Pork Chop Murphy

August 6, 2024

Pork Chop Murphy is a hearty, flavorful dish rooted in Italian-American home cooking. It brings together juicy bone-in pork chops, sautéed bell peppers, potatoes, and a kick of heat from hot cherry peppers. Everything simmers in a light, savory white broth, making a perfect sauce that brings all the bold flavors together in one satisfying skillet.

This dish is a celebration of contrasts. The pork chops are seared until golden brown, creating a crisp outer layer that locks in their juices. Meanwhile, the vegetables soften and caramelize, releasing sweetness that balances the tang and spice of the cherry peppers. The broth ties everything together, giving the dish a rich depth without feeling heavy.

Pork Chop Murphy is one of those meals that feels like it came from a cozy neighborhood Italian restaurant. It’s rustic, colorful, and packed with flavor. The cherry peppers are the key to the dish’s signature zing. They add just enough heat to keep things interesting without overpowering the rest of the ingredients. If you’re not into spicy food, you can use mild peppers or reduce the amount to suit your taste.

This dish is best served with a simple side to soak up the sauce. Crusty bread, roasted potatoes, or even a bowl of buttery pasta all work beautifully. It’s a great dinner idea for family meals or casual dinner parties, especially when you want something comforting but a little unexpected.

Pork Chop Murphy may not be as widely known as other Italian-American staples, but once you try it, it’s bound to become a favorite. It’s easy enough to make on a weeknight but flavorful enough to feel like a special occasion.

This sounds delicious—cherry peppers with pork is such a good combo. I’d probably add a pinch of smoked paprika too.

  2. User avatar katina.fisher90 says:

Cooked this last night. My husband said it was the best meal I’ve made in ages! Thanks!

  3. 3 stars
The ingredient list says “1 green pepper” and then again “1 green pepper (mashed or chopped)”—so do you use two peppers or just one twice?

  4. 3 stars
I tried this recipe but found it a bit bland. I think it needs more seasoning or something. 😕

  5. User avatar stevie.kassulke19 says:

    2 stars
I think this is missing…something. My chops came out dry. Not sure if I’ll try again. ⭐⭐

  6. User avatar benedict.kessler64 says:

This recipe was so easy and delicious! My family loved it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

    1. 5 stars
Glad to hear it! We will try this recipe soon! Sounds yummy! 😊

  7. 4 stars
Mmm, this is what I call comfort food! 😍 My kids even liked it, and they usually hate everything.

  8. 3 stars
Came out a bit greasy. Next time I’ll drain the oil more. But still edible.

  9. User avatar foster.brown86 says:

    2 stars
Not gonna lie, I’m skeptical about frying potatoes separately then adding them—seems like they’d get soggy. But maybe only 3 minutes keeps them crisp enough?

  10. User avatar sharen.hane10 says:

    2 stars
umm ok recipe. potatoes fried in separate pan is a lot of work but i guess it tastes better 😅

  11. User avatar luana.schinner66 says:

    1 star
Ugh! This was way more complicated than I thought. Took me an hour and I nearly burned the chops! Never again! 😩

  12. 4 stars
Not gonna lie, I don’t have cherry peppers, so I used banana peppers. Still came out good though. The crispy potatoes part is clutch.

  13. 3 stars
7 minutes simmer for pork chops feels a little short to me? Unless they’re thin cuts. I’d probably check internal temp and not trust the clock.

  14. User avatar william.bechtelar22 says:

    5 stars
This recipe is fantastic! The cherry peppers add such a nice kick. Will make it again for sure!

  15. User avatar bart.brakus1971 says:

    5 stars
The instructions are pretty straightforward. Also, 1 clove garlic is perfect—anything more usually overpowers the pepper flavor.

    1. User avatar beau.wyman7 says:

      5 stars
Agreed—my garlic always steals the show if I go heavy. 1 clove feels just right here, especially with the peppery vibe.

  16. User avatar ethan.spinka2010 says:

    2 stars
Just okay. The process was confusing and I messed up the potatoes. Maybe if I read better…

    1. User avatar Loren Nader says:

      4 stars
I totally get it! The recipe can be easy to mix up. Next time maybe try prepping everything before starting? It might help! 🍽️

  17. User avatar raphael.ziemann45 says:

I don’t know about “broth from the jar”—is that like marinating juice? Sounds messy lol but maybe good.

    1. User avatar trinidad.mann48 says:

      5 stars
lol not messy! It’s more like quick flavor/backup for the simmer. I’d actually use it since the recipe is only simmering 7 minutes.

    2. 4 stars
Yeah pretty much—“broth from the jar” is just jarred broth, not like a marinade. Still, if it’s salty, go easy on the salt you add.

  18. 2 stars
Never seen green pepper mashed before, seems weird. I’d just chop it like normal, right? 🤔

  19. User avatar sharan.yost87 says:

    5 stars
Honestly, the whole “fry potato slices separately then toss in” is genius. Makes it crispy without turning everything soggy.

    1. User avatar Falmer Gloomlurker says:

      5 stars
Yes!! Separate pan for the potatoes is the move. Keeps the chops saucy and the spuds actually crispy. 🙌

  20. User avatar dario.rath66 says:

    5 stars
DELICIOUS! I added some cheese on top and broiled it for a few mins! Yum!

  21. User avatar debbra.doyle65 says:

    4 stars
Pork chops with potatoes? Who knew? I just threw in some garlic powder and it was delish! Will def make again!

    1. User avatar roselia.bosco says:

      2 stars
Pork and potatoes? Kind of boring, don’t you think? There are so many other combos out there.

    2. 5 stars
I never thought of adding garlic powder! Sounds like a winner, I’ll try that next time.

  22. User avatar scotty.mann52 says:

    3 stars
Too much broth! Next time I do it, less broth for sure. ⭐⭐⭐

  23. 5 stars
    One word: Delicious! 🥳

    1. User avatar ArabianNights says:

      3 stars
Looks good but my friend tried a pork recipe before and it turned out bad. How can I be sure this one is good?

    2. 5 stars
I made this last night and it was a hit! My family loved it. Thank you!

  24. User avatar irma.senger55 says:

    2 stars
Um, why are there two green peppers? I just chopped one and it was fine. Confusing! 🙄

  25. User avatar chandra.johns says:

    3 stars
I don’t get why you gotta use two green peppers. Seemed excessive to me 🤔

  26. User avatar therese.dicki21 says:

    5 stars
This was sooo goood! I love the cherry peppers. Thanks for the recipe!

  27. User avatar guy.labadie1975 says:

    2 stars
Not sure why it says 1 tab of cherry pepper, is that a typo? I used a whole one and it was still bland.

  28. User avatar eddy.wiza15 says:

    3 stars
Not sure why it’s called Murphy? It’s just pork and peppers. Tasted okay tho.

  29. 3 stars
Is it normal to eat pork with cherry peppers? Sounds weird but I tried it anyway.

  30. User avatar ulrike.kemmer19 says:

    3 stars
I’m skeptical about using chicken broth with pork. Aren’t they different flavors? But I might give it a try.

  31. User avatar Effrafax of Wug says:

    4 stars
The steps are clear, and browning the chops first really helps. I used red onion and it still worked great. Would make again for sure.

    1. User avatar doyle.gusikowski96 says:

      4 stars
Glad it worked for you! I might’ve overcooked the potatoes the first time though 😅 Still tasty, just not as crispy.

    2. 5 stars
Totally agree—browning the chops first makes a huge difference. I’m making this again this week!

  32. 5 stars
Five stars! I made this and the crispy potatoes were the best part. Next time I’ll use a little extra broth so it’s saucier.

    1. 4 stars
I tried it but mine got a bit dry—so I think your extra broth idea would fix that. How much more did you add roughly?

    2. User avatar noah.bergstrom1 says:

      5 stars
Love this! The crispy potatoes *are* the move 😄 I also found adding a splash more broth makes it way more flavorful—nice call.

  33. User avatar lynn.tromp58 says:

    5 stars
Wow, this looks amazing! I can already imagine the flavors coming together. Can’t wait to try it!

    1. User avatar elnora.larson10 says:

      3 stars
Looks fancy, but it seems like it would take a while to make. Think it’s worth the effort?

    2. User avatar byron.thiel1995 says:

      5 stars
Thanks! I’m really looking forward to making it. Do you think it would taste good with a side salad?

  34. 5 stars
Yum! Simple and satisfying. Make sure to fry them potatoes good! I added some cheese on top too. ❤️

    1. User avatar stanton.rippin19 says:

      5 stars
I agree! Cheese on top sounds amazing. Perfect way to make it even more delicious! 😋

  35. User avatar nicola.jacobson says:

    4 stars
This was sooo good! I used Russet potatoes instead, and it was still great!

    1. 4 stars
Glad you liked it! Russets are a good swap, but Yukon Golds have that buttery texture that fits perfectly. Did you put extra seasoning? Really enhances the flavor! 😊

  36. 4 stars
I like the Murphy vibe. But “1 green pepper (mashed or chopped)” is kinda ambiguous—do you mash it into a paste or just chop extra fine?

  37. User avatar Kesha Rogahn says:

    3 stars
I didn’t have onion, so just left it out. Still tasty, but should probably follow the recipe lol. ⭐⭐⭐

  38. User avatar omer.muller2021 says:

    5 stars
This was funtastic! I added some mushrooms too. Yum! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

    1. User avatar armandina.considine1950 says:

      5 stars
Sounds delicious! I love that you added mushrooms. I’m gonna try that next time! 😋

  39. User avatar elliott.mayert30 says:

    4 stars
I LOVE anything with cherry peppers, so I’m biased. That said, the recipe reads a little rough—like the measurements aren’t consistent (chicken broth says 1/2 cup but then “from the jar”?). Still, it tasted great and I’d make it again.

  40. 3 stars
Pretty good but I think it needs some more spices. A bit eh for me. Next time I might add some paprika!

  41. User avatar shameka.farrell4 says:

    5 stars
This recipe is so easy to follow! I made it last night and my family loved it. The cherry peppers add a nice kick. 😊

  42. User avatar claud.doyle says:

    2 stars
I dunno, seems like a lot of work for some pork chops. Why not just grill them? 🤷‍♂️

  43. User avatar debi.volkman33 says:

    2 stars
Did you even cook it right? LOL, like how can you mess up a pork chop?

    1. User avatar cher.kihn says:

      3 stars
I mean, it’s pork chops! You literally just cook them until they’re not pink anymore. How hard can it be? 🤷‍♀️

  44. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    3 stars
I don’t like pork chops 😒 but my husband loved it. So, I guess it’s fine? ⭐⭐⭐

  45. User avatar salvador.rowe says:

    1 star
What’s with using chicken broth? Isn’t this a pork dish?? I used beef broth and it turned out fine.

    1. 4 stars
Honestly, chicken broth is super common in many recipes. It’s just a base for flavor. But hey, if beef worked for you, that’s cool! Everyone has their own twist, right?

  46. User avatar hollis.white11 says:

    4 stars
I tried something similar years ago and it was so good. Question though: when it says 1 green pepper twice—do you really use both mashed/chopped and then chopped again? Either way, I’m sold.

    1. User avatar Gurney Halleck says:

      4 stars
I always wondered this too. I think the recipe means: 1 green pepper chopped for cooking with the pork, and the other (second 1/2-ish) green pepper mashed/chopped to thicken the vibe. Otherwise it’s a typo… but I’ve made it both ways and it’s still good.

    2. User avatar carter.wiza says:

      5 stars
Yes—use the green pepper both ways. I do one batch chopped for the sautée step, then mash/chop the other portion a bit more (for more sauce flavor). If you only have one pepper, just chop it and carry on—still tasty.

  47. User avatar Des Buratto says:

Where’s the sugar? Or is it just me that thinks sweet and spicy should go together? 🍬

  48. User avatar micheline.abshire1960 says:

This recipe is fantastic! My family loved it. The cherry peppers added a nice kick!

  49. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

    2 stars
Followed the recipe precisely but it lacked flavor. Maybe more salt?

  50. User avatar leann.weber says:

    4 stars
I had no cherry peppers, so I used jalapenos. Still came out good, just a bit spicy! 🔥

  51. User avatar jackson.howell34 says:

    3 stars
I’m skeptical about simmering only 7 minutes after browning the chops. Depends on thickness, right? Might need longer to be safe.

  52. User avatar Spider Soldier says:

    4 stars
My partner hates peppers, so I might cut the cherry pepper amount in half. Still, the garlic + broth + peppers combo sounds legit and not too heavy.

    1. User avatar valentine.waters2 says:

      5 stars
That sounds like a perfect tweak—halving the cherry pepper should keep the flavor but take the heat down a notch. The garlic + broth base really does a lot.

  53. User avatar tawna.armstrong32 says:

    4 stars
My family loved this! The potatoes were so crispy and the pork chop was juicy! Will make again!

  54. User avatar palmer.kling says:

    4 stars
Mmm, cherry peppers?! That’s different! I love a spicy kick. Definitely making this soon!

  55. User avatar demetrius.batz says:

    5 stars
Loved the pork chops! My kids ate it all. Will be putting this in my recipe book for regular meals. 🙂

  56. User avatar Genghis Khan says:

    2 stars
Too many steps! I prefer it simple. This took me an hour to do all this!

    1. 4 stars
I get it! Some recipes have way too many steps. I like quick meals too, but this sounds yummy. Maybe try just the pork and potatoes next time?

    2. User avatar jewel.gerhold12 says:

      2 stars
An hour??? That’s insane! I coulda made a whole pizza by then. I ain’t patient for that nonsense!

what r cherry peppers? do regular peppers work? confused 😖

  58. User avatar barrett.jakubowski20 says:

Yukon Golds are the best! But I accidentally used russets and it didn’t turn out the same. 😢

    1. User avatar twana.franecki says:

      4 stars
I feel your pain! Yukon Golds do have that creamy texture. Have you tried a different recipe with russets? They can work sometimes too!

  59. User avatar Mr. Matilde Swaniawski says:

    4 stars
Simple & Delicious! Made it with sweet potato instead of Yukon Gold. Yum!

  60. User avatar magaret.wilderman says:

This recipe is great! I made it last week and my kids loved it. I’m making it again for sure! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  61. User avatar stacy.simonis31 says:

    5 stars
This sounds super cozy and a little spicy—love the cherry pepper idea. I’m definitely trying it with thicker pork chops for extra flavor!

  62. User avatar julian.legros41 says:

    3 stars
I’m not convinced by the “mash the green pepper” bit—mine turned kind of mushy. Still tasty though, just wouldn’t do it that way next time.

  63. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

    3 stars
It turned out good but I had to adjust the seasonings. Too much pepper for my taste. ⭐⭐⭐

    1. 4 stars
I agree, too much pepper can ruin it! I usually just sprinkle a little and taste as I go. 😅

  64. User avatar orlando.dubuque81 says:

    5 stars
Easy peasy and super tasty! Potatoes were crispy just how I like them! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  65. User avatar gaston.ortiz52 says:

    5 stars
This was delicious! The combination of flavors is just perfect. I loved the spicy kick from the cherry peppers.

  66. 3 stars
Could be really good, but my pork chops took longer than 7 minutes to simmer. Also, I didn’t have Yukon Gold so I used russet—still decent but not the same vibe.

  67. User avatar kelley.rogahn59 says:

    2 stars
I don’t know, the recipe looks a bit complicated for just pork chops. I think I’d just grill them next time.

  68. 3 stars
Super easy to make, but my potatoes turned out soggy. Maybe I should’ve let them fry longer?

  69. User avatar ronnie.bechtelar1 says:

    4 stars
Made something similar once; the crispy potatoes on top is the best part. My only tweak would be to salt the chops before browning.

    1. User avatar august.hane says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—the crispy potatoes are the star. I’ve started salting the chops too (even just a few minutes before browning) and it really boosts the flavor.

  70. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    2 stars
This is basically pork + peppers + potatoes… but hey, it works. Would give 5 if the instructions had a note for how hot/long to cook the pork so it’s not dry. My first batch was a little tough.
