Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Lightly grease and flour a cake pan.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Stir until a soft dough forms.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead briefly, just enough to form a round loaf.
Transfer the dough to the prepared pan. Score a deep cross on top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the bottom of the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
Cool on a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.
