Granny Smith apples work well for their tartness.

caramel candies
about 11 ounces

tablespoons
milk
or cream for a richer taste

chopped nuts

Instructions
Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Insert a wooden stick into the core of each apple.
In a saucepan over low heat, melt the caramel candies with milk, stirring frequently until smooth.
Dip each apple into the caramel, turning to coat completely. Allow excess to drip off.
If desired, roll the freshly dipped apples in chopped nuts or other toppings.
Place the apples on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to set.
