A traditional simple Irish Soda Bread made without yeast, using baking soda as the leavening agent. It has a crusty exterior with a dense and slightly crumbly interior. Perfect with butter or jam.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda make sure it's fresh
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 and 3/4 cups buttermilk shake before measuring

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Lightly grease and flour a cake pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead briefly, just enough to form a round loaf.
  • Transfer the dough to the prepared pan. Score a deep cross on top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the bottom of the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
  • Cool on a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.
