A Southern classic, Fried Okra is crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and full of flavor. Perfect as a side dish or snack.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups okra cut into 1/2 inch slices
  • 1 cup cornmeal finely ground
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup vegetable oil for frying

Instructions
 

  • In a medium bowl, soak the okra slices in buttermilk for 5 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, salt, and black pepper.
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Dredge the okra slices in the cornmeal mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated.
  • Fry the okra in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  • Remove the fried okra with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  • Serve hot and enjoy!
