Jalapeno Fries with Cheddar

February 1, 2024

If you’re a fan of bold flavors and crave a little heat, jalapeño fries with cheddar might just become your new favorite indulgence. This snack takes everything you love about loaded fries and turns it up a notch with crispy jalapeño strips and gooey melted cheese.

The magic starts with fresh jalapeños. Slice them lengthwise into thin strips, the seeds can be left in for extra heat or removed for a milder experience. Lightly coat them in seasoned flour or a tempura-style batter to give them a delicate crunch once fried or baked. These fries aren’t just spicy, they’re satisfyingly crisp on the outside while keeping a bit of bite inside.

Once the jalapeño fries are cooked to golden perfection, it’s time for the cheddar. A generous sprinkle of shredded sharp cheddar goes a long way. You can pop the tray back into the oven just long enough to melt the cheese and let it seep into every crevice of the fries, creating a gooey, spicy, salty combo that hits all the right notes.

For an extra punch of flavor, consider adding a touch of smoked paprika or garlic powder to the cheese before melting. Or go full-on indulgent with a drizzle of sour cream, a dash of lime juice, or even a scattering of crispy bacon bits.

These fries are perfect for game day snacks, casual gatherings, or even as a side dish with burgers or grilled meats. They’re easy to make, super customizable, and guaranteed to disappear fast once served.

The balance of spicy jalapeños and creamy cheddar makes these fries addictive, each bite delivers a satisfying mix of heat, crunch, and melty goodness. Serve them hot, with a cold drink and maybe a ranch or chipotle mayo dip on the side, and you’ve got a snack that’s far from ordinary.

Jalapeño fries with cheddar aren’t just a twist on traditional fries, they’re a celebration of bold flavors and creative comfort food.

Only 1 tbsp olive oil? Wait no, it says 2 tbsp. Either way I think it needs more oil to coat well. Mine looked dry.

  2. 5 stars
My kids loved these fries! I even added bacon bits, so good!

  3. User avatar myron.romaguera76 says:

I don’t know about the jalapenos. Can’t handle spice. Might try without them.

  4. 3 stars
Too much spice for me. My mouth was on fire! Maybe I’ll try less cayenne next time.

  5. 2 stars
I followed the recipe but they came out mushy. Maybe my oven is broken?

    1. User avatar mary.wolff69 says:

      3 stars
Nah, it’s probably just your oven. Once I had the same problem and got it fixed!

    2. User avatar rosemarie.lind28 says:

      4 stars
Maybe try slicing them thinner next time? Sometimes the thickness can make a big diff!

  6. User avatar porter.wolff88 says:

    4 stars
Pretty solid recipe. 20 + 5 + 5 worked great in my oven, but next time I’ll slice the fries even thinner so they crisp more evenly.

  7. 3 stars
Eh, not my favorite. The cheese kinda went everywhere and they were soggy.

  8. 4 stars
I love jalapenos, so these were a hit for me! Cheddar on top is just divine.

  9. User avatar nannette.hickle says:

Isn’t 400°F too high for fries? I usually do them at 375°F. Just sayin’.

    1. User avatar CTRLplusW says:

      5 stars
I think 400°F is perfect! It gives them that crispy texture. Trust the recipe!

  10. User avatar denny.collins says:

    4 stars
Super tasty combo. I followed the bake times and flipping made a difference. Next time I might par-cook the fries a few minutes longer for more crunch.

  11. User avatar lashawnda.blick43 says:

    4 stars
Pretty solid, but my fries didn’t get as browned after the flip. Next time I’ll cut them even thinner and maybe broil for a minute at the end to crisp up the top.

    1. User avatar trent.funk46 says:

      5 stars
Thanks! Browning can be tricky—thinner fries should help a lot. I like the broil idea at the end too. Did you use a light-colored baking sheet or parchment? That can affect crisping.

    2. 3 stars
Mmm mine also paled after the flip. I think 20 min is not enough. I would try 30 then flip, and skip the broil cuz it burns my cheese quick lol. Still tasted good tho.

  12. User avatar edward.treutel2006 says:

    5 stars
These fries are a game changer! So cheesy and spicy. Yum!

    1. User avatar scott.braun1990 says:

I tried these and they were so good! The cheese melts perfectly. Can’t wait to make them again!

What a great twist on fries! My kids loved them, even with the jalapenos.

    1. 2 stars
Fries with jalapenos? Sounds weird lol. How did they even like that? 🤔

    2. User avatar aubrey.dibbert1998 says:

      5 stars
I’m glad your kids enjoyed them! Jalapenos do add a nice kick!

  14. 4 stars
My family loved them! Perfect side for our BBQ. Thanks for sharing!

  15. User avatar jacqueline.ullrich55 says:

    2 stars
Idk, this seems too complicated for fries. Just fry em like normal!

  16. User avatar Pasta Fasta says:

    2 stars
I prefer regular fries. These are weird. 😒

  17. 3 stars
Not a fan of cilantro, can I skip that part? What’s it for anyway? 😅

  18. User avatar edwardo.cassin2022 says:

    4 stars
I made these but forgot the paprika. Still tasted good though.

  19. User avatar jarvis.okeefe1991 says:

    4 stars
Anyone try adding bacon bits? Sounds good right?

  20. 4 stars
Jalapenos and cheddar? What a combo! I didn’t have paprika, so I used chili powder instead. Still tasty! 🔥

  21. User avatar bryon.huels44 says:

    3 stars
My jalapeños were super spicy so I probably overdid the heat. But the recipe is straightforward and the cheese melted perfectly.

  22. User avatar Zarquon says:

    3 stars
Mine got a little soggy in the middle. I’m blaming my oven (it runs hot), but I’d still reduce toppings until the last step next time.

    1. 3 stars
Maybe it’s the cheese sweating? I’d do the toppings right at step 7 and skip step 6 if your fries are already soft. Also try draining/rinsing the sliced potatoes? (I know that’s not in the recipe.) Could be the pan too—if it’s not hot enough, the middle steams.

    2. 4 stars
Ugh, soggy centers are the worst 😅 But your oven-running-hot idea makes sense—sometimes it throws off the timing. I’d definitely try backing off toppings (or adding the jalapeño/cheese a bit more “at the end” like you said). Also, were your fries fairly thin and fully spread in one layer?

  23. User avatar Twisted Fate says:

    3 stars
Not sure about the garlic/onion powder amount—felt a little overpowering. Also 20+5+5 minutes might be slightly short depending on potato thickness. But overall it was okay and the spice level was manageable.

  24. User avatar jayson.boyle39 says:

    2 stars
I dunno, I thought they would be better. The fries turned out soggy instead of crispy. Maybe I did something wrong…

  25. 5 stars
These jalapeno fries are amazing! The cheese complements the spice perfectly. Will definitely make again. 😍

  26. User avatar alix.keeling98 says:

  29. User avatar Oolon Colluphid says:

Followed the recipe exactly, but mine didn’t turn out that crispy. What did I do wrong?

  30. User avatar Edith McGlynn says:

    2 stars
Fries not looking like the pic. Also, who uses cilantro? That’s gross.

  31. User avatar devorah.nienow47 says:

    4 stars
I’m not usually a “bake fries” person, but this was easy and honestly better than expected. The spices smell amazing.

  32. User avatar Saruman the White says:

    4 stars
My kids loved them! Def making again next weekend.

  33. User avatar CTRLplusW says:

    5 stars
I used sweet potatoes instead of regular ones and they were still great! Just a tip!

  34. User avatar basementDweller says:

    2 stars
Jalapenos don’t go on fries, that’s just wrong. What’s next, ketchup on cereal? 🤔

    1. User avatar Brandy Bottle says:

      4 stars
No way! Fries with jalapenos are great. Ketchup on cereal is just dumb. Try it before you knock it! 😜

    2. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

I actually think jalapenos on fries sound amazing! A little spice never hurt anyone. 😋

  35. User avatar coleman.okeefe69 says:

Absolutely loved these! The jalapenos add such a nice kick. Will definitely make again!

    1. User avatar Roger Overandout says:

      5 stars
Glad you liked them! The jalapenos really do add a great flavor. I can’t wait to make them again too!

    2. User avatar sidney.heller2001 says:

      2 stars
They look good, but I dunno about all that spicy stuff. Can’t handle heat like that. Also, aren’t fries just supposed to be salty? 🤔

  36. User avatar jeneva.weimann99 says:

    3 stars
The flavors are good, but the jalapeños got kind of dried out on top. Might want to add them a little earlier or lightly cover them with cheese.

  37. User avatar scarlet.schamberger1958 says:

    3 stars
Looks good, but can you make it without cheese? My friend is lactose intolerant. But yeah, I love spicy stuff.

    1. User avatar theodore.langworth80 says:

      4 stars
You can just leave out the cheese. Maybe try adding extra jalapeños instead? Spicy!!

  38. User avatar lessie.wisozk17 says:

    4 stars
I skipped the cayenne and added some ranch dressing on the side. Perfect!

  39. User avatar Gail Andrews says:

    5 stars
5 stars! 🔥 Fries with cheese and jalapenos is my favorite thing. Cilantro at the end was a nice touch.

  40. User avatar wayne.corwin25 says:

    5 stars
Super easy and my kids ate them. I used less cayenne because they’re not into spicy.

    1. User avatar Mrs. Alfredo Hill says:

      5 stars
So glad your kids liked them! Cutting back on the cayenne makes sense—jalapeños already bring plenty of heat. Did you still add the jalapeño slices on top, or keep those mild too?

  41. User avatar christeen.macejkovic1968 says:

    3 stars
I dunno… they looked good but I think I overcooked mine. The cheese didn’t melt right…

    1. User avatar kia.kunze73 says:

      4 stars
Don’t worry! Sometimes ovens can be tricky. Maybe try reducing the time next time? You got this!

  42. User avatar april.dooley2025 says:

    2 stars
Sounds good but where’s the ketchup? You need that for fries!

    1. 4 stars
I guess ketchup is a must for fries, lol! But these sound super tasty even without it. Maybe a spicy dip would go well too!

  43. User avatar burl.berge80 says:

    5 stars
So easy to make and healthy! I used olive oil like you said. Great recipe 🙂

  44. User avatar madonna.medhurst says:

    5 stars
No way, jalapeño and cheddar on fries is a classic combo—this is gonna be my go-to snack. Simple and tasty.

  45. User avatar elvin.moen2001 says:

    2 stars
Looks good but 400°F seems kinda low for fries, no? Mine didn’t get much color. Maybe I should’ve used a hotter oven or a convection setting. Still flavorful though!

    1. 4 stars
I get what you mean—400°F is a bit on the gentle side. I usually do 425°F and flip halfway, and they come out way more golden. Maybe your fries were a little thick too?

    2. User avatar ArabianNights says:

      3 stars
Nah, 400°F is fine imo. If they didn’t color, it’s more about spacing—single layer and don’t overcrowd. Also soaking the cut potatoes helps a lot with crisping.

  46. User avatar lorilee.beier2015 says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly and mine came out kinda soggy in the middle. Maybe my fries were too thick? Still tasty, just not that crisp vibe.

  47. User avatar Arthur Philip Deodat says:

    4 stars
Really easy to make! But I think I used too many jalapenos. They were super spicy! 😅

  48. User avatar elsa.casper94 says:

    2 stars
I don’t know about this recipe. Seems a bit too spicy for me. 😬

    1. 4 stars
I understand, but you can always reduce the jalapenos or leave them out. Free to make it your way! 😊

  49. User avatar kellye.zboncak63 says:

    5 stars
These are the best fries ever! So cheesy and spicy! 10/10 would recommend.

  50. User avatar hallie.mosciski says:

    2 stars
Meh, they were okay. More like potato sticks than fries.

  51. 5 stars
    Yummy!

    1. 4 stars
Yummy for sure, but 1 cup cheddar on fries feels like not enough… and 1/2 tsp cayenne might be mild if your jalapeños are weak lol. Still gonna make it though.

    2. 5 stars
Yesss! The combo of cheddar + jalapeño is dangerous (in a good way). I’m trying this ASAP 😋

  52. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

    5 stars
First time frying potatoes and they were complex! Very tasty! #cheese

    1. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

      5 stars
Glad you loved it! Fries are always a hit. Did you add extra cheese? That’s the secret! 🧀

  53. User avatar tiffany.cremin43 says:

    3 stars
Why are we putting jalapenos on fries? Seems kinda weird to me.

    1. User avatar Gaius Helen Mohiam says:

      4 stars
I think jalapenos add a great kick! You should give it a try before you judge. 😊

    2. User avatar Gabriella says:

      2 stars
But fries are supposed to be simple! Why ruin them with peppers? Just stick to cheese!

  54. User avatar Ariel Oberbrunner says:

    3 stars
I messed up the slicing and some fries were thick—those took forever and were kinda soft. On the bright side, the seasoning stuck.

    1. User avatar aaron.considine98 says:

      4 stars
Ugh, thick-cut fries really do take forever 😅 But honestly the seasoning sticking is a win! Next time try aiming for more even, thinner fries so they crisp up better.

    2. User avatar paul.dach1951 says:

      3 stars
Maybe your oven runs cool? I’ve found if the fries start thick they turn soft fast. Still sounds tasty though—cheddar + jalapeño is 🔥. Also did you flip them halfway?

  55. 5 stars
Super easy to make! My kids loved them, and I loved the heat. Thanks for sharing!

    1. User avatar Majikthise says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad to hear your kids loved them! I have to try these with my family. The heat sounds delish!

    2. User avatar graham.kilback46 says:

      3 stars
I didn’t think kids would like spicy stuff, but hey, if yours did, maybe I’ll give it a shot. Sounds fun!

  56. User avatar Grìma Wormtongue says:

    4 stars
Homemade fries??? Easy peasy! I used sweet potatoes instead, just as good! 😋

  57. 5 stars
Made these for the game day and they disappeared so quick! Everyone wanted the recipe.

  58. User avatar markus.gulgowski says:

    1 star
Potatoes, good. Cheese, good. This recpie, not so good. Gonna stick to plain fries.

    1. User avatar alisha.haley11 says:

      5 stars
But plain fries are just… plain. You missin’ out on flavor! Trust me, give these a shot!

    2. User avatar yahaira.skiles76 says:

      4 stars
I dunno, man. Sounds tasty to me! Spicy and cheesy is the way to go. Maybe try again?

  59. User avatar harlan.turner79 says:

    3 stars
Just ok. Would’ve been better if the cheese was more melty. Dissatisfied.

  60. 2 stars
I don’t get it… fries in an oven without soaking? They came out kind of soft for me. I like extra-crispy fries, so this wasn’t it. 🙁

    1. User avatar Cammar Pilru says:

      4 stars
I get your point 😅. Without soaking, the outside can be more “soft potato” than crisp. I’ve found cutting a bit thinner and making sure they’re in a single layer helps a lot—also, if your oven runs cool, 400°F might not be hot enough.

    2. User avatar noble.runte3 says:

      4 stars
Tbh the recipe says bake 20 + 5 + 5 = only 30 mins. For extra-crispy, you might need more time and/or a higher temp (like 425°F) + flipping halfway. Also patting the fries dry after slicing makes a difference.

  61. User avatar carroll.bergstrom says:

    1 star
Paprika with fries? Sounds weird, but I gave it a shot. Too spicy for me though. 1 star.

    1. User avatar tommy.lindgren says:

      4 stars
I think you might have used too much cayenne! Maybe try less next time? I love this recipe!

  62. User avatar winifred.armstrong67 says:

    5 stars
yummy delish 10/10 would fry again.

  63. 4 stars
So easy to make! I forgot cilantro but it didn’t matter. Will try again with it next time.

  64. User avatar arminda.crona80 says:

    3 stars
I think this recipe needs more cheese. Just a bit more. And why cilantro? I don’t like it.

  65. User avatar bennie.jakubowski1957 says:

    2 stars
Uhhh… why flip them at 20 minutes? I didn’t and they stuck a little (maybe my parchment?). Still, jalapeño cheese was incredible.

  66. User avatar Cammar Pilru says:

    3 stars
I don’t know about jalapeno *and* cheddar—sounds like heartburn waiting to happen. Still… it tastes good though 😅

  67. User avatar deneen.jast1963 says:

    5 stars
These fries are AMAZING! The spice level is perfect. I didn’t even need ketchup!

  68. 4 stars
umm… jalapeno fries?? sounds weird but i tryed it and wow.

  69. User avatar dale.bogisich says:

    5 stars
These jalapeno fries are amazing! So cheesy and spicy! Definitely a keeper.

  70. User avatar irish.hand2000 says:

    5 stars
Cheddar on fries is always a win. The cilantro at the end gave it that fresh kick. I’d try adding a squeeze of lime too.

  71. 1 star
Are jalapenos even spicy? I didn’t think they were. Mine turned out bland.

  72. 3 stars
I don’t think the jalapenos add much. Should stick to plain fries with cheese.

    1. User avatar Rod N. Reel says:

      5 stars
I totally disagree! The jalapenos give it a nice kick! Plain cheese fries are boring! 🙄

  73. User avatar basementDweller says:

    5 stars
These turned out way better than I expected. The cayenne + jalapeño combo is legit, and the cheddar gets all melty. I added a little extra paprika next time—highly recommend.

    1. User avatar cecil.deckow says:

      5 stars
Agree! I was skeptical about the cayenne/jalapeño mix but it really wakes them up. I also like adding a tiny squeeze of lime after—makes the cheddar taste even better.

  74. 4 stars
Easy recipe! I didn’t have fresh cilantro, but used dried. Still turned out good!

  75. 5 stars
Not gonna lie, I was worried about only 20+5+5 minutes, but they actually browned nicely. The seasoning is spot on—garlic powder and paprika combo is doing the heavy lifting.

  76. User avatar Frostbite Spider says:

    1 star
I think regular fries are better. These taste weird with jalapenos. Not for me.

  77. User avatar Christine Gleason says:

    1 star
Why would u put jalapenos on fries? Seems dumb. Stick to regular fries, people.

    1. User avatar clair.dooley says:

      5 stars
Jalapenos on fries are awesome! They add a kick that regular fries just can’t match. Give it a try before judging!

    2. User avatar Skeleton says:

      2 stars
I dunno… sounds weird to me. Just keep it simple with salt and maybe some cheese. Why complicate things?

  78. User avatar kip.hudson53 says:

    5 stars
I added some bacon bits on top as well. 10/10 would eat again.

  79. User avatar eldon.kilback17 says:

    4 stars
Followed the steps exactly. I used medium potatoes and they cooked a little longer than 20+5, but still great. Next time I’ll slice thinner.

    1. User avatar bob.quitzon says:

      5 stars
Nice! I’ve had that happen too with thicker potato slices—my oven seems to need a couple extra minutes. Thin fries really are the secret. Love the cheddar + jalapeño combo!

    2. User avatar johanne.yost says:

      3 stars
20+5 is wild, mine woulda been raw at that time 😅 Maybe your oven runs hotter. I think you should bake longer first, then add jalapeno/cheese later so it doesn’t burn. Still sounds tasty though.

  80. User avatar Odell Hermiston says:

otay did not enjoy this recipe!!! too many herbs and not even good. thumbs down 👎

    1. User avatar halflife4 says:

      5 stars
I actually loved this recipe! The herbs give it a nice kick. Maybe you just don’t like spicy foods? 😅

  81. User avatar bernadette.monahan46 says:

    2 stars
Fries r nice but I want the recipe for those steak that go with it!

  82. User avatar deidre.wintheiser92 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I’m not sure the spices are balanced. The cayenne felt a bit overpowering for me, and the jalapeños weren’t mild at all (maybe mine were extra hot).

  83. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    4 stars
Can you use sweet potatoes instead? Vegan cheese also works for people with lactose issues!!

  84. User avatar sanjuanita.fritsch12 says:

These fries were amazing! The blend of spices really brought them to life! Will definitely make again.

    1. User avatar shawn.mertz says:

      2 stars
Fries? With cheddar and jalapenos? Is that even a thing? Sounds kinda weird to me.

    2. User avatar Hwi Noree says:

      5 stars
I tried this recipe too, and it was fantastic! The spices were just right. Can’t wait to make them again!

  85. User avatar jannette.fahey says:

    4 stars
Pretty tasty, but my fries weren’t as crisp as I wanted. I think my potatoes were a bit thicker. Next time I’ll slice thinner and maybe broil for a minute at the end.

    1. User avatar jacque.kunze says:

      5 stars
Yeah, broiling at the end is a great fix. If they were thicker, they usually steam instead of crisping in the oven—slicing thinner helps a lot. Did you also flip them halfway like the recipe says?

  86. 3 stars
Is cilantro really necessary? I don’t like it at all. Fries would be fine without it.

  87. 5 stars
These came out way crisp for oven fries—cheddar gets all melty and the jalapeño adds a nice kick. The spices smell amazing too.

  88. 3 stars
meh. 400°F is fine i guess. mine went soft, not fry-like. also i forgot to flip lol so maybe that’s on me? anyway 3 stars.

    1. User avatar dora.robel2015 says:

      4 stars
I think 400°F is okay, but they really need the flip + single layer. If they’re crowded they steam and get soft like you said. Next time try thinner fries and a hot-ish pan.

    2. User avatar delmer.homenick says:

      3 stars
dang i forgot to flip one time too and it was like baked potato wedges lol. also cheese on top can trap moisture. maybe bake longer before adding cheddar?

  89. User avatar Maxima Lueilwitz III says:

    5 stars
These fries are the best! Spicy and cheesy, just how I like it.

    1. User avatar charles.runolfsson2003 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! These fries are a game changer. Spicy and cheesy combo is the best!👍

    2. User avatar Prostetnic Vogon Kwaltz says:

      2 stars
I dunno, sounds like too much spice for me! Can’t handle the heat. 😅

  90. User avatar darrell.torp says:

    5 stars
These came out way better than I expected—crispy edges, melty cheddar, and the jalapeño gives a great kick. I added a little extra paprika and it was perfect.

  91. User avatar Tyrell Hagenes Jr. says:

    5 stars
Very easy and quick. I used red potatoes and they were sweeter—still worked! Also jalapeños on top instead of mixed in was smart.

  92. User avatar gilbert.ortiz1953 says:

    5 stars
    👍 Yummy!

    1. User avatar carlota.bergstrom58 says:

      5 stars
These look so good! Can’t wait to try them. 🥔🧀

  93. User avatar magdalene.monahan says:

    4 stars
I think frying them in an air fryer would be better. Anyone tried that?

  94. User avatar Effrafax of Wug says:

    5 stars
Yum! The best fries I ever had. Better than the ones at McD’s for sure!

    1. 4 stars
I gotta try this! I love fries and jalapenos. Are they really better than McD’s? 😊

  95. 4 stars
I didn’t have jalapenos but used bell peppers instead. Still tasty but not the same kick. Next time I’ll stick to the recipe!

  96. 4 stars
Great flavor, but my jalapenos were a little too aggressive 😅 I used fresh ones and they were spicy-spicy. Still ate them all though.

  97. User avatar Wonko the Sane says:

    5 stars
I made these for game night and they disappeared fast. The cilantro on top is a nice touch. Next time I might roast the jalapeños a tiny bit first for deeper flavor.

  98. User avatar ressie.ohara4 says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about baking fries with just 20+5 minutes, but the seasoning really sticks. The cheese melts nicely. Cilantro on top surprised me—in a good way.

  99. 5 stars
These fries are AMAZING! The jalapenos have just the right kick, and the cheese makes it even better. Definitely a new favorite in my house! 🌶️🧀

    1. User avatar ludivina.gusikowski says:

      5 stars
I tried this recipe and it was so good! But I thought it would be too spicy for my kids, actually they loved it too! Thanks for sharing! 😊

  100. User avatar elvira.heathcote1980 says:

    4 stars
1/2 tsp cayenne seems like a lot? I used less and it still had a nice kick. I also used pre-shredded cheddar once and it melted fine, so that’s convenient.

  101. User avatar mica.bernier60 says:

    5 stars
    Yummy!!!

  102. User avatar keitha.doyle44 says:

    4 stars
Pretty solid, but mine came out a little dry after 25 minutes total. Next time I’ll cut the fries slightly thicker or check earlier—still tasty though.

    1. User avatar shirely.hand1972 says:

      4 stars
Yeah, dry fries at 400°F can happen fast—your idea to cut them a bit thicker makes sense. I’d also check closer to the 15–18 minute mark and make sure they’re not too crowded on the pan. If you want, you can toss again with a tiny extra drizzle of olive oil after flipping.

  103. User avatar madalyn.mccullough says:

    2 stars
What a waste of potatoes. They turned out soggy! Something went wrong here…

  104. User avatar Dr. Mundo says:

    5 stars
These are the best fries ever! So cheesy and spicy. Will make again!

    1. User avatar sina.friesen28 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! These fries are a game changer! I never knew spicy and cheesy could go so well together.

  105. User avatar Charles Darwin says:

    4 stars
Wait… so you bake, flip once, then add cheese for 5 more minutes? That’s it? I’m surprised it works, but my husband actually asked for seconds.

    1. User avatar dewitt.daugherty65 says:

      5 stars
Not gonna lie, I thought it would be soggy. But my husband asked for seconds too 😅 The cheddar melts so fast at 400. Nice easy snack!

    2. User avatar zachary.mckenzie says:

      4 stars
Wait—so it’s basically roast, flip, then cheese/jalapeños for a few minutes? I’m skeptical, but the double bake makes sense. Might try it tonight.

  106. 5 stars
Made these for a party, and they were gone in minutes! So cheesy and flavorful.

    1. User avatar juan.koch says:

      5 stars
Sounds delicious! Can’t wait to try them myself. Thanks for sharing!

  107. User avatar emmett.hauck34 says:

    3 stars
I’m not sure about putting jalapeños on at the end—mine tasted kind of raw. But overall it was still good and the cilantro helped a lot.

  108. User avatar robin.wolff2026 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but 1 tsp salt felt like a lot? My potatoes were pretty salty, and I had to add a squeeze of lemon at the end to balance. Flavor was good though.

    1. User avatar avril.marks41 says:

      5 stars
Sorry about that! Different potato sizes/brands can really change how much salt comes through. Next time I’d try 1/2 tsp salt and season to taste—then you won’t need the lemon at the end. Glad the overall flavor was still good though!

  109. User avatar lucius.bergnaum39 says:

    5 stars
Wow wow WOW! I never thought I’d like jalapenos this much, but these fries are the bomb! 🔥

  110. User avatar phillip.lebsack2014 says:

    3 stars
Could use more spice. The flavor was kinda flat to me, but my kids loved them.

  111. User avatar Kid Trunks says:

    2 stars
Why do you have to heat the oven so much? Can’t we just fry them? Just sayin’.

  112. User avatar CTRLplusW says:

    3 stars
I followed the recipe, but the cheese slid off a bit and got stringy in the tray. Still good, just not pretty. Would recommend lining the baking sheet with parchment next time.

    1. User avatar stuart.klein34 says:

      4 stars
Ugh I hate when the cheese turns into a stretchy mess 😅 Parchment makes sense—also I wonder if adding the cheddar a minute later (after the fries are flipped) helps it cling better?

    2. User avatar lowell.jacobi69 says:

      2 stars
Maybe you didnt wait long enough for the fries to dry out? I made these and my cheese stayed put. Also 400F is kinda low? I do 425 and it works better lol.

  113. User avatar joe_banana says:

    5 stars
Yum!!! These are so good! The kiddos loved them! 🌶️🧀

    1. 3 stars
I dunno. Sounds a bit spicy for kids, doesn’t it? Just saying! 🌶️

    2. User avatar fredia.metz68 says:

      5 stars
Glad to hear your kids enjoyed them! They’re a hit in our house too! 😊

  114. User avatar Bernardine Boehm says:

    4 stars
Good flavor, but mine didn’t get very crispy at 400°F. I think my fries were a bit thick and I only flipped once. Still tasty though—cheese makes it worth it.

  115. User avatar Sand-Dial says:

    5 stars
Delish! The cilantro on top made them super fresh! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  116. User avatar kenna.jacobson27 says:

    1 star
Fries are too soft! I like them crispy. Oven might not be hot enough.

  117. User avatar conrad.welch says:

    4 stars
The seasoning is on point. However, my cheddar didn’t get super bubbly—think my fries were a bit crowded. Still delicious though.

    1. User avatar Augustus Kohler says:

      3 stars
I dunno, mine bubblies even when it’s kinda crowded… maybe your cheese was too dry or you used the wrong kind? Also 400°F feels low-ish? But yeah still sounds tasty 😅

    2. User avatar lucy.hoppe says:

      5 stars
Good catch! Cheddar usually gets bubblier when there’s more air around it—single layer really matters. Next time maybe use two trays or don’t overload the top with cheese. Glad it still tasted great though!

  118. User avatar buck.turner72 says:

    4 stars
This is a great snack, but 20 min + flip + 5 + cheese 5 felt a little long for my oven. I’d start checking at minute 20.

  119. User avatar Uh Shenlong says:

    4 stars
Fries good. Cheese taste nice! Me like!

  120. 3 stars
Cayenne pepper + jalapeno felt like overkill for me. The taste was good, but I’d cut the heat in half next time or use mild jalapenos.

  121. User avatar Ma'randru-jo says:

    5 stars
These fries are amazing! The spice level is just right. Definitely a new favorite in our house! 🍟❤️

  122. User avatar markita.feil says:

    2 stars
I followed the recipe but my fries turned out soggy. I think I cooked them too long. 😟

    1. User avatar david.douglas says:

      5 stars
I made these before and they came out perfect! You sure you cut them thin enough? That’s the secret!

    2. User avatar yoshie.streich67 says:

      4 stars
Soggy fries? I think maybe you didn’t use enough oil or the oven was too low. Gotta follow the temps!

  123. User avatar wellRespected says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I’m skeptical that oven fries can compete with frying. But these were decent—would make again, especially for a snack night.

  124. User avatar steven.schroeder35 says:

    5 stars
Literally the best fries I’ve ever had. Wow wow wow!

  125. User avatar perry.runolfsson41 says:

    2 stars
uhh… 20 min then 5 min then 5 min? That feels like too much flipping. Also I forgot cilantro and it tasted flat, not gonna lie.

  126. User avatar Uh Shenlong says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical at first about jalapenos on fries, but woah! This is a game-changer.

  127. User avatar rodrigo.beier13 says:

    3 stars
I thought they were too spicy! Maybe tone down the jalapenos a bit.

    1. 2 stars
Too spicy? Nah, just eat some bread after! 😅

    2. User avatar lane.hudson36 says:

      4 stars
I love spicy food, but I get it! Maybe 1 jalapeno instead of 2 could work? Just a suggestion!

  128. 2 stars
I tried this recipe, but my fries turned out too soggy. Maybe I didn’t bake them long enough? Not sure if I’ll try again.

  129. User avatar ArabianNights says:

    4 stars
Just made them, and my kids loved them! Will make again for sure. 😂

    1. 5 stars
That’s awesome! Kids always know what’s good. These fries are the best! 😍

  130. 2 stars
I had high hopes but these were just too spicy for my taste. Maybe less cayenne next time.

  131. User avatar donella.gislason says:

    4 stars
Next time I might add some bacon bits for extra flavor! YUM!

  132. User avatar Darmani III says:

    5 stars
Love love LOVE it!! Crispy and cheesy, perfect snack for movie night.

  133. User avatar madalene.stroman85 says:

    5 stars
These came out ridiculously good—crispy edges, melty cheddar, and the jalapeño flavor is perfect without being totally overpowering. I used a little extra cayenne too 😅

  134. User avatar ArabianNights says:

    2 stars
Yikes, these were too spicy for me. I used cayenne AND jalapeños, so yeah… Lesson learned. If you like heat, though, you’ll love it.

  135. User avatar margery.crooks56 says:

    2 stars
I burnt the paprika a bit (oops) but the cheese saved it. Way too spicy for my taste even with less jalapeño. Would make again, but not for guests.

    1. 4 stars
Oof but at least the cheese rescued it 😅 If it’s too spicy, I’d try rinsing the jalapeños or using much less (or even de-seeding). Guests might not like the heat, I totally get it.

    2. User avatar tonda.feeney56 says:

      3 stars
Way too spicy is real, and burnt paprika definitely doesn’t help. Next time maybe skip the cayenne? Also, do you bake the jalapeños longer or just until the cheese melts? I’m confused lol.

  136. User avatar margit.cruickshank53 says:

    3 stars
I tried making these, but the fries turned out soggy. Maybe I need to cook them longer next time?

    1. User avatar scotty.ankunding1956 says:

      4 stars
Yeah, soggy fries can be a drag! Try cutting them into thinner pieces next time or leaving them in for a bit longer like you said. A little extra patience goes a long way!

    2. User avatar Phil A. Delphia says:

      3 stars
U should let em cook longer or maybe turn up the heat a bit! Soggy fries r the worst, no joke! Good luck!

  137. User avatar leesa.homenick50 says:

    1 star
Why do people put jalapenos on fries? Just eat the fries and leave the peppers out.

  138. User avatar Shaddam Corrino IV says:

    3 stars
Not bad… but too spicy for me. Also I accidentally used smoked paprika once and it tasted kinda weird. Still, the flavors were balanced once I toned down the cayenne.

    1. User avatar caitlin.wiza47 says:

      5 stars
Totally get that—jalapeños + cayenne can be *a lot*. I usually cut the cayenne in half (or skip it) and add a little extra paprika for the color/flavor. Also smoked paprika is definitely a different vibe, so that “weird” taste checks out. Glad you got it balanced though!

  139. 2 stars
A friend made them and I tried them, they was good! But too spicy for me. LOL!

  140. User avatar hank.huels1957 says:

    5 stars
So easy and sooo good 😋. I used red jalapeños (bc thats what i had) and it was still amazing. 10/10 quick side!

    1. User avatar beth.pouros2013 says:

      5 stars
Red jalapeños sound like a fun twist—glad they still worked out! 😄 The cheddar + jalapeño combo is dangerous (in a good way).

  141. User avatar Tyrell Hill says:

    3 stars
Kinda bland for me until I added extra salt and more paprika. The cheese helps, but I’d bump the seasoning next time.

  142. User avatar Spider Soldier says:

    5 stars
OMG! Just made it and wow! I felt like I was on a food network show!

  143. 3 stars
Not sure about baking fries with no soaking or parboil—mine were a little soft. Flavor is great, but next time I’ll try drying the potato slices more.

  144. 5 stars
These came out super crispy for oven fries! The jalapeno + cheddar combo is such a good late-snack vibe. I added a pinch more salt at the end and it was perfect.

    1. User avatar zachariah.dietrich says:

      5 stars
Yes!! Crispy oven fries are the best, and that jalapeno-cheddar combo sounds addicting 😄 Pinch of salt at the end is such a pro move.

  145. User avatar rocco.erdman says:

    5 stars
These are amazing! I love the kick from the jalapenos.

    1. User avatar joe_banana says:

      3 stars
I don’t really like spicy food. How much kick do they really have?

  146. 4 stars
Pretty tasty! Next time I’ll cut the fries even thinner because some pieces weren’t as crispy. Still, the cheese/jalapeño combo is legit.

  147. User avatar garland.spinka says:

    2 stars
Fries was eh. I’ll stick with ketchup, thank you very much.

  148. User avatar davis.king98 says:

    5 stars
These were dangerously good. The jalapeños on top + cheddar melt is such a combo. I also baked on parchment so nothing stuck—highly recommend.

  149. 5 stars
These fries are amazing!! Perfect for movie night. Me and the fam loved it. 🙂

  150. User avatar devin.kilback58 says:

    2 stars
I don’t know… I tried this and it was kinda boring. Like, the spices were there but the fries were soft. Maybe I’m doing something wrong, idk.

  151. User avatar bella.durgan says:

    4 stars
I was nervous about the jalapeños on top, but the cheese kind of tames them. Nice spice level—would make again for game night.

  152. 4 stars
I followed it pretty closely but my fries weren’t super crisp until I spread them more evenly. Still tasty and the cheese/jalapeño combo is legit.

  153. 4 stars
Why do we need cilantro? It tastes like soap… I left it out and still was good!

    1. User avatar lizzzard says:

      4 stars
I totally agree! Cilantro can be hit or miss. I also skip it and they’re still delish!

    2. User avatar viki.willms3 says:

      3 stars
But cilantro adds a fresh flavor! Just becuz u don’t like it doesn’t mean others won’t. Try it next time!

  154. User avatar Gag Halfrunt says:

    2 stars
They look good but I dont like jalapenos. Any other ideas for toppings?

  155. User avatar osvaldo.hand says:

    5 stars
Made these last night—crispy edges, and the cheddar + jalapeño combo is seriously addictive. Followed the times exactly and they came out perfect.

  156. 5 stars
These were a hit! Crispy edges, and the jalapeño + cheddar combo is dangerously good. I used a little extra cayenne and it kicked up the flavor even more—will make again.

  157. 2 stars
Not my thing. The heat was too much and they went soggy.

  158. User avatar sheridan.schoen4 says:

    4 stars
Hot! I thought 1/2 tsp cayenne wouldn’t matter but the jalapeno plus spices really packs a punch. Still delicious though.

  159. 3 stars
My cheese didn’t get super bubbly, more like it just softened. Probably my oven runs cool. Flavor was good though—spices are on point.

  160. User avatar eli.homenick2015 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good but I think my fries needed longer than 25 minutes total. Also, I used extra jalapeño because spicy is life. Still tasty though.

  161. User avatar phillip.sanford97 says:

    4 stars
My oven runs hot, so I had to cut the time down a few minutes or the edges got too brown. Still, the cheese + jalapeño was so good. I’d definitely make again with timing adjustments.

    1. User avatar Annie Howe says:

      5 stars
Good tip about adjusting for a hot oven! I’ve had the same thing happen with fries—edges go from crispy to burnt way too fast. I’ll try cutting the bake time slightly next round. Cheese + jalapeño really is the winning combo.

  162. User avatar Marvin Rohan says:

    2 stars
Okay but cilantro on fries is weird lol. I swapped it for green onion and it tasted way better. Still a solid recipe.

  163. 3 stars
I’m not sure about baking time—20 min then flip, then 5 then cheese for 5… my fries were a little soft. Maybe my oven runs cool.

    1. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

      5 stars
Yeah, that timing can definitely make them go soft—20 + 5 + 5 is pretty close, but if your oven runs cool (or the fries aren’t thin/one layer), you’ll lose the crisp. I’d try a full 400°F preheat with the sheet in the oven first (so it’s hot), spread them really evenly, and bake 5–10 min longer total after flipping. Also, don’t pile the jalapeños/cheese on too heavy right away or the moisture can soften them.

  164. 5 stars
These turned out super crispy for oven fries! The jalapeño + cheddar combo is dangerously good. I used a little extra cayenne and loved it.

    1. User avatar basementDweller says:

      5 stars
Yesss jalapeño + cheddar really does slap 🔥 I’m glad they got super crispy—what thickness did you cut your fries?

  165. User avatar abbie.trantow says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, 1 tsp salt seems like a lot for only 4 medium potatoes, but it was balanced with the cheddar. Next time I’ll use a bit less cayenne.

  166. User avatar Frostbite Spider says:

    5 stars
These came out super crispy for oven fries—love the kick from the cayenne and jalapeno. Cheddar on top at the end was the perfect move.

  167. 4 stars
Kinda spicy but I like that. I also added a squeeze of lime at the end and it made the cilantro pop. Would make again.

    1. User avatar leticia.yundt77 says:

      5 stars
Love the lime idea—makes sense with the cilantro. I’ll try that next time. Glad you’d make them again!

  168. 3 stars
I did everything exactly and the fries kinda got soft instead of crispy. Maybe my potatoes were too watery or I didn’t dry them enough. Flavor was still good.

  169. User avatar domenica.brakus37 says:

    5 stars
Cilantro on fries? I was skeptical, but it actually brightened everything. Would make again for sure.

  170. User avatar derrick.schmitt says:

    3 stars
I’m skeptical about baking fries without soaking or frying, but these surprised me. Not perfect like fast food, but better than expected.
