Ingredients

  • 2 fillets white fish such as cod or tilapia
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour for coating the fish
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for frying
  • 1 lemon lemon cut into wedges for serving

Instructions

  • Pat the fish fillets dry with a paper towel. This helps the flour stick better.

  • In a shallow dish, combine the flour, salt, and black pepper. Dredge each fish fillet in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.

  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the fish fillets and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.

  • Remove the fillets from the skillet and let them drain briefly on a paper towel-lined plate.
  • Serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side.

Notes

For best results, use firm white fish fillets like cod or tilapia. Pat them completely dry before coating in flour — this helps the fish get that golden, crispy crust when pan-fried in olive oil.
Avoid overcrowding the pan to maintain even heat and prevent steaming. If needed, cook in batches. This recipe works well with a squeeze of lemon juice and a sprinkle of fresh herbs like parsley or dill.
Want a gluten-free option? Substitute all-purpose flour with almond flour or rice flour for equally crispy results.
