Honey-Drenched Baklava
The crown jewel of Greek desserts: dozens of paper-thin phyllo layers packed with cinnamon-spiced walnuts and drenched in fragrant honey syrup.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 package phyllo dough thawed
  • 4 cups walnuts finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup butter melted
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and mix the walnuts with ground cinnamon.
  • Brush a pan with butter and layer in about 8 buttered phyllo sheets.
  • Sprinkle a layer of the nut mixture, then add 3-4 more buttered sheets, repeating until the nuts are used up.
  • Finish with 8 buttered phyllo sheets on top.
  • Cut into diamonds and bake 45 minutes until deep golden.
  • Simmer sugar, water, honey, lemon juice, and cinnamon stick into a syrup, then pour it over the hot baklava and let it soak completely.
