Instructions
Boil the peeled and cubed potatoes in a large pot of salted water until tender, about 15 minutes.
Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add warm milk, softened butter, salt, and black pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.
In a separate saucepan, melt remaining butter over medium heat. Stir in flour to form a roux, cooking for about 1 minute.
Gradually whisk in chicken broth and water, stirring until the gravy thickens, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve the mashed potatoes topped with the thickened gravy.
