybe I overcooked it? Idk.

    1. User avatar gavin.hirthe1992 says:

      4 stars
Yeah, that can happen if you cook it too long. Maybe try checking the temp earlier next time?

  12. User avatar ALTplusF4 says:

    5 stars
Yummy! I added some mushrooms and it was great! Gonna make it again for sure!

    1. User avatar marian.klocko82 says:

      2 stars
I dunno. Mushrooms in meatloaf sounds weird. Isn’t that too many textures? Just stick to the original, maybe.

    2. User avatar ronny.koepp30 says:

      5 stars
Mushrooms? That’s a cool twist! I love experimenting with recipes. Can’t wait to try it like that!

  13. User avatar ferne.turner91 says:

    4 stars
Pretty tasty, but my loaf took longer than 45 minutes. I hit 165°F after about 60 minutes, so keep an eye on the temp (old oven problems lol).

    1. User avatar deneen.funk42 says:

      4 stars
Mine took like forever too 😅 think my oven runs cold. I just bake til it hits temp like you said. 45 min seems like a lie sometimes lol.

    2. User avatar valentine.trantow1975 says:

      5 stars
Good call! 165°F is the real timer—ovens vary so much. I usually start checking around 45 and then again at 55-60. Also worth letting it rest a bit so it slices clean.

  14. User avatar mitchell.gutmann2 says:

    5 stars
This recipe is fantastic! I never thought quinoa could work in meatloaf, but it came out so moist and flavorfull.

  15. User avatar darin.mante90 says:

    2 stars
Too much ketchup for my taste honestly, tried to make a BBQ version but still felt off!

    1. User avatar tyrell.schaefer60 says:

      4 stars
I think the ketchup is what makes it moist! But you can always reduce it if you want less sweetness.

    2. User avatar mariam.lesch says:

      3 stars
BBQ version sounds interesting! But meatloaf without ketchup is just… weird.

  16. User avatar shera.borer says:

I was skeptical about quinoa in meatloaf, but it turned out great. The loaf stayed juicy and sliced nicely. I used a little extra garlic too.

    1. User avatar chauncey.adams61 says:

      5 stars
I had the same worry about quinoa—like it wouldn’t bind right—but this makes me want to try it. Juicy meatloaf sounds exactly right, and extra garlic is always a win 😄

    2. User avatar Gail Andrews says:

      3 stars
Quinoa in meatloaf?? I mean… I guess if it slices nice. Did you cook the quinoa fully first or keep it kinda firm? Also 45 mins seems short for 1 lb turkey in a loaf pan, but maybe oven temps vary.

  17. User avatar josue.wiza4 says:

    5 stars
Made this last night—super moist and the quinoa is a nice change from regular breadcrumbs. I used a little extra garlic too. Would definitely make again!

  18. 1 star
Meatloaf should never have quinoa. Just sayin’.

  19. User avatar Gandalf the Grey says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I prefer regular beef meatloaf. The quinoa makes it too chewy for my taste.

  20. 2 stars
Who puts quinoa in meatloaf? This is not normal! I prefer the classic way. 😒

    1. User avatar dulcie.kovacek says:

      5 stars
I think quinoa adds a nice texture and nutrition boost! It’s not so weird, just different. Give it a try! 😊

    2. 2 stars
That’s not classic! Meatloaf should be all meat, not some weird grains. What’s wrong with the good old beef?!

  21. User avatar barrett.emmerich30 says:

    5 stars
Great alternative to beef! Healthy too. I added some cheese on top and it was yummy. 10/10 would recommend!

  22. User avatar edmund.corkery88 says:

    5 stars
Loved how healthy it was! Definitely a keeper. Quinoa for life! 🍴

  23. 5 stars
Delicious recipe! My kids loved it, and they usually hate veggies. Gonna make it again!

  24. User avatar soon.denesik63 says:

I was skeptical at first, but this meatloaf is actually really good! My kids loved it too. 5 stars!

  25. 4 stars
Meatloaf? I thought it was a casserole, lol. 🤷‍♂️ But it was good either way.

    1. User avatar lottie.howell24 says:

      4 stars
Haha! I can see how it looks like a casserole! Glad you enjoyed it! 😄

  26. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    4 stars
Pretty tasty, but I think 45 minutes might be short depending on your loaf pan size. I had to bake closer to 55 to hit 165°F.

  27. 2 stars
I found the quinoa a bit odd in meatloaf. Not sure it fits. Maybe stick to breadcrumbs?

  28. User avatar elli.collier1968 says:

    4 stars
So easy to make! I even added some peppers to the mix. Turned out delish! A hit for the whole family!

    1. User avatar annamae.pagac80 says:

      2 stars
Meatloaf with quinoa? Is that really good? I don’t know, that sounds weird…

    2. User avatar Michael83 says:

      4 stars
Sounds great! I’m gonna try it with some jalapenos next time. Thanks for the tip!

  29. User avatar magaly.reichel says:

    3 stars
Too much onion for my taste. Next time I’ll cut it in half.

  30. User avatar viki.lind1982 says:

    2 stars
Is turkey meatloaf really that good? Seems like a cheap option to me. Don’t know if I trust this.

  31. User avatar gwen.anderson23 says:

    3 stars
Ketchup on top is fine, but I would’ve loved a glaze with some brown sugar. Mine tasted a bit too tangy straight ketchup.

  32. User avatar rebbecca.parker91 says:

    3 stars
Meh, just another meatloaf. Nothing special. Might stick with the classic.

  33. User avatar porfirio.schneider says:

    3 stars
It took longer than 45 mins for it to cook, had to check it a few times. But tasted ok. I’m not gonna make it again tho.

    1. User avatar temika.robel58 says:

      5 stars
Not sure why it took longer for you. I made it and it was super easy! Will definitely make again!

    2. User avatar luigi.abshire53 says:

      4 stars
I found it cooking fine in 45 mins! Maybe your oven is a bit off? 😕

  34. User avatar shirlee.hills2025 says:

    2 stars
Honestly, my kids wouldn’t eat it. Said the quinoa was weird in meatloaf. I thought it was just ok.

    1. User avatar rueben.casper1963 says:

      3 stars
My kids didn’t like it either! They said the quinoa made it taste funny. I think it could be better without it.

  35. User avatar sherrie.hamill says:

    2 stars
Honestly the texture was a little dry for me. I think I packed the loaf too tightly and didn’t have enough fat in the turkey (used lean).

  36. 3 stars
I didn’t have Worcestershire sauce, so I used soy sauce. It was fine, but I think I need to try it again with the right ingredients!

  37. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

    5 stars
Turkey meatloaf? Never thought I’d see the day! But honestly, it turned out great!

  38. 4 stars
Meatloaf is usually boring, but this recipe is really fun! Love the quinoa twist!

    1. User avatar maryanna.kassulke81 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! This meatloaf is way more interesting than the plain kind. Quinoa is such a great idea!

    2. User avatar annalisa.bartoletti says:

      2 stars
Not sure about this. Meatloaf is meant to be classic, not fancy. Quinoa? Really?

  39. User avatar marita.gleason says:

    4 stars
I wasn’t sure about adding quinoa, but it actually held the meatloaf together well. Gonna make it again!

  40. 3 stars
I dunno, meatloaf is just… meatloaf? Can’t believe people put quinoa in it. I’m skeptical.
