Ingredients

  • 12 oz fresh cranberries rinsed
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice about 1 orange
  • 1 tsp orange zest grated
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the water, granulated sugar, and orange juice. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar.
  • Add the fresh cranberries, orange zest, cinnamon, and cloves to the saucepan. Return to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer.
  • Cook uncovered for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens to your liking.
  • Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature; the sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
  • Transfer to a bowl, cover, and refrigerate until ready to serve. Serve chilled or at room temperature alongside your Thanksgiving meal.

Notes

Adjust the sugar and spices to taste depending on how tart you like your cranberry sauce. For a smoother texture, you can mash the cranberries slightly or blend the sauce after cooking.
