This classic apple pie recipe is passed down from my grandma. It’s the perfect blend of sweet and tart apples in a flaky, buttery crust.

Ingredients

  • 6 large apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar adjust to taste
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice fresh
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter cut into small pieces
  • 2 pie crusts homemade or store-bought

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, and lemon juice. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
  • Roll out the first pie crust and fit it into the bottom of a 9-inch pie dish. Fill with the apple mixture, mounding slightly in the center.
  • Dot the top of the apples with butter. Roll out the second crust and place over the apples. Trim and flute the edges to seal.
  • Cut slits or a decorative pattern in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 45 minutes or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbly.
  • Allow the pie to cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before serving to let the filling set.
