In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
In another bowl, beat the egg, then whisk in the milk and melted butter.
Gently mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined.
Fold in the chocolate chips.
Heat a griddle or skillet over medium heat, lightly greased with butter or non-stick spray.
Pour about 1/4 cup of batter for each pancake onto the griddle.
Cook until bubbles form on the surface, then flip and cook until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
Serve warm, topped with additional chocolate chips or syrup if desired.
