Coca Cola Has Recalled Nearly 900 Cases Of Soda

May 7, 2025

Before reaching for your next can of Coca-Cola, take note of a recent recall. The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a voluntary recall of certain Coca-Cola Original Taste cans due to the potential presence of plastic contamination.

Initially issued earlier this month, the recall has now been classified as Class II, which the FDA defines as a situation where exposure “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious harm is remote.”

A total of 864 cases, packaged in 12-count packs of 12 oz. cans, were distributed in Illinois and Wisconsin by Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling, LLC in Milwaukee. No other states are currently affected. Consumers can find the list of impacted UPC codes on the FDA’s official website.

In a statement to USA TODAY, a company spokesperson confirmed:

“Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling is voluntarily recalling 864 cases of 12-pack Coca-Cola Classic in 12-oz cans in Illinois and Wisconsin. The cases are being withdrawn because they did not meet our high-quality standards. We are taking this voluntary action because nothing is more important to us than providing high-quality products to the people who drink our beverages.”

The FDA has not issued specific guidance, but as with all recalls involving potential contamination, consumers are advised not to consume the product and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

This recall follows similar recent actions, including a recall of Stouffer’s and Lean Cuisine frozen meals due to possible contamination with wood-like material.
